      ESPN i think if it was any other fight it was a good stoppage but this was an event and couldve have gone further as mcgregor is conditioned to take heavy shots in ufc

      I agree with both of them. not that conor was beaten up, but that weight cutting do have an affect on how the head is able to take punishment, and when conor didnt have energy to protect himself, it would eventually have in a knock down sooner or later, but i agree with stephen that it was infact premature stoppage, and deserved atleast to get a count

      I can't believe SA is saying this...This is how fighters get brain damage because guys like him want them to go out on their shield...Give me a damn break..Hey SA I want you to explain to his wife and new born son your great analogy when he is permanently damaged the rest of his life..Remember it only takes one good placed shot to make that happen..The guy took 8 unanswered blows in a row and was not defending himself for a round and a half..I'm going to call you Rocky throwing in that late towel for Apollo..RIDICULOUS ANALOGY!

  • @lionelt7882
    @lionelt7882 7 лет назад +44

    Nope. I disagree. SAS dont talk about boxing anymore. An MMA fighter died in the boxing ring just this summer. Conor literally was getting knocked around all over the ring and never had his guard up and never threw a single punch back. The ref stopped it just in time and perhaps saved Conor from potential unseen brain damage. If you said they shouldve stopped it if it was a boxer vs boxer, than why the hell shouldnt they have stopped it if it was still a BOXING MATCH!? Talking heads who have never actually boxed or fought before need to shut up. Talk about other things in regards to the fight, not this though

    The fact that 2 out of 3 judges had it 8-1 for Floyd going into the 10th pretty much sums up how retarded boxing is. There's no way in hell you watch that fight and only give Conor 1 round. Even the statistics per round had Conor 5-4 going into Round 10. It was a great fight and he lost so i guess it doesn't mean shit now but how tf do these judges score fights?

    Floyd did his thing Saturday but funny thing is ppl are still gonna try to hate 😂
    If he went in like he usually does just sitting back dodging an counter punching y'all would say he running blah blah blah but nah, this time Floyd the one chasing all fight steady coming at Conor an now I'm hearing y'all say Conor could have won that an Floyd got lucky Conor ran out of gas, but do you realize Floyd was literally letting Conor go off on him because he promised the people a non boring fight like he's done in the past an Conor still couldn't knock him out or get him in real trouble😂so imagine Floyd doing what he does best, woulda just made Conor look like a idiot swinging at nothing. Plus whole fight Floyd coming at Conor an he still managed to land more punches at a higher percentage then him.
    Just appreciate greatness while it's here instead of hating an making excuses for ya boy. Ain't gotta like him but atleast respect him as a boxer.

      Lynch 24 I give floyd his respect for his boxing skills, and I never had a problem with floyd, I just dislike the boxing community and thats why I wanted conor to pull off the upset. Floyd dominated the fight with ease, but if conors cardio was as good as most mma fighters he coulda went the distance. Woulda lost every round still but he coulda went the distance. Floyd knew exactly how to finish him and that's what he did. It had to be a late finish cause he can't knock out a fresh conor. Maybe he coulda got it sooner than 10 rounds but still he had to wear him down first. Unfortunately we also saw in boxing conor cant knock out anyone who boxes and is close to his size. only good thing I took away from this for conor in boxing was he was alright at avoiding and taking punches while he was fresh.

    He was dead tired and had a low oxygen level in his brain. This is especially dangerous when you get knocked out. Now Connor and his fans can say that he could have won when in fact the match was over. Letting it continue would have made the whole thing look sad, now he can leave on his feet.

    I give McGregor props for hanging in there for 10 rounds in his like legit first pro boxing match. I doubt ANYONE in this comment section would last 3 rounds against Mayweather at 40 years old. People don't realize how exhausting boxing is. It's hard to just go out there and box for that long when you've never done it at that level. Did McGregor have a chance? A little. He did get Mayweather stumbling a couple times, but Mayweather is one tough little man. A more fair of a fight would've been Mayweather without a huge break, and McGregor with more time to learn boxing. That would've been an even CRAZIER fight. McGregor was fixing to fall, so I see why they stopped it early. Mayweather has really always had amazing endurance. He really never gets tired. MMA is all about getting the match over with as fast as possible. Those guys train to use their maximum strength right away. Going from MMA to boxing is like going from the 400 meter dash to a mile to 2 mile run. Did McGregor talk too much smack? Yes. Did Floyd win fair and square? Yes. Did McGregor fight good? Yes. Was this mainly all for entertainment? Yes. Appreciate what you just witnessed and move on. Appreciate how great both of these athletes are, no matter how arrogant and cocky they both really can be. Still better than Pacquiao vs Mayweather for sure.
    Can we also like stop turning everything into a race thing? Geez. All black people went for Mayweather, and pretty much all white people went for McGregor. What's up with that? It's boxing, not battle of the skin color.

    The fight had to be stopped. From round 6 onwards Conner could no longer hold his arms up in a boxing stance to defend his head. Mayweather was just teeing off and bring to lands shots on Conners head. Not only was Conner tired as hell. He could no longer defend himself. Conner is not a boxer and to let him continue to take punches to the head uncontested until he falls is not what boxing is. The ref had the best view of the fight and saw Conner could no longer box. The fight was over, no point in watching a UFC Champion get pummeled when everyone was he just ran out of gas.

    I can't believe I'm agreeing with Stephen A Smith, not that I don't agree with Max Kellerman with his analysis. It's just the ref was protective of Mayweather from the beginning. You notice when the ref was giving instructions before the bell 1st round he was looking at Mc Gregor only not on Floyd. For that it arises a suspicion. So on 9th round the ref should have let Mc Gregor fall in the canvas a make a count and see where is as fighter wether he can continue or not. This is just my opinion congratulations to both fighter.

    Stephen A. needs to go watch the fight again...floyd started going to work in the 7th! 8th, 9th, connor should have K.O him. Connor got saved by the bell one of those rounds. The reason the referee stopped the fight was because connor COULD NOT GUARD HIMSELF. He was out of it! He was taking constant big shots to the head & was gonna end up with a concussion or something. With two more rounds to go?? You had to get him out of there one way or another. Not to mention alls those blows to the back of floyd head with NO POINTS taken away from Connor. They did him service. No excuses.

    In a boxing match, if the guy doesn't throw a counter punch in a minute, he's done. I love Conor, but that stoppage was the right thing to do. He wasn't hurt, he was tired, but he didn't throw any punches so you gotta stop it. Conor's the man though...

    1:20 Stephen A. needs to educate himself a bit more. The rules, as shown at the start of the fight were: *No standing eight count, no three knockdown rule, you can't be saved by the bell, and only the ref can stop the fight.* These were most likely agreed upon by both fighters during contract negotiations. It's also the reason why Floyd was so confident that the fight wouldn't go the distance, because all he had to do was stun Conor and follow up with a few definitive shots to end the fight. On the flip side, Conor probably thought that these rules would favor _him,_ since they're very similar to MMA rules, and since he counts on his power and accuracy more than actually saving energy. Combine Conor's piss-poor stamina with Floyd's accurate body shots and it was only a matter of time before Floyd went in for the kill.

    So here is what fucking gets me with the race baiting when it comes to this fight and race baiting in general.
    I am a Conor McGregor fan , i am a MMA fan , i have been for years, i was rooting for Conor in the fight because he is a charismatic fighter / performer / showman. I knew that he basically had 0 chance of winning Floyd in a boxing match.
    I don't like Floyd as a person and the way he has handled himself throughout his career.
    NONE of the reasons why i wanted Conor to win had ANYTHIG to do with race, yet i can't come out and show my appreciaton for Conor because i will get labeled as racist?
    So you mean to tell me , if a person came out and said , my favorite player for the Boston Celtics this year is Gordon Hayward because i like his style of play, is that racist too?
    Should i consider anybody picking anyone other than my skin color to support in future fights/sports racist also? Is that how this works?

      Jalen McNealy ? That makes no sense. How about the fact that Floyd, I don't know, is a convicted woman abuser. People like who they like for a different personal reasons. I think for a very high percentage of individuals race really doesn't have shit to do with it. I think character, personality, skill are the what most look for its just a matter of semantics when someone chooses to become a fan.

      Mark Grant Hit his wife or not. Giants kicker was white and hit his wife nobody cared and he didn't get in trouble. Ray Rice did and gets suspended a year and Elliot did and 6 games. Race has everything to do with anything in sports and u know it. McGregor said fuck the Mayweathers and he's cocky af and everyone supported him. But if Mayweather did likewise he receives hate and criticism. If Mayweather was white and cocky vs McGregor white and cocky then I guarantee u most Americans would want Mayweather to win. Its sad how he's American and Black so automatically everyone wanted a Ireland man to win. 100% proof of racism

    hmm, most experts(score keepers aren't experts) gave Conor the 8th round so he wasn't being outclassed for multiple rounds before it stopped. He also had floyd early in the 9th and Byrd, inexcusably stopped the action to help floyd who had been put in a defensive position which Conor was taking advantage of. Much closer fight than pundits expected, and I think it still ends the same way, but make floyd earn it instead of gifting it to him after only 4 unanswered punches, which is all he got as Conor hit him clean even while gassed.

  • @MrBeatboxmasta
    @MrBeatboxmasta 7 лет назад

    If the fight had gone longer, the only difference in the results would have been a KO instead of a TKO. Conor had no energy left and Floyd was fresh. There was no way Conor would have landed a punch after the 10th round so the ref stopped it at the right time. Dana even agreed that Conor was done.

    The stoppage was certainly reasonable. Connor took a lot of shots in the 9th, and if the bell for that round had not sounded, it would have ended there. In the 10th, it was just a matter of time before Connor would be stopped. Floyd landed about 20 unanswered punches before the referee stopped the fight. If a fighter stops fighting back for that period of time, a referee is going to stop the fight. So I have to agree with Max on this one.

  • @14traits

    1. Standing KO's also happen in MMA.
    2. Ref's responsibility also implies his responsibilities to protect the health and safety of the fighter.
    3. Conor was tired and took too many unanswered shots, especially to the head.
    It was a justifiable stoppage, totally disagree with Stephen

    Conor's not mad. He stayed out all night partying. He wasn't even upset he lost the fight. I actually think Conor didn't give his training 100%. He should have focused almost entirely on cardio or he should have tried to take Floyd out in the 1st or 2nd round. But instead he decided to box with Floyd (a big mistake). That let Floyd just sit back and wait for Conor to slow down and run out of gas (which he did starting around the 5-6 round.) Conor, for whatever reason, has major cardio issues.

  • @pmh1nic
    @pmh1nic 7 лет назад

    You saw a man (Conor) that was exhausted, getting hit and hurt at the moment the fight was stopped. It's under those conditions when a fighter can get really hurt. The ref did the right thing. His job is to not allow the fighters to take undue punishment. Conor was toast with two minutes left in the round. He was rendered TKO'D and rightly so.

  • @jhonas329
    @jhonas329 7 лет назад

    Stephen A. Smith is out of his mind here. The punishment Conor withstood in past UFC bouts is meaningless. Fighters in MMA rarely take protracted beatings because, typically, once they're hurt, the opponent jumps on top of them to quickly finish things. Floyd was delivering a one sided beating for two consecutive rounds. At the time of the stoppage, Conor was staggering across the ring after taking something like 13 unanswered blows; and Floyd was continuing to land at will. This is exactly the type situation where a fighter risks serious injury -- or worse. While for most of the fight, I thought the ref was just so-so, for the stoppage he was right on point.

  • @bassbole
    @bassbole 6 лет назад

    Max knows his combat sports and is 100% right here. You don't let a fighter take unnecessary punishment. Also, not sure what fight Stephen A. was watching because Conor was literally getting punched across the ring prior to the stoppage.

  • @ReasonExtremist
    @ReasonExtremist 7 лет назад

    One very serious way to get hurt isn't just by getting knocked out early, often what's worse is taking excessive damage when you're tired and beat up. I'm a fan of Conor/mma there was nothing wrong with the stoppage. Not . a . thing . Honestly I'm a little skeptical of Stephen's true feelings behind his stance on this issue.

    I believe it was a good stoppage, maybe Mcgregor could have continued but that would have gone against the ethics of boxing and that is the difference between MMA, which is savage and does not take account of the technical and accumulative nature of a boxer's punch..

    SAS has absolutely no idea what he's talking about. When the ref stopped the fight Mcgregor was completely defenseless, he couldn't even keep his hands up. So just because he is an mma fighter than we should allow him to repeatedly be hit in the face more than any other boxer? That's just allowing a concussion/brain damage just for the sake of watching it happen. Those are the kinds of things we are desperately trying to avoid for athletes. It was the perfect time to end it

  • @kbtken
    @kbtken 7 лет назад

    The first thing the ref tells you before every fight is protect yourself at All TIMES. Once you start taking punches with your guard down it's the refs job to protect you by stepping in. If the ref kept it going and Connor died or got brain damage then the critics would call the ref negligent just so they could have something to say. Connors has trained his whole career to never quit in MMA and he probably instructed his corner to never throw in the towel. The ref had to stop it

    Here's the full truth, in mma they often stop fights prematurely, in fact McGregor has benefited from it multiple times. McGregor gave signs that he was out on his feet, so the referee stopped it. I would have preferred the referee let Floyd actually ko him because he just gave McGregor the excuse he needed and can now blame it on the referee.

    Head trauma is head trauma is head trauma regardless of the arena. The referee could see that Conor didn't know how to slow down the onslaught or how to defend himself in the final round and a half of the fight. The guy has a young son, and he's going to be thankful for that stoppage when he's able to show his son how to throw a punch or how to dribble a soccer ball. He made more money than he has in his entire career up until that point, and he's still a champion in the UFC and the biggest draw in MMA.
