I love how the fight against wumbo feels like a true final boss with phases where he's vulnerable and invulnerable. A technically fair but barely surmountable fight only if you know how to time your battle strategies.
Games like these make me realize I'll never be able to wrap my head around PvP Tetris and Puyo. All sorts of openers needing memorizing, the Puyo part just making my brain melt. At least I can watch others play, that's like fun as well
Yeah, I can do the stair technique In puyo puyo but any other methods make me feel like I'm trying to do advanced calculus. To me at least, Tetris is the simpler one out of the two.
I wouldn't go that far. Like it or not Wumbo is a big reason why a lot of us got into the game in the first place, myself included. I've talked to him a couple of times and he's mostly pretty chill, even if he doesn't talk much. You're allowed to have your own opinion on the guy and his content and gameplay. If he wants to focus on winning by using a pretty over centralizing strategy, he can, but you don't have to respect it. I just don't want any hate to be sent his way, that's all. That said, I do wish he would vary up his content a bit on both YT and his streams. IMO there's a lot of unused potential for Tetris content for a Tetris player of his Calibre.
@@SchoellScrub I remember when he used to do those challenges for Tetris 99 when someone donated on his stream. I haven’t looked through his channel in a while but whenever I get a video recommendation they always seem to be just “Wumbo vs other top player” which can be cool but honestly they all seem like the same to me, 2 people playing ungoldly fast and you can’t follow them so you’re just waiting for someone to misdrop and the games over (if you’re observant you might be able to catch the misdrop on your first watch)
this is the first video i've ever seen on this game, and one thing i loved about this are the characters seemingly chanting spells as you get combos and stuff

It's so much fun to see where these players shine. Wumbo especially, is in almost total control of the Tetris boards, but is merely following the instructions when he's on Puyo, which slows him tremendously.
I've only just seen your content for the first time with this video, but this is absolutely beautiful. I've only ever played the game casually when I'm wanting to kill some time, so I never had the interest to really learn about the ins and outs of it. But the simple explanations really help me!
It's nice to see you still be The Swap Guy for so long, you're incredible at the game. I was only really good at Puyo (For a solid while I was top in my state, Connecticut,) so seeing you being good at both Tetris and Puyo is pretty good motivation, as I've dialed back from playing to work on translating Madou Monogatari games and working on the Puyo Nexus. Haha! Thank you thank you! Just in case if you don't have these games yet, Puyo Puyo Champions and Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 has some color-blindness accessibility options for the Puyos in case you wanted to get into it!
I dont know shit about competitive Puyo Tetris but some how my instinct is helping me process what's going on, no small part in thanks to the additions of your explanations lol good shit glad to see this game going strong. i just wish i could see more puyo vs tetris content lmao
Some choice music selections for this video I must say. A Hat in Time is a staple and always welcome, Freedom Planet is a nice surprise but a Doom MIDI, even one from a popular WAD like Ancient Aliens is a whole other level of "Didn't expect to hear this as video background music". Oh yeah the video itself is very good too.
Wow! I really enjoyed this video. Upon clicking on it I thought that it would just be some swap matches with commentary, but it ended up teaching me a lot of things about swap. Thanks, schoell !
Man, this video is wonderful. I don't even play puyo puyo tetris often, and you managed to make watching it entertaining and best of all, fun! Concepts being explained, tips being given and how each player open their match being clearly shown is greatly appreciated and helps a lot to understand what happens. I'm subscribing!
Very nicely made, Schoell! The only criticism I have is the bios and text go by a little bit too quickly for how much words are on them. even if you're a speed reader like me you can't really get all of it without pausing and going back. maybe try to make them last a little bit longer? Great video all around though, looking forward to the next one ❤
Thank you thank you and the criticism is always appreciated! I do think it is something I could have done better here. My explanations were probably a bit too obtuse here, which could have helped a lot. My dilemma with the edits here is that I didn’t want to break the pace of the actual match often to convey the information and I didn’t want the text boxes to get in the way of important moments of gameplay. If I ever do another video of this style trying to be mostly focussed on Gameplay but also trying to be informative, maybe I’ll switch the way how I edit things here. Maybe using less zoom ins and cutting the focus away from some moments to allow for more time, or I could infrequently use the pause thing I did near the end to thoroughly explain things further (though not too much that it becomes annoying). I dunno just thinking out loud here for now.
I, personally, really liked this format. I really appreciated the pace of the video being kept- made the whole thing feel more engaging. I didn't mind having to pause to read some of the longer text boxes as a tradeoff.
I think the criticism is still valid here! After watching this back for like the 15th time there are a couple of instances where I think a text box fades out too fast unnecessarily, but that also said I did want to keep the pace consistent. Nothing more annoying to a viewer to have that pace broken to make the RUclipsr babysit them for the sake of runtime when part of the appeal of high level gameplay (or at least that’s what my viewers have been calling it here) is the flow and pace of the match which is something I wanted to keep here. The only time I broke this was at the end, partially since there was a lot to point out… but mostly so the end of the music track would play out because I thought it synced up well! I do want to stick to my style of editing, so I won’t be adapting every bit of feedback that I do get for my next projects, but they’ll always be considered especially if it does fit in to that style. I want to improve at this.
1. And when a big chain/combo goes off, I'll naturally focus on that anyway, no zoom needed
Thank you for the feedback and deepest apologies about the nausea. The most of the feedback I’ve gotten surrounding the zoom ins have been mostly positive, but I don’t want it to be nauseating to anyone. I can see a lot of the zooms are fairly sudden and fast, maybe I could reduce the frequency of them and slow the animation down a little bit? Just thinking out loud here. Not quite sure just yet but something to consider. Thanks anyhow!
