    You don't even know how refreshing it is to someone like me that grew up with this music, to see a young persons reaction. I think many younger folks are starting to discover the talent and magic of the previous generation. To see you actually appreciate it is so special.

    A song about that very real shame in life: nice guy who fell in love in with some woman from the past, but she never felt a thing. And he will not win her over. But he kind of con’s himself into believing it’s real anyway, Sad and real.

    Great song. One of my favorites as a little kid.
    Michael McDonald has one of the most iconic voices ever. Nobody sounds like him. I still have no idea how he does it LOL

    Check our some of the earlier Vocalist with the Doobie Brothers early songs. Tom Johnston and Patrick Simmons vocals sound bluesy and funky! Songs are Another Park Another Sunday, Black Water, Jesus Is Just Alright, Sweet Feeling, China Grove, South City Midnight Lady, Long Train Running, Listen To The Music. Lit!✌

    • @c-mancleveland4632

      Ones I think you will love and put on your playlist from Brent's list here, Black Water, Long Train Running and Listen To The Music. The other songs are fire too, I especially like Jesus Is Just Alright for example. So maybe do the one's I pointed out last, and do the other ones first, sort of save the best for last. I'm going off of the things I've seen you go crazy over (Bee Gees, etc), you will like all of them for sure though.

    • @markthegunplumber8376

      I think anything pre Micheal McDonald is better. I think they really lost their identity when he came to the band and there was also some inside feuding between the members over Michaels change to their music etc. they went from a bluesey biker bard band to a Dan Fogelberg and Tim Wiseberg, Loggins and Messina, Michael Martin Murphy vibe during that period.

    • @c-mancleveland4632
      @c-mancleveland4632 3 года назад +4

      @@markthegunplumber8376 eh... The reason they put Michael McDonald as lead originally was because Tom Johnston was sick. With Michael at the forefront, they started hitting the charts and growing as if a hot new band hit the scene (remember, it was a 10 year band). Tom says he felt disconnected (I read it as unimportant, and I get it), he was more blues, rock oriented, like Little Richard emotion, where it become more subdued as you say. He respected the hell out of the music, and felt Michael was doing a great job. Their wasn't a huge amount of drama. The whole band wanted him to stay, and he did back up and sang, but his heart just wasn't in it and they all, including himself, seen it. They are all back together now, even Michael plays with them pretty regularly.

    • @matthewdropco
      @matthewdropco 3 года назад +1

      Yeah, personally, I appreciate who the Doobies were, and who they became with Michael. Who knows, aside from their great tunes pre-Michael would they have as many (not saying none, because obviously all the pre-michael fans that really only like that era,) fans still listening today? I think the band as a whole was better in the long run from his addition. They really made mega-status I think with him in it, and we'll be listening to the Doobies for years to come. Another band that "I" didn't know had a different line-up was REO Speedwagen. I've not listened to too much of it, but I think they were kinda a biker band-ish type of group too. With Kevin Cronin, they became really big. Although I think Journey had 2 lead singers the whole time (I could be wrong.) Steve Perry being put more and more as the lead resulted in a string of hits. I feel we are all lucky to have had so many great bands to listen to over the years into today. Nothing against new tunes, we are just lucky for all of it.

    The guitarist at 3:14 is a natural genius. While in the band he wrote a thesis on missile defense systems to the government on his Tandy personal computer and was hired as a missile defense consultant by the government. He had no prior training or educational experience on the subject, he just took an interest in missile defense by reading books at the library. He's like a savant, or polymath and auto-didactic high IQ free spirit. He is also one of the best guitarist of his day who personally brought in Michael McDonald into the band to replace the original lead singer from health complications.

    You can hear him again with the Doobie Brothers on, Minute by Minute. His best solo effort is still aching self remainder of lost love "I Keep Forgetting". You can also hear his masterful echo in the background of the Christopher Cross classic "Ride Like the Wind" or the sharp curving groove of "Time Out of Mind" by Steely Dan. And let's not forget his gorgeous vocal with Patti Labelle on the duet "On My Own". These are all great songs and remind us that you can still be effectively seductive even from the background.

    This was a great Band that started way back in 1972, when music was real. All of the music from the 60s and 70s was great. Motown, Rock, R&B it was all fantastic, and there were so many Bands and artists and so much music coming out every week, you couldn't keep up with it, and I'm not kidding either. That was a great time to be a young man or woman. the music today is pretty bad for the most part. Guess I was spoiled .
