    When I want clear strong objective experienced advice for plants this is top tier. Been using a lot of DG (actually crushed granite) lava and other 'sands' mixed with fine native loam, for my avocado plantings and other sub-tropicals over last 20 months, largely based on Gary's instruction, they've been mostly thriving. Mulching mostly with wood chips, leaves, etc., at least several inches deep.

      Pro trick: you can watch movies on instaflixxer. I've been using it for watching all kinds of movies during the lockdown.

    How would you compare an airlayered Lychee/longan to a grafted lychee/longan in terms of productivity & being quicker to bear fruit.

    Do I need acidic soil for lychee plant?

    Lychee fruit trees don't like much nitrogen, it will burn the leaves, use very little nitrogen. They like lots of sun to produce flowers.
    My lychee is only 2 years old and is 5' tall by 4' wide. Also Longan is much taller than 6' tall by 3' wide, there is lots of variety of lychees fruit trees. I'm in Florida on the west side in Parrish.

    hard to hear the customer questions My longan fruit are super small. Once you break the shell on the fruit, its all seed with just a thin film of fruit. Any tips?

    • @Mrbfgray
      @Mrbfgray 3 года назад +3

      Graft or get a different variety, pardon butting in but he doesn't seem to reply here often. Pretty sure (as an amateur gardener no experience with longans) that's a genetic condition.

    Do Lychee have chill requirements?

    • @GarysBestGardening
      @GarysBestGardening  2 года назад

      It does seem like they require a bit of chill. The literature states that they rarely fruit in truly tropical climates. Most locations where they perform well have periods below 55 degrees F. in winter. Winter "chill" is best defined as accumulated hours between 34 degrees and 55 degrees F., not 34 to 45 degrees as listed often.

    Hi. I’m interested in planting a lychee tree. But I live in Dallas TX. My question is can it be grown successfully in ground here in Dallas TX? Winter below 25 degree sometimes and heat can be over 100 degree. Will it live and bear fruit? Thanks

      jon ng I doubt it. Can you grow oranges and avocados? Litchi are less hardy than these. I see damage at 30f

      In Dallas you have to be able to move the citrus into the garage, greenhouse or garden shed for the winter. Mine have been growing for over 3 years with the current ones I have.
