I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets excited about the temperature and the weather! :D
The Celsius temperature scale is the number one reason why Americans (Like me) resist adopting the metric system. I tend to use metric measure in cooking, and for the most part Americans are bilingual in the measurement systems. But we don’t understand why anyone would want Celsius. For most of the year it 20 point something C, where Fahrenheit has a much wider range in the temperatures that humans like to be in. It gives us a better feel for how hot or cold it is. But then again, I grew up using English measurements, so they are all familiar to me, as Celsius is familiar to yourself. We hold onto our Fahrenheit, like the English hold onto the Stone for human weight.
David, It’s always a pleasure to watch one of your videos, even if only for a few minutes. You have a habit of timely dropping them when I need the relaxing break.
I cannot tell you, mere words cannot convey, how happy I am to discover that somebody else out there is fascinated with This Sort Of Thing. I have a similar gadget, which I used to monitor conditions in my lizards' enclosure (before the last one slithered off to the Rainbow Bridge last year). Temperature! Humidity! Maximum! Minimum! Were the basking spots warm enough? Were the nesting boxes damp enough? Were the thermal elements hot enough? I interrogated my device daily. I plotted graphs. I even had a waterproof probe to make sure that their pond wasn't getting too warm. THE INFORMATION AT MY FINGERTIPS! All good fun. Completely unappreciated by the residents at the time, of course - there was that time that I caught two of them having sex on one of the monitors, all a bit sordid, really. You think cats take their humans for granted, water dragons are the most brazen and entitled of creatures.

I think that as long as the canal is not frozen solid the water in it should hover around 4 degrees (highest density of water) under the boat in the winter.
How about a sensor in the fridge instead so you can see if the milk is about to spoil ? :-)

Weird scale???? When I hear 30 degrees, I am ready to start layering. Now at 86F, that is right comfortable... that I understand completely!! Cheers, I too am easily amused. :)
You seem so much happier when you're talking about the boat and gadgets then when you're cruising, you seem considerably more grumpy when cruising.

You and me both, I need none of those. I constantly check the weather on my phone. I must be mental. Right now in Massachusetts,
it's 20 F and we have a stiff wind 12 mph which makes it feel like 7 F, but the humidity is high, that makes it even colder. OK, now I'm rambling...Oh, it's after 5pm time for a drink. Cheers my friend.
I'm not one to usually criticize the editing work on this here vlog but 0:15 -- that deadpan at the end of the sentence was so priceless, it deserved its own hold; it cracked me up enough that I missed the next part. Either way, cool product review.

Being American, I find the Fahrenheit scale easy to use and understand. It is what we have all grown up with. The Celsius scale probably makes more sense (I know it does to scientists and engineers). I have put an app on my phone to convert F to C and C to F. I mainly use it when watching your vlog. I, like you, am obsessed with the temperature. I like that gadget that you bought.

Nice setup, I would like to give you a tip and that is if it routinely gets below freezing outdoors using lithium batteries in the outdoor sensor will make it more reliable. Your bilge will maintain temperature better because of the thermal mass of all that water in your water tank, water is quite resistant to changing temperature. As for the whole Celsius Fahrenheit debate, remember the scale you grew up with is the easier one to understand. Another tip is that if you look around online you might be able to find a chart or table that tells you what you want to try and keep your indoor humidity at for any given outdoor temperature to prevent condensation on your windows. I have a thermostat that works with my humidifier that does this automatically in my home and it really does work, although it does get a bit dry in here when it is really cold outside, at least the windows stay dry and frost free.
Gadget ordered! I cannot wait to try it out in our house built in 1895, with no cavity walls! I can see hours of fun ahead. Question is now, shall I set up a spreadsheet to record some of the data. Big decisions ahead.

I have had a version of this, the one without the three remote sensors, for a couple of years now. I really like it.
The trending arrows, and the 24 hour high/low readings are very useful. Mine has an “all time” high/low reading, as well as the 24 hour reading.
I am quite as simple as you, so I will probably have to purchase the version you feature here with the three remote sensors.

Hello David. Thing to remember is that the humidity reading is relative. Relative to what? The temperature. So if the temp drops, the humidity will rise, even thought the amount of water vapor in the air has not changed. Sounds all too confusing. Relative Humidity is a amount of water vapor the air is capable of caring at it's current temperature. I rather watch the Dew Point. It paints a clearer picture.

This is exactly the nerdy sort of thing that I enjoy so much. I almost cheered when you reported that it can display the minimum and maximum readings during the last 24 hour period!
David, thanks for 6 minutes of entertainment, you’re indeed funny. C vs. F, I guess it’s all relative. I have an outside weather station where here it can easily drop to -15 F in the winter and hit 110 F in the summer. Be careful because watching temperatures can become an obsession because it turns into watching current and trending weather conditions. Have fun with your little “gadget” I have four and you’re right the do provide hours of entertainment. Cheers!
You should keep a weekly log. You’ll be pleased to see the readings after a few months / years. Important to note the outside temp too. Have fun with it!!

I have a sensor system inside and outside my house. I have one back in the crawl space that assures me the pipes will not freeze. And one on the deck that lets me know if I will need a coat outside. So you are far from the only one amused by contrasting and changing temperatures. Nice little video!

I suppose living on your own, every little addition to your living experience can seem enormous. I've been living on my own for around 6 months and little things like a pop up toaster have become mind blowing to me.

Oh, and forgot to write up: That little bags, that you find sometimes in packages of stuff you buy (f.ex. from amazin) with that grainiy things in it (silicate) are formidable for lightly damp places (I use them behind cellar doors) and they suck up some of the humidity... from time to time i put them on the radiator or put them outside, when its somewhat sunny and dry, so that they loose their humidity again. thanks again for the vlog and that link.... still tempted...

Information CAN lead to knowledge...and they say 'knowledge is power!' I like these gadget VLOGs you offer. In my case, temperature fluctuations and relative humidity are useful for brining and curing hams and for preserving sausages.
Great device! I used to have one you could buy extra sensors for, but they were expensive. The one I liked best was a data logger so I could watch temperature over time. A must-have for the temperature-obsessed.
I am as simple as you, if not simpler, and I love stuff like this. In fact, we are planning a trip from West to East here in the good old US, no political comments please, and you have just motivated me to get a system whereby I can monitor different areas of the RV. Especially in the area of the fresh water tank. Good show old man. Cheers

Ah a man after my own heart. Sadly I’m on my third version of these as the sensors seem to fail after a while. Beware small bugs getting inside if outside and dying which really ruins them, earwigs are the worst! You will inevitably upgrade to one that does barometric pressure as well. I look forward to the new weather vlogs.

Haha - I am one of those that 'use' the F setting. Then I grew up using it for the last 60+ years. So it's normal for me. 32 F = 0 C etc. Water boils at 212 F and 100C for you. I like weather also - as I storm spot / chase storms for the county here. The stories i could tell you about close tornadoes. Take care - be safe. Was a great weekend as the Spurs won.

units that are outside I shelter from the weather by cutting the bottom of a 4 pint milk container and inverting it to cover the sensor.

My girlfriend's place has an outdoor sensor linked to an indoor sensor, and then a separate alarm clock/temp/humidity unit in the bedroom. It does create not only lots of useful information, but hours of entertainment. I do think it would be worth it for you to get an outdoor sensor, because being on water means you're kind of in an envelope around the boat which fades as you get farther away from the canal or river. My house is near a large creek/small river, and it is definitely within that envelope due to elevations on either side. Just a half mile in either direction and the temperature is typically higher, and the humidity is quite a bit lower!
The one in the well deck constitutes my outdoor sensor, the deck's only covered by the canvas roof.
Nice idea, I'm going to get one for my van conversion. One in the living space, one in the separated cab and one outside. Perfect!

I have been using simular ones for years, but they always came with only one sensor, so I always bought two or three to get more sensors. On holidays I could keep an eye on the temperature in the fridge in the caravan while I was driving. As wel as the one belonging to my friends. Could be an idea if you take the van out.

I'm with you David! I've just bought myself a similar unit but more of a weather station from Lidl. Wonderful thing. I find myself studying it every couple of hours or so.

I'm pretty certain, although I could be wrong, that back in the days of Bert Ford the BBC weather used to use the Fahrenheit scale.
He used to slap little black magnetic discs on the map to signify rain and it was such leap forward when the cloud symbols appeared.

Oh what a subject for me!
Firstly, complements on your stunning arrangement of the block of wood and the rag, aesthetically pleasing to say the least.
Now, the humidity at 10c, 89%, not too much to worry about but try venting that area to see if that makes a difference.
Humidity is directly proportional to temperature. You could have a winter day with clear blue skies but the humidity is over 90% because it is cold.
Conversely, you could have a grey summers day that looks like rain but the humidity level is only 50% because it is warmer.
Warm air can physically hold more water. This is why why the temperature drops you get condensation, the cooler air can't hold that body of water, the percentage goes higher to the point the air dumps the water all over your windows. (Something like that.)

As summer cruiser with my boat sitting in the marina over winter, I too have been paranoid about the boat freezing up. Fortunately, this winter has been pretty mild. I have a digital thermostat to operate the heater, but I do monitor the minimum temperatures. i would like it to be for the whole period since I last looked, rather than the last 24 hours. Still only a month till I start cruising again, so hopefully, no beast from the east this year!!
The Brits are delightfully eccentric with weights and measures. Coming back from S Africa my car had to be changed to miles per hour , my weight to stones and pounds but the milk is in litres and the veggies in kilos.
Milk is still available in imperial quantities ;) We're not eccentric just the beneficiaries of a reasonable education system that enabled us to work with imperial quantities that our less well educated friends across the channel couldn't get to grips with and so had to count in tens which is childs play....
I know the feeling, I am similarly obsessed with the temperature and have several thermometers around the house.
A man after my own inclinations. I keep an RF thermometer on my RV to keep an eye on my freezer. It runs on propane. Turns out the it goes through a defrost cycle every 60 hours. That caused a panic the first few times until I dug into the manual far enough! Good information is ALWAYS interesting!
