Will micro glass beads work with this? From what I understand there are several size grades.
@@tikkidaddy Whatever you use for media must generally be harder than that which you wish to etch for the effect to occur. In the examples shown, glass beads would work on wood but most likely wouldn't do much to a drinking glass due to both materials being close to the same hardness. Yes, the material itself does influence whether or not it will "cut" or otherwise erode another material but the hardness of the material is the main factor. At the end of the day, if in doubt? Test it out! Best wishes!

Nate: what level of difficulty would you say this project is?
Calli: I mean, if you have an air compressor, not at all
This does work extremely well, but I wonder how long that tube will last before the inner walls sand away.
use an intensely thick tubing
you can always replace it when it goes bad, also shouldnt cost much too!
I think this is for occasionally users. If you sand blast ALOT, you should buy the REAL stuff.
That sounds like a question for Jake Paul
The sand is travelling parallel to the walls of the tube. When the sand hits a surface perpendicular to its velocity, all of the sand's energy is being put into the object and it chips away small pieces, but when the sand lightly skims across a surface parallel to its velocity, barely any energy is put into it, and the surface won't be chipped away, so I think the inner walls of the air gun will be fine for quite a long time.

Go pick up a cheap smaller compressor at Lowe’s. Or harbor freight. Or really anywhere that sells tools. You don’t need a huge one like they had. I think you should try to remove rust from an old tool with this sandblaster to check how it works on that!
This video is like EA games, it takes you maybe 5 or 10 dollars to make it, then you spend the next 300 dollars getting an Air Compressor, file, sand, drill, drill bit, wood, shower rubber, etc.
If you are going about diy that isn’t on Instagram or Facebook where hot glue and popsicle sticks are the life blood of their ideas, you will most likely need at least some tools.
I mean you could do this with a canned air duster , a lighter and a nail to poke through the bottle , as well as hot glue for stability. However it will be not nearly as sturdy as the video example.
Let’s not forget about how Skate 3 was amazing
If you already have the things what is there to be complaining about? It takes just a few minutes to set up and it works really great. I made one and it lasts forever. I’ve never had any issues with it.
And face protection
Any living being should have a drill, drill bits, scrap wood laying around, files. Then a lot of people that watch these have things like air compressors.

To all of you that are saying "but you still need an air compressor". Air compressors are a fairly common "must have" for a do-it-yourselfer. If you dont have one, get one. You're missing out on a ton of awesome projects, and at very least, it's one of a few basics you'll need to be able to make nice diy stuff.
Besides, if you buy an air tool, you still need an air compressor. Pretty standard practice...
You don't want to breath in that sand and contract pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis
Or you could just say silicosis, which is close enough
well getting that type of silicosis would come from accidentally inhaling the materials expelled from a volcanic eruption
You don't get that by inhaling sand though.
@@Charvin The word is made up, the disease is real (silicosis). From Wikipedia "lung disease caused by inhaling very fine ash and sand dust." Note the last 2 words. Sandblasting with sand that contains silica does in fact cause this disease which has no cure.

Sieve is pronounced "Siv" not seev.
i agree the way he said it hurt my soul
He also pronounced Basswood as base-wood and not bass wood like in the fish. It got its name from making fishing lures for bass fishing
Yeah... base-wood is what caught my attention. Aside from the fact that you can buy a cheapie gun off Amazon for $20. I started the diy route for a gun and spent probably $15 before just checking amazon and getting something that will last more than a few uses. Sometimes it's not worth doing diy when you'd end up spending more for less.
No it's pronounced seev, for ie makes the ee sound
nedkelly60 its seev boi u wrong
For how simple it is, I appreciate it. I don't use this for decorative purposes, I use it to prepare metal for welding on SMAW or MIG outfits. But I did cave and use some to help etch into surface-brazed metal, and it does work quite well. Industrial quartz sand is what I use for this, and what most sandblasting equipment uses when involved in metal prep for welding.
Says it costs 5$
**uses a compressor**
....
ZS comedy the sandblaster itself costs $5. Sure the compressor doesn’t, but the compressor isn’t the sandblaster is it? No it is not.
Can you use a 5$ sandblaster without compressor ?
So is this is why we have disclaimers on everything we buy? Bleach LOOKS like water, but it is NOT water. DO NOT DRINK! You obviously do not know, what sandblasting entails.
@@owenfulkerson7291 the air gun alone is 5 dollars.. so the sand blaster isnt 5 dollars

If you don't have access to finer sand and want to sandblast wood, I'd recommend using a harder wood such as pine or oak. Basswood (pronounced like the bass fish, not base) is a very soft wood that is used often in the woodcarving community for its softness.

$5 sand blaster if you already have all the parts and tools and sand and compressor.
Seriously, everyone needs an air compressor. Its like number 4 on the list of tools all adults need. It goes multi-head screw driver, Cordless drill, ratchet set and then air compressor. It doesn't need to be a huge one like they had in the video. Get a cheap pancake one that can drive some nails, fill up some tires and blast air(and sand) where you need it

Uh huh...
irk the cheapest i can find any of that would be at least $2-300
TKOR do you think you could use this on a small scale for cleaning up metal parts from corrosion?
Yes it will work that way but ofcourse less efficiënt than a "real" sandblaster and you have to use the right kind of sand there are many different types you can use
MrKris286 use a metal wire brush on an angle grinder but wear eye pro because metal wires can fly off at high speeds and getting hit can hurt a little
You can also use baking soda (or blasting soda) on aluminum parts that you want to keep looking nice. Quartz and aluminum oxide media abrade the surface of aluminum pretty severely.
Could you put a high pressure oblect like a co2 cartridge inside a vacuum chamber
a co2 cartridge is way to small not enough compressed air you could probably only do a dot
