I do agree that the zfc is a complimentary tool that is perfect for any professional. I did on it and found it really light and fun to use as well. In fact the small size made it less intimidating versus my Z8 when shooting an intimate setting. If I weren't getting ZF I would have kept the ZFC as a backup camera.
The zf is the perfect replacement to the zfc , good choice there 😁
Reg. "sucky AF in nikon" - totally agree.
I never had one issue with Z50 and as we know it's slightly 'worse' than Z fc
True!! Coming from a DSLR, the capabilities of this mirrorless (and almost every mirrorless) are God sent! Love the autofocus on the z50 especially with all the firmware updates over the years. Nothing wrong with it.
Most of that trend came from the fact the Z6 and Z7 did have a really bad AF at lunch, but since then a lot as been made to upgrade it, even my Z6 have a great AF and even the Z50 got update to get basicaly the same AF as the Z30 with eye AF in video ! that and the "good old" nikon bashing and you get why people still thinks nikon AF sucks :/ influencers really have done Nikon dirty i'm afraid...
@@malekith13 really well said mate! Spot on
Thank you for your report and for showing what is possible even with an inexpensive camera. Regarding the alternatives to the Zfc: have you ever considered the Z50 because of its significantly better ergonomics? And what would be your alternative with 2 card slots? The Z6 II?
Thank you mate!! The z50 is great alternative but since I'm doing RUclips I want to have a fully articulating screen. But other than that they re almost the same camera. At this price point I would also consider the Fuji xs10/xt3.
For dual SD cards again in this price range I would look at the z5. But only for photography because the video on the z5 is garbage. The z6ii is on another price range so it's not really comparable but since you asked , I would much rather get the Lumix s5ii at around 2k budget. There's no better camera in that price point.
People mostly choose Nikon for stills and Canon or Sony for hybrid shooting. Z6II is discounted now for the holiday season and it is very interesting at the moment. I don't know much about Lumix but please let us know when you decide
@@marijanbabic9742 Love the z6ii. You can find great deals on the used market and i think theres going to be a huge sale in the black friday. I just hate the fact that you cant record internally 10 bit log. The lumix s5ii does all that and is priced alongside the z6ii (New condition)
In photography school, one of the most important things we were told was, “Backup, backup, backup.” So 2 of some of the obvious things such, as camera bodies, lenses, cords, etc. 2 card slots should be a must, and for peace of mind.
Yep , thats why im probably upgrading if i land many weddings next season :)
I agree about the cards. I'm not a high volume shooter, but even I've had two SD cards go bad on me. I was lucky that I was just shooting at the park for fun on both occasions, and I was shooting a two card camera anyway. A company that I shot for once had to redo an entire day of senior portraits because an SD card couldn't be read.
Regarding the upgrade it's really going to take some research and maybe a spreadsheet on your part. Only you know your full list of requirements, so making a list and determining which cameras give you the critical versus "nice to have" features would be useful in making your decision.
I moved from Nikon to Fujifilm in 2021, and recommend that you should only consider the X-T5, X-H2, and X-H2S as a wedding camera from the current line. The older models have poor AF tracking (though they are quite good for static subjects). I know that many successful wedding shooters have used the X-T3 over the years, but they rely to some degree on volume shooting to solve the tracking problem. For example, if my X-T4 gets its usual tracking success rate of about 60% for a person walking towards it and I shoot 30 shots of the bride coming down the aisle I will have a lot to pick from. But I would rather use my new X-H2S, which has a fantastic hit rate, so I won't stress over whether I got the best moment. And with its sharp EVF I will be able to see very clearly that I'm getting the shots, not just hope.
The S5II is very nice, and I enjoyed using it when I tried one for a couple of weeks. Be aware that (unlike the X-H2S) there is a crop for 4K60, so you might need to think about how you'd manage potentially changing lenses you use when you want the higher speed frame rate. I'd love to suggest more on that, but I'm just starting to learn video myself. I've been doing stills photography for over 40 years, and I love it as much as ever.
Good luck!!
Love your insight Mike!! For my current budget I'm thinking about the Lumix s5ii (or the x version) or the xt5 xh2 xh2s. I'm leaning towards the s5ii for now just because of the better AF on video and slightly better capabilities in low light but on the other hand , Fuji has so many lenses in every price range so we will see 😅. I'm happy that the possible upgrades that I have in my mind are the one's that you recommend. Makes me more confident on my choices when someone who has been so long in the game has similar opinions to mine. Thank you again 🙏
You're very welcome. Good luck!@@IliasKoureas
I'm so curious. Have you pulled the trigger on a new camera yet?@@IliasKoureas
@@fotogmike5887 No i havent Mike! If i end up doing full time wedding photography i'll upgrade , but for now im good :)
Thanks for the response. I do think that you're right in leaning towards the S5II for weddings. In the weeks that I tested that camera against the X-H2S I found that the low light advantage of the full frame sensor was really more than the one stop that people usually state as the difference between the two sensor sizes. Also, while they both have great AF systems, the S5II's system is more flexible and enjoyable to use. And the CFExpress cards for the X-H2 and X-H2S are much more expensive, even more important if you buy two bodies for redundancy. If I were mainly a wedding shooter I would go with the S5II.@@IliasKoureas
Thank you for such a detailed and thorough review, Nikon is getting into the retro style and this should only help seperate them from the usual Sony/Canon options. I moved from Canon Full frame to Fuji crop and its been amazing, i have done many weddings and christenings with Fuji now and i can honestly say the pro’s outweigh the con’s. The Fujis have dual card slots, the lenses are very sharp and designed specifically for APSc not Full frame which means they are also very light and affordable, the color science and skins too me are much better then Canons. I shoot up to 3200 iso with very acceptable results and any noise i see actually looks quite pleasing. i shoot Raw +Jpg but most of the time the Jpgs straight out of camera are good to go, The Film simulations which by the way are fantastic are perfect when I’m taking pics of the family and the kids. I think sensor technology today has improved so much that its almost impossible to see any noticeable difference between the two systems.
Thank you Elias!! Im considering fujifilm as a possible upgrade. They tick all the boxes + the film simulations are so useful in any way!! i know people who deliver only the jpegs and their clients are so happy just because of these film recipes. Its between the lumix s5ii and the fuji xh2 xt5 for me.
Im so happy that you are doing well with this system. This just proves my point that , its not about owning the best camera in the market. Its about getting a camera that is right for us. In 2023 almost every camera can handle profesional situations like weddings.
another video about Z fc? Instant like! :D
Hahaha that's awesome 😂🙏
I've also zfc body and bought nikon 24-70mm f2.8s lens for zfc. That's crazy and highly recommend it, as I Nikon D810 user! I stopped using nikon 810 also :=)
Could be the ultimate event combo!! Personally i dont shoot wider that 35 (full frame) or tighter than 130mm so this covers all the focal lengths that i like!!
@@IliasKoureas If you're wondering to see images, I can send you a few photos what I took via instagram?
Blunt. i love it.
Reg. battery life - having possibility to charge from powerbank is really nice, but even nicer is having a small powerbank with new smallrig batteries in your bag.
You can just toss them into a single pocket and after some time you have 100% charged battery without even noticing it :)
That's probably the best solution!!! I do something similar. I have a dual battery charger which connects via a USB c with my power bank. But that smallrig charger hack sounds amazing!!
Canon does have the 4K 60 on it's R10 but that crop though... and without oversampling... the R7 isn't great too in that regard with no oversampling or 1.81 time crop for 4K 60p with oversampling... fujifilm made it look so easy when they managed a 4K 60 with a tiny 1.18 crop on their XT3 back in 2018... ^^
The canon r10 and r7 are awesome cameras. I just hate what canon has done with the lens selection. Banning third party lens makers (hopefully this will change soon) and giving literal garbage for kit lenses is unheard of and in my eyes they are mocking the beginners and enthusiasts who don't know any better. Fuji and Sony are the kings in mirrorless apsc. The Fuji line up is out of this world. Even the xt3 was far ahead it's time like you said 💪
Great video 🖤
Glad you liked it ❤️
Sorry I didn't catch, what lenses did you use for the sanple photos you used?
Almost all of these were taken with the viltrox 23mm 1.4 and the viltrox 85mm 1.8. These are the two lenses which I use for my work.
Is Nikon Zfc good enough for professional use? Sure. Is it better than the competition? No. The main problem is the poor apsc ecosystem for Z mount. If Sigma launches the apsc f2.8 zooms for Z mount, then at least there will be fast zoom choices.
YES!! The sigma 18-50mm 2.8 or the Tamron 17-70mm 2.8 are much needed additions. For sure , Sony and Fuji are the better apsc systems
@@IliasKoureas In my honest opinion, your upgrade should be the Zf. Corrects every single disadvantage of the Zfc without any compromise.
@@DVaderlar Thats true. The only thing i dont like is that you cant shoot video in both memory cards at the same time. You can do that only for photography
Bro...use the Zf...you.wont come back
Thinking about it. But the fact that it's 2700€ in Europe and I can't shoot video in both SD cards at the same time make it hard for me to prefer the zf over the Lumix s5iix for example. But it's a great camera and I've contacted Nikon to loan me one
Thanks sir. I just bought this camera. I am not a pro, just a hobbist. This camera is beautiful. And i will bring this for my travel
Enjoy it my friend!
