  • Ethan visits the Catamount Community Forest in Williston to discuss how to restore old growth characteristics in Vermont's relatively young forests, using forest management as a tool. He also discusses several ways that forests can attain old growth characteristics, including the "set it and forget it" method, where forest management is used once and then the forest becomes a reserve.

Does "Set It and Forget It" include crop tree release techniques even though the legacy trees will not be harvested or could one create legacy trees by enhancing their growth through crop tree release?

For sure - crop tree release would be a great thing to do as part of “setting it.”
