This build is brilliant. Being your first time at wood working you nailed it. One of the trickiest things of building a system like this is how to make it multifunctional. Having the section fold to be able to store when back seats needed is genius
Well done! As the father of 5 girls I often tel them you don't need to be able to wee standing up to do just about everything in life; just use the brains you have and think it through. You did a solid job, Sarah.
Well done Sarah - Connor has a smart, creative and practical partner - here in Australia I’ve owned many Subaru wagons but found the Forester the best for headroom when camping and I amazed my friends when they needed to transport a refrigerator or small wardrobe - I was impressed with your OH&S approach to protecting your hands and most importantly your eyes as it frightens me to see a lot of RUclipsrs neglecting their precious assets - the impact of lost vision is a life changer no one needs - enjoy your next Subaru project.
Thanks for this! Used your design and it worked out great. One addition we found from a friend that I thought I'd mention: They made a little carve out in the back left corner, where the DC outlet is. Then they put a Jackery handheld power bank (battery) in that spot, and plugged it in.... then ran cables to charge phones from that up toward the front. The Jackery battery charged while you're driving and basically stayed at 100%. Then you can just have power for phones & laptops when you're snuggled up in bed. This was a great video and totally perfect measurements! Worked out great. THANK YOU!
Just got a 2020 Subaru Forester and I like your idea for a build. Love it in fact! I wouldn't want to take out the seats but instead have a little room for storage containers and such. The video was well done too and I'm glad everything went so well!
Sarah, I know we don't know each other (you live in the USA and me the 🇬🇧) but what you achieved with this project you should be extremely proud of yourself... Well done you 👏 👍
I really really like the mattress pad! It fits great, is super fast to set up and comfortable for the thickness. Search Heyoh Automatic SUV air Mattress on Amazon.
Really great design and build, Sarah! Glad I found your channel! We just bought a new 2022 Forester so I'm gathering all kinds of ideas for camping from channels like yours! Thank you! Liked and subscribed!
Thanks for this, I'm building mine this week and wanted to get a better idea, so this was very helpful. I will probably not super worry about being exactly level. As it is a car so you might not always be parked on level ground.
Very nice! One heck of a job. Neat as can be. Thanks for including dimensions and cut patterns. I'm researching my build for my wife's 2021 Outback. I have so many notes and sketches, it's beginning to get confusing. Your build is so close to what I am looking to do, albeit not as tall. Well done!
this is so smart im going to do measurements in my forester because its a different generation than yours but it seems like it'll fit the same size platform as yours.
What a great job for something you intended to build in a day! Very simple and effective design. At 8:53 I noticed that the two main pieces don't quite level out. I am thinking of latching those two pieces together from the underside. Probably would epoxy the ply to keep it water resistant.
The two pieces do have to be in just the right spot on the seats to align. Also, if they move out of alignment, the mattress pad I got definitely makes that more forgiving and it wasn’t noticeable as we slept. But that is a finicky area.
Hi Sarah!! Love your video :) I am searching how to camp out of my 2015 forester as well AND be able to take my toddler! Your build is fantastic. Hats off to you and thank you for the great ideas. Is there anything you’d change or recommend further for the cut’s? I want to go off your dimensions since same vehicle! I appreciate you and your an amazing wood worker from my point of view :)
I hope you see this comment (a year after your original video). I have never seen the strap on the front seat headrest, love it! Now that you have used it for a bit, do you feel like it still holds up okay?
Looks great, awesome idea with the top piece being adjustable. Would you mind sharing the dimensions? My forester is a 2015, trying to to the same. Thanks!
How long is the platform, when all laid out? My partner is 6 ft tall, so he'd need like 6'2" or so to be comfortable sleeping. Looks like the platform is about 73". Is there a little extra room than that, or does that come right up against the back of the car?
Awesome video! Those Subarus are great platforms for camping! I just got done building my camper setup in the bed of my truck. You'll have to check it out on my channel! Keep up with the awesome content!
It shifts a small amount because there is a little lip on the forester where the seats fold down, however it’s not enough to notice when you have a sleeping pad down. We may be trading in our forester for a newer car soon and I wouldn’t change the build at all if I did it again for the new car.
Definitely! I can sit up but it’s very tight. It’s worth it to me to have room for my supplies and also be able to fit a second person sleeping, however you could do a single bed and side storage to save head room.
This is so special. Learning new skills, trying new projects, AND surprising your husband with a finished product? Amazing!

Nicely Done! Conner is a lucky man.
Well done! As the father of 5 girls I often tel them you don't need to be able to wee standing up to do just about everything in life; just use the brains you have and think it through. You did a solid job, Sarah.
Impressive job, especially for someone with no woodworking experience
Excellent job, great video , sweet surprise :)

Fantastic! Love the addition of the battery.
Great build, awesome surprise for the husband. You should be very proud of your new skills, keep up with the building.
The clips idea is genious, you really save on space !
What a great job! Very impressive. Love the simplicity and practicality of this.
Thank you for this!! So simple and effective, I’m going to be trying to build out my forester this spring!

Thanks Joe! I’ve been on around 10 little trips using this setup now and we still love it!
@@YellowElevenPhoto you're welcome! I'm glad you're enjoying it still!
You go ! Great job and great video.

What can be said, but great job. Found my next project.
Great idea, I just got a 2010 Forester now I got an idea of what to try . Thanks
Wow... an awesome job! Well done!
wow love this setup it was clean and fuctional.. thank you for sharing sarah!
You did a great job, especially with having no experience with wood working or power tools. That really turned out great!!
Thank you for posting the measurements!! Subbed
Well done! I like the mattress pad, I will look for that and good thinking on being able to adjust the headrest/pillows!

Good luck with your build! I hope you love it!
Looks great. Would like to do something similar …. How’s the headroom and how easy is it getting in and out?
Awesome!!

Thamk you from KSA.
I really like how this turned out. One of the best designs I have seen. Do you have any measurements you can share?
Building this today that's for the video +layout

Yes it’s been great! I can even adjust it to sit me up a bit if I want to read or lay flat for sleeping. :)
Good Job! I went Luno, but this is really nice. You got a ton of storage space, didn't heavily modify the car and the build looks pretty simple!
Hi Sarah, love the headrest idea, really amazing job!!
Can you please tell the dimensions of the 3 different platforms?
Top demais .. parabéns. Vc e incrível.. eu também estou fazendo o meu mini motor home
Looks great, awesome idea with the top piece being adjustable. Would you mind sharing the dimensions? My forester is a 2015, trying to to the same. Thanks!
At 0:16 in I have the plan I made and used on the screen. That should have all the dimensions!
Can the windows be closed completely at night without ventilation problems?.

That’s really about all the room there is because with it folded all the way out the front seats have to be moved all the way forward. Yes it’s 73”.
Awesome video! Those Subarus are great platforms for camping! I just got done building my camper setup in the bed of my truck. You'll have to check it out on my channel! Keep up with the awesome content!
Do you have the link for the pad that you bought from Amazon?
Sorry for the late response. In case it’s still helpful: Heyoh Automatic SUV air Mattress,... www.amazon.com/dp/B08LZRRXXX?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
How has it worked out that the two big parts are not connected? Do they keep together?
It shifts a small amount because there is a little lip on the forester where the seats fold down, however it’s not enough to notice when you have a sleeping pad down. We may be trading in our forester for a newer car soon and I wouldn’t change the build at all if I did it again for the new car.
saya suka video ini kakak, saya mau buat yang sama juga ah
On the other hand it’s Loosing head room for sitting in bed 😢
Definitely! I can sit up but it’s very tight. It’s worth it to me to have room for my supplies and also be able to fit a second person sleeping, however you could do a single bed and side storage to save head room.
nice setup check mine when you have the chance
