Omg thank you so much for the shoutout....... I remember going back and forth with most puzzles, thinking they were either too easy, and ended up falling into the common puzzle design trap where i focused on making them hard rather than fun lol (and it seems i messed up the description text on some too) Whoops.
the sacrifices a puyo player makes is unmatched. we avoid touching grass, dont eat or drink and dont even sleep just so we can say "i unlocked difficult puzzles!" just to repeat the cycle to beat all the difficult puzzles for no reward but a sense of accomplishment and rickets. i am now going to attempt the pain of beating all the lessons. thank you for informing me of this schoell, love ya ❤️
The doctor said insurance cannot pay for putting me to sleep for life saving surgery. I was scarred until I got a idea. I open the problems mode and before I knew it the surgery was complete.
This puzzle format HAS been explored before! It was near the beginning of the Puyo series, Still in the Compile era, called Nazo Puyo! Its the difficult problems, all in one game, officially! Edit: Changed Minna de Puyo Puyo to Nazo Puyo
Thank you actually! I haven’t yet played Puyo Pop/Minna de Puyo Puyo aside from quickly glancing at the wiki article and I honestly had no idea. I should take a look at it sometime as one of the only localised Puyo games pre-PPT. Thanks for putting in on my radar!
@@SchoellScrub Yeah there's the Nazo Puyo game series, which has this exact thing going on. Nazo Puyo games on the PC-98, Nazo Puyo on the Game Gear, and then Super Nazo Puyo and Super Nazo Puyo Tsu on Super Famicom. I don't think any of them have been localized, but you can mostly guess what the puzzles want you to do by looking at the context of the mission box. Like if it shows you a red puyo icon with a bunch of japanese text, it's probably telling you to clear all the Red Puyos. Specific chain, Puyo, or colour clear counts usually have a number in there to let you know you have a target number. The Windows 95 and PS2 versions of Puyo Puyo Tsu also have a mission mode. Also all the Sega Era games, starting with Puyo Puyo Fever, have an Endless Mission/Task mode in them; since all the DS games have English fan translation patches (except Fever Chuu), you can actually do those missions in English too.
Oh shoot! Thank you so much for the info Tamer! I'll take a note of that and that's more to look forward to. I'm honestly a little bit embarrassed from my inexperience of the pre-PPT titles, but its really good to know now! Much appreciated again!
If I'm not mistaken, there was an old Puyo spinoff series in the Compile days called "Nazo Puyo" or something like that. From what I know it's basically like this, but presumably with easier puzzles in the front half. It'd be cool to see SEGA's take on the formula with the gimmick modes introduced in the anniversary games, like what the mod shown here did.
This mode was super fun I saw those 200 standard puzzles and were just like "I'm gonna do these on a stream just for the lols" and getting very surprised by the final 50, really made it worth it Good ol' Nazo Puyo is always super fun especially when it made you think, they really need to do something like this again
Hell yeah a puyo video that's not just gameplay it's great to see more of these on this side of the community Also nice editing love that "Insomniacs" gag
I've had Puyo Puyo Champions for years and I never knew this was a thing. Now I'm trying to work through the first 200 problems. Honestly it would be cool to see them expand on the difficult problems concept in a future game, maybe with a slightly more beginner friendly learning curve
To be honest, I'm not a Puyo person. But I DO want to learn, and thanks to the lessons in PPT1 I understood very little of the game. Puzzle on PPC can help... but barely I think. I'm happy that you uploaded a video, really
This made me touch Puyo Puyo champions again only to be reminded of how GARBAGE I am at Puyo Puyo. Besides that, that mod is literally something I want for every game in the Puyo Puyo series.
Weird how they didn't make "puzzle mode" its own thing. Also, the fact that armando made a version of bad apple in PPC's tutorial is pretty neat, and this is coming from a fan of Touhou as well (Touhou and Puyo occupy the same square in my mind, probably due to them being both PC-98 original games, or at least madō monogatari, the sister game of Puyo Puyo.)
You know what they say: when we needed him most, he returned. Honestly, the lessons had the potential to be great if it was only the puzzle portion and not tedious lessons that they basically guide you through. I don't think PPT2 has this problem but I still kinda got bored and gave up.
I know Puyo 20th anniversary also has a problem mode and I believe you can play the difficult ones without ever completing the regular problems. (I would have to double check this though) also, 20th has a chaining simulator.
Just found out about it like a day after uploading this lol. I knew about the chaining sim which I always used, but I’ve not tried much else since I can’t translate Japanese very well, the mission mode (or at the very least I think that’s what it is) was very welcome, to get the s-rank for a 16 chain, I actually winded up setting my new chaining pb by getting a 17 chain which was nice.
I’m just waiting for when they release the 3DS patch which is their next project so I can use it with actual hardware since I own the cartridge and everything. I typically don’t like to resort to emulation.
Believe it or not, i DID learn puyo with those tutorials. I just thought with each tutorial "What general rules while playing can i make up and follow to get more mileage from what the lessons teaching me."
More power to you haha! I just think the tutorials themselves are structurally flawed and have been done better in other games but awesome that you can get something out of these!
Interesting. When I learn how to do stairs transition, and everything else, maybe I'll try this out. ( Also, why tf are you still hearting comments on this?)
For a second I didn't get the joke "for insomniacs" and I thought how did he know I was insomniac for liking that mode. I still don't know why I like that crappy mode.
I recognize some of those exact puzzles from Champions' difficult puzzle from Super Nazo Puyo (and Nazo Puyo 3). Seems like they copied some templates. Regardless really cool they brought it back, shame it's hidden though. I might try that mod.
Omg thank you so much for the shoutout.......

That’s correct. And that spinoff series got even more games, like: Nazo Puyo: Arle no Roux, Super Nazo Puyo, etc.
That’s correct.
Nazo unleashed

I wouldn’t have known about it otherwise!
The only difference between the problem modes in PPT2 and PPC, is that there's a tetris side to it in PPT2
Which I didn't know until I checked

I'm never going to play this, so I wish I could see what puzzle 24 looked like
I think the reason why the mod had so few downloads is because Puyo Puyo fans are rather… MIXED towards Champions.
i remember trying the advanced problems out of curiosity and i was too smol brain to understand what to do @w@
also your reaction to the bad apple thing at the end was funny and idk why X3333
Now im actually gonna play puyo puyo champions again after seeing this
“Have fun trying to make consistent chains for several hours”. That sentence right there is what I do when I get bored at 1 am.
10:39 Bad apple real
Im glad you showed up again! Inspired to now rewatch all of your videos (:
Looks like I have to get Champions on Steam! Thank you for shining a spotlight on Armando's mod!
This is actually pretty interesting, I'll try it.
This makes me want to play the problems mode now. Gives me something to do on a five hour road trip lol.
This mod feels like a successor to Nazo Puyo and I love how it looks.
I’m still glad I never bought Puyo Puyo Bargain Bin. Excuse me while I go back to Nazo Puyo
That ending bit.... that was, shall we say, a Puyo Tetris Shenanigan?

Random Guess, Level 24 in Armando’s Puzzle Pack is where you have to get a total of 24 points with 2 moves?
No, the objective is make a 24 chain within 2 moves.
You’re given an empty board and 2 pieces both double red. Good luck!
