Maserati Gransport Trofeo Light (GT3) in Action on Track!

- Back in 2003 Maserati introduced their single-marque championship, "Trofeo Maserati", with the introduction of the 4200GT Trofeo. It was powered by a Ferrari 4.2-litre V8 engine with a power of 413 hp. In 2005 they unveiled the Gransport, basically an upgraded 4200GT, and the Trofeo version too.
During the same year, a new change in the GT3 rules paved the way to the eventual competing in the FIA GT championships and which led to the development of the Trofeo Light in order to have a Maserati for the FIA GT3 class. The dry weight of the car is around 1,150kg and the V8 engine is now producing 430hp at 7,000 rpm. The gearbox is a 6-speed "Cambiocorsa".

I miss seeing these cars. I wish Maserati would make a proper sportscar again instead of just constantly teasing us with the Alfieri. Would be a great addition to the GT3 class.
Maybe now that FCA and PSA merged together, the new CEO Tavares will give Maserati the chance to produce a new top model to revive the brand. Worst case would be however that he just kills both Alfa Romeo and Maserati because these brands are dying out right now and sales are low anyway.
They need to make the GranTurismo's successor into a GT3 car. Just as pretty, twice as fast. Since the Dodge Viper is dead (sniffle) there isn't really a better brand to make a GT3 car for besides Ferrari.
@@nik7bkh965 Here in Italy Alfa sold lots of Giulias and Stelvios and the smaller suv Tonale is on its way so I'm pretty sure Alfa isn't dying out. Maserati is doing good in China and middle east I believe, the problem is that it shifted its target buyers and now competes with premium brands such as BMW, Porsche, MB...
@@giobattaperosa9956 Yeah, the German premium brands are definitely giving Alfa and Maserati a hard time... Alfa romeo has a hard time in Europe because cars like the C-Class, BMW 3 series, Audi A5 are far more popular outside of Italy than the giulia. Also the Stelvio has more than just the GLC, the Q5 and the X3 as competitors... The giulietta is basically dead and definitely worse than Audi A3, Mercedes A Class or seat Leon for example (coming from an Alfa fan) because it's basically the same car for 8 years now which is really sad. The giulietta is just too outdated. The stelvio and giulia are definitely on par with the german car though, but they still suffer from alfa romeos bad brand-reputation...
Maserati has it even worse than alfa because ALL their models are outdated and significantly worse than what the Germans are offering... The ghibli and quattroporte have such an outdated and cheap interior that it's noway near comparable to what a S Class or E class look like inside. The tech inside (infotainment system) has been the same for more than 5 years. It all looks pretty outdated. I don't see maserati living long if they don't make some changes in their product portfolio.
Honestly to see Maserati take up racing in the GT3 class would be epic. I cannot think of anything better for the brand than to return to its racing roots, it may not see instant results but the cars we see on screen as kids are the cars we aspire to own and the brands we wish to support as we come of age and gain the financial ability.
looks and sounds great. Dispete having a Ferrari V8 it sounds more like a muscle car.

Maintenance is probably a nightmare tho lol youd be better off buying a newer car I think in the long run
@@kylepasta maintenance actually isn't that bad. You can get extremely unlucky with something like the heater core or immobilizer, but the cars are otherwise fairly bulletproof. Much more reliable than a same-year Jag or Aston and comparable to a 911 in terms of service costs.
@@flyingphoenix113 yep was going to type this, the 4200 coupe is very reliable as long as you get the rare manual, Gransport has the auto manual which needs clutches like it needs brake pads.
@@Trialnerror Excellent taste in cars sir. For my imaginary purchase, I would use the clutch replacement money, get a 4200 manual coupe, and bolt GS parts to it. Wont be as collectible but will be 99%of what a GS is, and no F1 clutch issues. But enjoy your ride sir, amazing car.
I have now owned my 2004 Coupe for 7 years. I spend about $1000 per year in repairs and maintenance. I put 25,000 miles over the 7 years. Not that much more expensive if at all than a comparable M series BMW or a AMG.

They sound pretty mean!
It's a race car. Has no muffler. Most shit boxes without a muffler sounds "mean" burbles and pops and growls. I used to have a 3 cylinder Suzuki Swift that had an exhaust leak. It sounded "mean" as well.

The engine, is it the "original" GranSport with a GranTurismo manifold inlet or a complete GranTurismo engine, hope I make my question clear enough to understand what I am getting at?

What car is that at 1:40 between the two Maseratis?
It's a silhouette racer built by the French company Solution F and it's called TC10. You can choose from various engines (that one has a LS7 V8) and external bodies. The one that resembles a Volvo V60 is quite famous ;)
