I own and use the FR SR 800 with extended tube and Razzo chaff screen. I love the FR for the site. You can see the entire bean as it goes through the cycles and most times I roast from site and smell. I do have a timer running also. I use very little heat with the FR to get to my desired roast level which most times is dark or cool just as second crack starts. I don't use the cool down cycle as I have my own vacuum cooler that is much faster. I can usually by watching the beans finish dry faze in 4 minutes and first crack just before 8 minutes. Most times total roast time around 10 minutes. It is rare that I get the fan above 6 and the heat above 4. I have a dedicated power outlet with nothing else running. Just plain fun.

For as different as the two roasters are, they achieve an impressively similar output (Behomore is certainly more consistent). Thanks for putting this together!

How did they end up tasting / comparing?

I didn't really get great results from these beans at any point with the 5lb bag I had lol. The Behmor definitely pulled better shots of espresso but, for whatever reason, these beans would not roast evenly for me so the extractions just always seemed a bit off. Can't remember what the beans were so I'm afraid I won't be able to warn people lol!

@@JohnDennery You're not just judging by the looks though when mentioning the Behmore is more even, you can actually tell the difference with pulling shots? I have the FreshRoast and original Behmor 1600 (non plus) and I mainly do espresso, I use about 320g in the Freshroast with extended chamber and I Think it gives pretty even results just gotta keep the beans moving. I like using it more so I have the Behmor listed for sale, but maybe that's a mistake? :D

I read you can't achieve a dark roast with the Behmor

I’ve seen that mentioned several times but it’s definitely not true. I think people don’t realize you can use the ‘C’ button to the extend the roast as many times as you need. Without that, the standard time can run out before you get there but you can easily just keep using that button to roast as long as you need. I’ve roasted much darker than I wanted to plenty of times lol!

@@JohnDennery how would you rate it in terms of consistency? Thanks

@@freshpots8727 Do you mean how easy is it to replicate roasts? It's quite easy if you're taking notes, for example: 100% power for 9 minutes, then to 75%, 1st crack started at 10:35, I ended the roast at 12:15, etc.
The only thing that will change is external temperature. Roasting on a winter morning vs in the midday sun definitely affects the timing of everything, but other than that the Behmor is quite reliable. You just need to take the time to dial-in every new type of green beans you order.
The other factor would be if you roasted in multiple locations and the outlets were different strengths. That will actually make a huge difference.
I wish they would send me the new model to play with and review haha, then I could really give you some accurate info!

@@JohnDennery on my Original Behmor1600 (non plus) there's a max time it allows, can you extend the roast time indefinitely on your model? One trick if you want to extend your roast time is to select the 1lb amount, when using lets say 1/2lb or less, then you should have more time than what you need without risking it cutting off prematurely.
