  • Genesis last studio album remains a polarizing place among prog rock fans. What was the story behind it? A deep dive on the events that led up to the recording of a very 90s sounding collection of songs with lots of potential. #genesis #philcollins #mikerutherford #tonybanks #classicrock #documentary #raywilson

    I’ve been listening to we can’t dance a lot. Some great tracks on it and fading lights was a great way to end it. Tony’s synth solo gets me every time and it’s even better live

    I haven't had a chance to catch up with your channel lately and its funny I was going to suggest that you do Genesis as your next band to cover so I was pleasantly surprised to see this. Awesome!

    The Norwegian singer Jan Teigen
    was offered an audition for Genesis after Gabriel left but he stayed loyal to his bandmates in
    The Norwegian Prog Band Popul Vuh/Popul ace.
    Check out their debut album Popol vuh.
    Great 70's Prog with Jazzfusion elements 👌

    ahhhhhh
    I suspect this will include the origins of Ray Wilson becoming the vocalist, and that has a fair amount of both lore and mystery.
    David Longdon and of course Kevin Gilbert were among the names that have been documented to have also potentially auditioned and been Mike and Tony's choice. However, there have been several pieces that have come out about Kevin Gilbert auditioning for Genesis.
    Was he going to be? Did he know about it? etc How did he have the opportunity?..the timing of it all.
    I am certainly interested in hearing what you uncover with this, and the rest of Calling All Stations and Ray Wilson..the failed tour cycle, etc.

      I did my best to compile everything without turning this into a 3 hour show hehe. The story is fascinating, it really is. The more you look into it, i gotta go with Ray himself saying that they never got a chance to find out!

    Good band. Ever hear Micheal Omartain n his 70s prog rock like the jazzy upbeat Alive And Well ? Or the slower dreamy mastalgia stuff. ? He was even used as keyboardist on Steely Dan songs here n there and as a producer gave many bands their unique sound .

    i heard the album recently and.... i found it to be very generic of everything that was going in the 1990s as well as the fact that it's a really dull album. not because of ray wilson but mainly because of tony banks and mike rutherford as they were really unsure of what to do.

    • @JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories
      @JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories  4 месяца назад

      It sounds like the late 1990s yes, but trust me, the story is worth telling, i took my time to compile everything into an entertaining program!
