How To REDUCE LOAD TIMES By HALF In DCS World Multiplayer!

- Hey guys! I think we have all run into this situation:
You finally get some DCS Time after a long week and you hop happily into your Home cockpit, white scarf fluttering in the breeze, and you jump into multiplayer, click on your favorite server...
AND you're greeted with a VERY long loading time, and maybe even a DCS World crash or two as your PC tries its hardest to finally get you into that server.
Or maybe you just got home and you're late for your virtual squadron’s mission and EVERYONE is now waiting for you to finally load into the server so they can start up their jets, AND DCS and your PC decide that you need to make everyone wait a little longer.
Well today we are going to take a look at the STUPIDLY simple way to massively cut down the load times of getting into a DCS World Multiplayer Server and thus reduce the chances of DCS World Crashing on you!
I have seen upwards of a 50% reduction in load times using this simple trick, and the cool thing is the lower the specs of your PC, the better the improvement this trick will give you! So let's get started!

Hey guys! I hope this trick helps make loading into DCS World Multiplayer servers a lot easier and less frustrating for you guys! Keep in mind that the lower your PC Specs are larger the improvement you should see are. Please let me know here in the comments what improvements you saw using this trick!
Dude you take soooo long to get to the point.
he put in chapters
😂😂😂 bro look at the chapters
Only to hear something you know already. He needs to make the video more time to make money lol
@@AnthonyBooK yep I’m totally getting rich making dcs videos
Speed up the video lol
Holy cow you took 7 minutes to tell us we can save 20 seconds by wasting 2 minutes before that.
Unsure as to why you’re upset here… it’s a trick that will massively help those with lower end pc’s
@@Spudknocker some people man, it's a generational thing, maybe they have better DCS video's they could point us towards, Thank you for all you do mate.
It takes less time to load in than for you to get to the point. Pull out your phone and time loading the mission editor, creating and saving a file, then exiting the mission editor, then opening the multiplayer menu and loading into the mission. Bet it takes the same amount of time as waiting unless you have a mission designer that includes custom music.
Man, this is an old trick that has been used since DCS 1.5 days. Glad to see it still works.
Yep! Still works!! I’ve just never actually seen a video about it published haha
@@Spudknockertheyre are videos but they are so old that they are hard to find. Good on you for bringing it back up though.
Google hides search results for advertising
So loading the map in the editor was 10 seconds, add in time for the extra menus 5-10 second and add the 19 second load time. So between 35-40 seconds. Can't see it being a big time saver
your under 1 min and thats an issue?
Its just that he shows the load time as 41 seconds to get in not a huge saving. But it may be useful for people with much longer load times.. @BarkerVancity
You don't save any time. It still has to load the same amount of data whether you do it in the editor or multiplayer. This simply reduces your chances of crashing if you're on a slower machine.
@@0BuLLeT01 yep
not really about saving time - but avoiding server timeouts while you're trying to load.
What's the point? you spend more time while taking extra step while taking the editor step? Don't see any sense in this.
Less likely to crash in loading or after joining. After joining no freezes as well
@@rama7267 Nah, very slim chance crashing.
Waste of time.
Loading map for the 1st time is always a tad longer no matter where or in ME or in MP.
It’s very true! I always recommend loading things up in the ME before joining a server, leaves you less exposed to a potential DCS Crash
So a similar trick to help to avoid crashes joining MP, especially after an update or after deleting shadow cache: instant action->free flight. After an open beta patch I'll load up free flight for each map and that seems to really help.
it definitely makes sense, but if you're booting dcs up and the first thing you want to do is go to mp, why not just join the server straight away? Time it from the start of the "fix" process, not just the loading time, then you will realise that it's more of a waste of time than anything.
You need a lot more data to make the claim that this reduces load times by half.
Firstly, it doesn't even do that in your case once you account for the ME load time. It took 10 seconds to load in the ME. Not even accounting for all the time in menus, that means your "post ME trick" time is actually 29 seconds.
Secondly, all we can say for sure right now is that it reduced the multiplayer load time by about 20 seconds. For all we know, it will always be about 20 seconds, so that someone with a 2 minute load time will come down to 1:40.
In your case, that ends up being half, but without checking other PCs, you can't make the claim that this will reduce load times by half for anyone else.
He did say UP TO HALF to be fair
This is fantastic. Ty, it helped me.
I am glad it helped you out man!
Nice tip Spudknocker!
You discover the role of the cache memory..:)
One more question.
If I played a single player mission on a different map bevor joyning a online server on a different map.
Is it enough only to load the server map in advance, or is a PC restart required to cleen the PC memory and then preload the map bevor joyning the server.
It may be a useless question, but my PC already needs some time for restart.
And by the way. Thank you for the Defender Video.
No need for a pc restart!
does the time to load ME with the map and saving a miz + joining the server actually take less time than just joining?
I’m thinking that if you add the time of loading the map off line, to the subsequent loading of the multiplayer server, they’d be around the same time but without all the intervening messing around in single player. I get the crashing avoidance measures though, but I really don’t seem to get those issues personally 🤔
Add on the amount of time it took you to do your trick.. most likely close to the same time on your control test.
That may be true on my PC with my Specs, but on a lower end PC its probably more of a time saver
@@Spudknockerbased on what data? On a lower end pc, the mission editor load time will be longer too.
On older PCs it does NOTHING. This only benefits NVME ssds.
Thank you!
Woud you have the same effect by open up a DCS or Instant trainingmission?
Yes you would!
Hey spud, I'm doing a airshow for about 2-3mins right? And lands and everything but when I go back and watch track it'll show that I took off and then within 15-20 seconds my plane crashes, any idea what's going on? I'm on F-22A by the way
You’re flying a war thunder module. That’s your problem.
Could you make another f18 tutorial after this recent update? Idk if it’s me as a submariner and wasn’t meant to fly but the f18 feels extremely different also the stabs are completely finicky for me, I can’t gain any speed on takeoff and climb staying at 150 mph before I Jett my stores. saw some other users mentioning it. Never had any issue flying the f18 until very recently any way to help a sailor out?
Narration is literally “this one weird trick”
Loading a map in DCS Web Editor takes 1 second.
I CANT WAIT TO TRY IT DUDE IT LOOKS SO COOL!!!!
Not a huge time saver but definatlly helps prevent CTD.
However even hitting instant mission will have the same effect. Sure your loading a half dozen extra little things into memory but its WAY less than any MP server
With all due respect you stretch your videos 10x times what it actually could be by what you address sometimes and mainly the way you speak. I swear I have an image of you in my head looking like Mark Zuckerberg. Thx for the vid
SweeeeeT 👊😎
Glad it helped!
used to be able to load up any server within 5 mins...now im not even sure if my pc froze or not it takes so long
Hmm.. Do you have DCS On an SSD?
yes, m.2 ssd, i think my issue is with SRS@@Spudknocker
It took you at least 15 seconds to load the mission editor and save the mis file. You've only saved 7 seconds; realistically the saving here is negligible.
The savings for people with low end systems is huge
If i sum the time to open mission editor + time do enter multiplayer wound't be the same amount of time of just joining multiplayer instead?
In Theory yes! But the longer the time spent in a loading screen the more potential of facing a DCS world crash
@@Spudknocker according to who?
according to alt-tab cause that shit always happens to me@@Dan20q
@@Dan20q Well, it does happen to me and my friends as well. It's weird but it's just how it is. It becomes kind of volatile while in a loading screen.
@@Dan20q According to the dude who's got 5 billion hours in DCS, c'mon man
@spudknocker you are one of my fav dcs content creator. However in my opinion, you should avoid doing IT video (this and last one) unless you actually understand what your initial claim and actual demonstrated. The actual time taken to actual load the map in your demo should be time taken to load random save mission + MP server load time and not just the time to load the MP server.
And in according to your comments. The reason is DCS need to load alot of artifacts into system memory and GPU vram. Hence the recommendation to have SSD as the storage is helpful.
In conclusion, this video is okay, just need to add some context.
On other note. I really starting to understand how difficult to create such a beautiful capture of the game since I recently try to get my hand dirty. Please keep up the good job in that front. Your video was one of the reason I got into DCS and after investing almost 15k USD in my rig. I loving it everytime I put on my VR and fired up DCS.
Hey man I am glad my videos have helped you out in the past, for folks who have a lower spec PC this is going to be a fantastic help for them, see the other comments from guys who have regular game crashes when trying to load into the server
@@Spudknocker I can agreed that loading almost 15GB of data (context: i max out every setting in DCS) into RAM from the map artifacts in DCSworld folder does take time even on my Gen4 NVME drive. i spilt my DCSworld install onto a dedicated drive to help me out. In practice while my SSD rated for 5Gbps in real use i see more like 700Mbps. which take my load time of 15GB almost a whopping 21sec just copying the file and not even consider data unpacking happening in the background. In short, i believe the work you put is great and does helps. I felt more context is needed to get the best of value from your work.😄
Add all the time it takes to do the ME thing and it probably takes longer!?
For my pc? Yes, for lower end pc’s it’s a huge time saver
To me this is not a trick. It is a performance bug, that you ought to report (incl. details), so it can be fixed. If Server Join procedure is compared with your steps and there are differences, that can be streamlined, they should clearly do it.
i have to reload every server twice if i wasnt previously in it. srs freezes my pc so the first time will open srs, crash the game, then i have to reopen the game and server , it works fine. or i ignore the srs auto start.. are you complaining about 41seconds? seriously? dang you got high ping
Hey man, this trick will probably help you out when it comes to your issues with getting into a server and help you prevent those crashes
thanks bro, i will try this out@@Spudknocker
Ya ok but If we both log in at the same time, I go straight to multiplayer and join, while you tomtom mission editor, click open wait save exit multiplayer join....... Then wait 19sec... Yes faster but it took you a min to get there .....
But I'ma do it 😌
You did not save any time, you need to add the time it takes to load the mission editor map, save file and quit and jump between menus. On slower pc's the mission editor will also load slower so it is pointless.
Did you time all the time you took to do this "Trick"? Also, did you restart between tests?
I think you need to watch the video more closely
@@Spudknocker I watched it. I'm just curious if you did the total time from you clicking mission editor, "saving a file," then going back, clicking multiplayer, finding the server, joining in, etc.
Could use more than 64gb of ram. I'm sure it's fine, but 128 would be best.
Dawg it takes me 30 minutes to get in a server then I just crash sometimes
anyone having a vr crash when starting in oculus mt mode?
I was getting crashing. It was overheating for me. Cleaned the cooler fan and spent £9 on new cpu thermal past. Job done for me.
You made a video that could have been done in 30 seconds... Almost 8 minutes long. COME ON
u needed a calculator to work out what 100 - 46 was?
Ok...but aren't you wasting this time by going into the editor and waiting there ? all this might take more time overall than just waiting for the mission normally...basically a placebo ? You should include the time to accomplish all these actions into the waiting time. Basically you are preloading the map in the editor and then you go to the mission to load all the rest..all the while wasting time navigating all the menus instead of doing everyting at once in one place.
That would be true if you had super high end system, if you have a lower spec PC this actually helps a ton!
Could have been a 20 second video.
Congrats, the time you saved with this “fix” you just wasted watching a video that could have been 20 seconds long.
RIP your attention span Bruh… probably too much tik tok
@@SteveSmith-bs2co time is an asset; waste yours all you like 😂
First time down vote. Not only you wasted 5 minutes of my life but also this is no trick as you basically waste this time on opening a missions editor.
Hey man, on a high end system you are right it is kinda a waste of time, however on a lower end system this can be a huge time saver for guys and increase the stability of DCS as they are attemptingto join a server
"This is so simple, this simple trick bla bla bla"
Needs 5 Minutes to get to the point. Make a short instead, you could have told us the exact message in 30 seconds
He’s going out of his way to post a video on how to help us out. Quit bitching, some people find this useful.
