Bob Barker had a symbotic marriage with Dorothy Jo that influenced everything he did . His public image being a ladies man was not his private person . In the language of the TV show Gilligans Island to illustrate. His public image was to be married to a glamourous Ginger type , nightlife and various events . His private person was married to a Mary Ann type , low key , stay at home and eat home cooking . When I heard that Dorothy Jo scubbed her floors on her knees with a scub brush when they could easily afford to hire someone to do that told me a lot . Down to earth type people who never left the midwest .
Barker interviews usually mention animal rights. They're shown with dogs here, but I guess Barker hadn't started his crusades here, but by the time his wife died four years later, he had.
Dorothy Jo was blessed to be in Bob Barker's life. May she #RIP. Also, Barker, before he would be confined in his house, surrounded by his girlfriend and a caregiver, is a "super private person", who really hated socializing and/or attending parties in Hollywood.
Interesting to note that these monthly CBS daytime specials with Sharon Lovejoy preempted and or cut Price is Right to a 30 minute show in the late 70s when TPIR aired at 10-11AM EST and later at 10:30-11:30AM EST. it moved to its current 11AM time slot in April 1979.
Hopefully one of those days via studio master quality we will see a half-hour show from this time frame and whether if they took a commercial break during the showcase compared to the hour long shows where they were against that practice as well as syndicated half-hour shows.
I did not like this Magazine show because it pre-empted The Price is Right. Example: Jan 31 1978 I got a dreadful tonsillectomy and was looking forward to TPIR the next day, before I was discharged. Instead...Feb. Magazine was on and I was mad. This made my terrible hospital experience even worse!
Well, don't feel too bad - TPIR did come on but it was only a half-hour episode due to the February Magazine that year. So you still got The Price is Right - it just wasn't a full hour that day. They did that on occasion when a Magazine show happened on CBS at the time.
😎 Mane wen that black lady won the car then she jumpn hugn him, first moment one he didn't like that that looks bad Com'on now 1 laugh she did win a car. Didn matter he didn look no way laughn that saids a lot WATCH IT.
That man and Price is Right are just MAGIC together. A true, classy showman.
this is a good behind the scenes of what goes down on the day of taping with the host point of view
I feel bad he's been without his Dorothy Jo for so long. Almost 40 years.
I know. I wish she had lived to be 99 along with him. ❤
She was his one true love
Bob Barker wife was very pretty..this was first time I actually saw her
