Interesting new mat. One thing to keep in mind (as is well managed on Big Clive’s channel) when the background is bright then the camera accommodates this and darkens the image making it harder for us to see what you are doing. I’m sure you’ll spot it 😀👍
While mat color does not affect whether or not I would watch in the long run, the blue mat is much better to me. It does tend to be a bit much for my eyes and for me the screws and parts you remove show up a bit better on the slightly darker blue mat. If you are looking for a change, green is my favorite color and I think a similar tone to the blue mat or slightly darker would function just as well.

Thank you for the cautionary tale of not buying anything from Sonos. When someone buys any product, they expect it to work regardless of it's age. Changing the software/firmware so it can no longer function, despite the hardware being perfectly fine, and expecting people to spend more to get the same thing, is fraudulent in intent, if not actually fraudulent.
Yeah, what a garbage, anti-consumer practice. It's not like I'd expect old hardware to gain new features indefinitely, but at the very least - the core functions should work for the life of the hardware. Trash.
A couple of years back, I had a cheap Samsung TV. The model couldn’t update firmware over the internet, but one day (after the warranty was expired) I turned on the TV and in the upper right corner on the screen, a little message popped up where there stood“updating firmware” - the day after, when I tried to turn the tv on, it constantly kept switching on and off and the only way to turn it off, was by unplugging the tv from the socket. I tried to plug it in again, but the same “death switching” continued. I tried to reset the tv but nothing worked - it was dead!
Great Video Vince. That switch in the thermometer definitely looked corroded. The component looks like a tilt switch, and you are correct, they do have a ball bearing in them. That watch is a pretty bad fake, though I guess it's easy for me to say that as I see the real deal at work on a regular basis. There's lots wrong with it which can be summed up by "poor quality" and "incorrect"! The clasp is completely wrong by the way - Omega don't use that style of clasp, so well noted! The movement is a Chinese automatic, I think it's a calibre DG 2813 or similar. When you're attaching a new crown, hold the stem in a pin vice and apply a tiny amount of loctite threadlocker 243 to the end, then screw the new crown on (assuming the stem is the correct length of course). Obviously it doesn't matter in this instance, but if you ever need to remove a crown and someone's superglued it on, it's a little annoying! 😂 Great video as ever Vince. Cheers!
Cool fixes :) The yellow mat might give better contrast in small items, but the blue mat is the traditional one. Recently unfortunately decided to throw to e-waste my old mini videocameras, like the 808 keyring cam, and USB memory stick videocamera. They were about 10 years old, and at least in two of them, the Lithium Polymer batteries had expanded, which means they're bad and in unstable condition. Noticed one camera back plate had clear bump there, which indicates that the battery had expanded. The 808 keyring camera was initially seemingly ok, tried to charge the battery after being unused for years, and during the charging, it expanded so much, that it forced the case open, even it's held together with two screws at the back. I've read that LiPo batteries might be fire hazzard if they go puffy like that. Can't take that kind of risk, so sent them all to electronics recycling. Lithium Polymer battery fires seems to be difficult to put out, it can burn even without oxygen. Quickly looked that new replacement LiPo batteries are more expensive than the whole camera was, and not sure if the specs were correct, not to mention the size. These mini videocameras were fun toys, inspired to buy them from Techmoan's review videos back then. One swollen LR44 battery has already exploded on me, so I can imagine the bigger LiPo battery might do bigger damage if it explodes or starts a fire.
Great fix. Although a fake the movement in that watch is still interesting. Not the typical quartz tick tick second hand but a smoother moving one. Is it kinetic too? Have you tested it for accuracy. If it's accurate probably doesn't matter it's a fake. Sonus amazed me. Not tried a different mains lead I guess, first thing I'd check. Also ridiculously complicated to get it paired. Other 2 were good fixes. The speaker with lamp possibly dropped to cause the crack?
Thanks Paul. That watch has an automatic movement, so your arm/wrist movements spin the big rotor around which in turn winds up the watch. The second hand probably ticks at 8 times a second, so it looks smooth, but it is actually ticking 👍👍👍

The thermometer gravity switch reminds me of an idea I had a few years ago for keyless vehicle security, after watching a video clip on TV showing car thieves using a radio relay device to get the car key to transmit so they could steal the car gave me the idea. Essentially, when a key is left down it will power off and not respond to an unlock request, simply moving the key like you would if you were going about your business would keep the logic chip vcc pin powered and then the power off process would repeat keeping the vehicle where you left it.

@1:26 - Of course...I got the blue mat because of you. Now, 2 years on, I have to have a yellow one. My birthday is coming soon though. I've added it to my list.
Very inspirational to see how many repairs you are able to fix without big investments in parts. So inspirational that I bought a blue mat myself two weeks ago. Only to see you changed yours...lol. Guess I have to order some yellow spraypaint... :p
@@Mymatevince Haha, great. Anyway, snow is soon covering Norway, so I can use the spray to promote your channel in the snow without spilling any own fluids! :p
Now I remember why I never considered to buy a Sonos product, they partially gave in their planned obsolescence after a lot of backlash but still things like they want you to buy new devices when their old ones work absolutely fine and also the lack of DTS on their soundbars (ok, I see they finally added it 11 months ago but refused for almost 10(?) years). Of course these are non-software-driven but I got a pair of Canton Fonum speakers from the mid-80s and they work absolutely fine, same with a Elac PC910 turntable from 1979/1980 and a Grundig CD7500 from '83 I bought it faulty and got it repaired (laser got adjusted, recapped and the transformer was soldered from 220 to 240V - mains voltage was 220V in most european countries and 240V in the UK before 1987 and then all changed to 230V and the power supply seems to work better with less heat on the 240V setting) I doubt that many Sonos devices will last that long. And of course also their speaker technology may advance but would it be bad to offer at least upgrade logic board kits with newer SoC etc. so that you get some new features but save the environment by replacing just a board and not the whole unit.
I spit out my drink laughing at 18:00..."Okay, I've lost the will to live on this....." I use the phrase "I've lost the will to live" when I run across something infuriatingly irritating like this! Ha ha ha!
blue! I tend to watch your videos late at nights in bed, so the yellow has left a burny impression on my eyes now. Although it definitely does not discourage me from continuing to watch your videos. So roll with what you like and prefer!!! :3
I actually have this Omega Pierce Brosnan Die Another Day watch. Pawn Shop buy at $800. The bracelet is completely different with 2 tiny round press buttons and full logo with 007 centered properly. The movement is an ETA 1120 as printed in gold on the automatic wind flywheel. High quality 21 jewel movement. My Time Grapher shows it at +4 secs per day at 28,800 BPH. Crown tube should be a screw down seal to provide the 300 meter depth protection. You could adapt the case to original by replacing the crown tubes and finding a 1120 or 2892 caliber movement from Cousins or EBay.
Regarding the sonos speaker, you needed to set it up using sonos s1 app, it is the gen 1 speaker, I have 2 of them and they still kick. I went through the same stuff as you but using the s1 software was the fix. Sonos says this somewhere on thier site. Just some info for ya Vince. The your channel.
I don't know, the yellow mat kinda started growing on me by the end of the vid. I watch youtube on a 50" TV, so the mat didn't appear too bright, but it also appeared you may have adjusted the gamma to tone down the brightness. I do like the contrast the mat offers, as all the items you have on the mat stand out better. All in all, I like the change. Looking forward to more car repair vids. Loving that series.
Careful Vince, you might get a copyright strike from yourself. It's a really mad world we live in so anything goes. Omega watches have 7-8 digit number on the back somewhere, you can then check this online to see if it is Authentic, IF it has a number that is, no number? then a fake. Also, that switch you did at the beginning? the internals are just like mouse switches inside. The metal spring bit can be taken off and this helps cleaning though can be a bit fiddly. Becareful though as they can easilyt bend. As with the Corsair M65 mouse buttons which have been known to send a double click signal when you click once, they can be come tarnished, like a brownish colour, which means cleaning, I have had this with my one. Tip with any copper on circuit boards etc and these, use a soft rubber/eraser to clean them, just like on some HDDs, take the circuit board off and you will see on some they have around 20 pads in 2 rows and if they become brownish then this can stop the drive working properly so run over with a soft eraser/rubber to clean them and this can sort out the signals again and make the HDDs work again, not always but most cases for me, this has been the issue. Works on many tarnished copper pads at times and a good place to start. Just a tip. By the way, this is how I sorted my mouse out, no replacement switch or desoldering/soldering needed.
Oh mate, you are on the ROLL! IMO, the speaker got torn because it was dropped and may be had some pre-existing condition there. Regarding the yellow matt - it does have a bit of eye strain effect.
Hi Vince, I'm sure you know this but testing a battery with a volt meter gives false readings. Let me explain. A volt meter has an internal resistance of10 megohms, (industry standard for the most part). This is done so that when measuring a circuit, the meter doesn't pull an excessive amount of current and load down the circuit. The standard is so you can use any meter and the voltage readings will match the schematics. So if you measure a circuit at 5 volts and the meter has an internal resistance of 10 M, the current is 5/10e6 or 500 pico amps. This has zero effect on the circuit. Using that same principle measuring a battery, 3/10e6 is 300pico amps. By design, a 3v coin cell standard discharge current is 210 microamps. Far above the 500 pico the meter draws. In essence, without putting the battery under a load for testing, the voltage reading isn't valid. There are meters that have a battery test mode that will place a load on the battery. The yellow mat is fun. I like it..... "the only constant is change" - Heraclitus
@@bazahaza Without a load, a severely weakened battery can actually read the correct voltage. The issue is that the battery can no longer provide the current and goes into current limit. When this happens, the voltage drops below the rated output. The next time your car battery can't start your car, go measure it with a meter and record the voltage, about 10.5 to 12v usually. Leave the leads on the battery terminals and start the car and measure the voltage when the key is in the start position. It will be far below the 12V as rated on the battery, probably less than 9v....
I wasn't expecting the gravity sensor to flip the display. I wonder if it has a dual purpose as the device has an auto off feature, so if its not being moved and is just stationary, the sensor isn't moving so after a while shuts off
SONAS, hope they got fined for doing that. Great fixes Vince. Think I saw you (or your double) on the TV down in London with the procession a few days ago
Yup. Don't know if they got fined, but a lot of Tech-sites and RUclipsrs ripped into them for it. As far as I know they lost most of their customers from it. And, well, I don't see any commercials about their products any more, so they probably killed their company by being greedy bastards.
@@DEmma1972 Indeed. That fact is a perpetual headscratcher for me too... Probably because they grew up with them and/or use them as fashion accessories.
@@The_Keeper I think it is a dependency issue. People bought apps and music and even films from APPLE that can only be used with APPLE accounts on APPLE products. Maybe they have $2-3000 invested in APPLE stuff and cant see past the fact that they are throwing good money after bad and feel they have to continue the cycle rather than start again.

(Really, I don't feel strongly one way or the other, but I felt like yellow mat needed some support.)
Hahaha, it's good to support the underdog 😂👌
Great selection of things to fault find and fix
Hello Vince.
Greetings from the big city of Goose Creek, South Carolina! Stumbled on your site a few months back and really enjoy it. If you ever decide to publish a book on basic electronic and electrical repairs, let us know. I would definitely be in line to order one! 🙂👍
You caught a ghost messing with your screw driver at 17:38
Going through some of your older videos i haven't watched, i got you to 3k likes on this video
I watched the whole video on edge that something was going to go BANG!
Regarding the thermostat, the solder on the microswitch didn't look factory as there was more solder on the one side as if it's already been replaced prior to opening
Some of us are trying to fall asleep to the soothing sound of your voice Vince! No need for a bright yellow thing on the screen! :D
No blue mat?! Where am I? Hello yellow mat, welcome to the first of many fixes!
@1:26 - Of course...I got the blue mat because of you. Now, 2 years on, I have to have a yellow one. My birthday is coming soon though. I've added it to my list.
That yellow mat is hard on the eyes!
Very inspirational to see how many repairs you are able to fix without big investments in parts. So inspirational that I bought a blue mat myself two weeks ago. Only to see you changed yours...lol. Guess I have to order some yellow spraypaint... :p
Hahaha, hold fire on that spray paint. I think I may have to go back to the blue mat due to the 'yellow mat hate' in the comments section 😂😂
@@Mymatevince Haha, great. Anyway, snow is soon covering Norway, so I can use the spray to promote your channel in the snow without spilling any own fluids! :p
😂🤣
It always sounds like you guys are doing dishes in the background lol.
To be HONEST I didn’t even notice after 3 minutes about the yellow and it’s nice to see something different 😂
I would have just plugged the phone into the aux socket on the back just so we could hear it work lol.
Nice one 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Ha ha ha!
Svaka cast brate samo tako nastavi, veliki pozdrav iz Srbije Respesct
blue! I tend to watch your videos late at nights in bed, so the yellow has left a burny impression on my eyes now. Although it definitely does not discourage me from continuing to watch your videos. So roll with what you like and prefer!!! :3
I had no idea you had a second channel.
Time to bing watch all the videos!
Agreed, no need to throw many things away.
👍👍👍
Surprisingly after watching the video some more, I'm digging the yellow.
Bring back the blue mat....yellow wrecks my eyes😲😲
I prefer the Blue Mat with all its repair scars :)
Why did you stop using the blue mat? Any reason or just fancied a change?
who wants their electronics tethered to an app? nice fixes, and that flame speaker is cool.
Good job mate 👍
Loving that series.
a barbeque outside, now there's a novelty 😁
Hahaha, yeah I can now see why the yellow mat has gone down so badly. I discuss it in Part 24 of the Rolls 😂👍 Cheers Marcel
I actually like the yellow mat quite a lot
those generator watches are great, no need to replace any battery
How much out in volts are you talking? Most people don't need to be that accurate anyway.
I have a yellow mat. The contrast on parts is fantastic, but it does look a little bright on a screen.
We done Vince very enjoyable 😎👍
As you let's take over to I said the blue mat, and you said yellow, I was like, it's a change!
I wasn't expecting the gravity sensor to flip the display. I wonder if it has a dual purpose as the device has an auto off feature, so if its not being moved and is just stationary, the sensor isn't moving so after a while shuts off
Fantastic, really enjoy your videos 👍😀
I like the yellow mat!
@@The_Keeper Yet people still love APPLE
@@DEmma1972 Indeed.
That fact is a perpetual headscratcher for me too...
Probably because they grew up with them and/or use them as fashion accessories.
@@The_Keeper I think it is a dependency issue. People bought apps and music and even films from APPLE that can only be used with APPLE accounts on APPLE products. Maybe they have $2-3000 invested in APPLE stuff and cant see past the fact that they are throwing good money after bad and feel they have to continue the cycle rather than start again.
Thanks. Must have been a double Emma 👌👍
I knew it wasn't the power switch as you were able to power it down and back on - minus the main light)before you took it apart lol
I recognized the micro switch right away from doing mouse repairs. I never would have thought that a meat thermometer would have a switch nearly identical to mouse buttons.
..... MI6 budget restraints explains the watch.
I had an image of the Bond villain laughing at it.
nice new mat.....who needs retinas anyway??🤣😂🤣
White balance is off for this yellow, so it looks like light green and everything else looks blue around. Maybe blue pad is better anyway!? The bottom side of the switch is the same as switches in mouses, take one from a broken mouse.
This is more like 👍 “Highlighter Yellow”, not actually true yellow. It doesn’t bother my eyes 👀, but the blue mat would be softer on the eyes 👀. Your friend, Jeff.
Lovely fixes =D Great success rate!
Thanks Chris 👌😎
Another vince video this will be good
Perhaps offer the yellow mat as a prize in a competition you could run.
I was really confused what watch it was as I've never heard the name, but that was only british pronunciation 🤣
PS: Love the yellow mat 👍
Honestly I’m a fan of the yellow mat but I can see why people might not like it. Maybe go halfway and get a green one? Hahah
That yellow is burning my EYES!!!!!
How am i gonna watch ur videos to fall asleep, and be BLINDED!!!!!!!!!
Nice video. Very satisfying
Vince mate. Sorry bud that Omega.... you can tell just from the dial and bezel. Hands are totally wrong. I very Chinesium movement inside. Fun to see but it needs destroying! you should do a video on it mate. Mark at Watch repair channel did a destruction video on a Rolex think he cut it in half with an angle grinder. One of his most ever viewed videos!
Yeah, I seen that video. The thumbnail he done was a winner. The most obvious thing I missed on this one was the lack of a screw down crown. I have a real interesting Omega coming up...The Beta21. Cheers Mike 👍👌
For the Sonos, this is an "old" play:5 so it requires the S1 Sonos app, also, I don't think it has bluetooth.
that yellow mat gives my Chameleon Gastroenteritis.
now that i think about it...
the yellow mat was also a honest fault since it was too bright for me lol
