I first went to Fez in 1972, I was 18 years old and it was quite an experience, went there again a few years ago and the Medina had hardly changed, it is like walking back in time to the Middle Ages. After spending some time in Fez I had an amazing trip to the Atlas Mountains and traveled and camped with a Berber tribe, yet more amazing experiences, sleeping under the stars in the desert riding on Camels. Do you plan on going into the desert, there are many trekking groups you could join?
I am LOVING this Morocco series. So want to go to Fez now. Fascinating. I've been to Marrakech and Essaouria but so want to see all the art deco area in Casablance as well as Fez now..infact so many places in Morocco!! I love your guides as you have little ego so it truly highlights the experience you're open not jaded and enjoy history and the simple joys which is what i enjoy too. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
I walked the same streets you did, and seeing it in video does not do justice as seeing it in person. I love Fez and will be returning soon to enjoy the many cups of tea and many dishes of Tajine.
Hey Gabriel, you find more dead ends than anyone I know. Lol I find it fascinating that you do exactly what I used to do. Back when I was young in the 60's and 70's I found if you look like you knew what you were doing noone would question you. My old traveling buddy would get into some very private places and no one would even question us. There were a few times we were told to leave but it was always politely done. I have the feeling that you are feeling more comfortable in Fez than the previous city's, me too. You don't have all the people offering to show you places or trying to get money out of you. I understand that they are just trying to make a living but when you say no to one person and take two steps and another person is doing the same thing to you it must be getting to you. I am looking forward to your next video my friend. It's always a pleasure seeing it pop up on my phone.
Thank you for showing this impressive coverage, you definitely visited an amazing place, this city has a lots of past histories to know and cool architecture to see around.
Absolutely an educational channel, learning so much just through watching it, the history, culture, location, geography, etc. Amazing! He takes all of us to the world of cultures
Amazing place.. fantastic video.. so special I think. I happened to be there long time ago. 1966. I was a young man, 22 years old. Yeah fascinating indeed. We’ll have it good brother. Enjoy watching you travel around the World. Big respect to you what your doing. And doing it with real style. Thanks for some well appreciated memories from my youth that you brought me. Yeah I traveled from Morocco to Cairo.. and then continued other places. Take care then and keep on rolling brother. Super good video this one.
I’m loving this Morocco series, Gabe. Thanks. Such an interesting contrast to your Europe travels this summer. Hare you having any challenges with the language barrier?

I appreciate your videos so much, Gabriel. I found your channel a while ago and, like many others, have been silently stalking you ever since! I love that you approach things completely without ego. You come across as down-to-Earth, humble, and without judgement. You admit when you make mistakes or when things don't go so well, you admit that you don't know everything about a place and you're willing to learn. And yet, there is a quiet sense of experience and confidence about you. As an English teacher, I love that you are so well spoken with an outstanding vocabulary :p I love your 'boots-on-the-ground' approach to filming. And the sense of wonder that emanates from you when you're in a new place is really heartwarming. Right now especially, you're a breath of fresh air for someone living in the state of Western Australia where our borders are locked tight because of this darn pandemic. I look forward to bumping into you somewhere and buying you a beer. Thank you :-)
Gabriel? I'm curious to know if anyone has approached you about doing a documentary about you and your travels. Your videos are so in-depth, they should be shown as educational videos. These videos about Morocco, are just amazing and meticulous in detail, that geography and history teachers, should require them for their classes. You should win an Emmy.
30:33 Some scenes from the movie Indiana Jones 6 filmed in Fez. You will be amazed to learn that some of the famous movies and series were shot in Morocco: Kingdom of heaven Gladiator Game of thrones Babel The Hills have eyes The Mummy Prison break Mission impossible and others...

You have just walked past me in your next destination!! I wont spoil where you are going next , Hope you are enjoying the amazing location and Morocco in general , its such an incredible place - i came for a month and am still up in the Rif 9 weeks later !!
So far I am liking Fez better than Meknes from what you have shown us. But I am wondering if you returned again to the Jewish Quarter as I would assume that one would see some Star of Davids or a nice old synagogue there since you mentioned it is considered a UNESCO World Heritage site.
I visited Fez in 1970 while a teenager with my parents and sister. We saw alot of donkeys and carts in the streets; not so many cars. My father, sister and I went to the Medina and my father got separated from us in the haze of mazes! My sister and I spent about 15 minutes of panic trying to find my dad. He was a tall large African American so eventually we spotted him! Whew! I loved visiting Morocco and enjoy your videos very much. Thank-you!
Wow! Fez is unbelievably beautiful!. I'm SO glad you're there! The colors, the people the sounds....(what was up with that whistle guy)? I was SO anxious when you were "lost" in the maze of alleys while the sun was going down. You are SO brave! And I always wonder Gabe, how on earth do you find your way back to your lodging? Especially when Google Maps is not very precise, as in this case.
Can't wait to head to Morocco in July! What I would like to know is what it is like with the pandemic in Morocco currently. I know what it's still a while away but wanted to know what the experience of shopping, going to restaurants, cafés, travelling around the country etc. was like.
Things are basically completely normal. Masks aren't required hardly anywhere. I just spent a week in Chefchaoen and didn't wear a mask the entire time.
I love the plates at the restaurant! When I purchased my DJI Osmo Action camera I did buy the oe charger with 2 spare batteries as well. They came with small plastic boxes to carrie with you. Very convenient when you're out and filming.
I really hope you make it to that castle/fort off in the distance on the mountain top (not that there's anything wrong with exploring around the fascinating city realms either).
Gabriel, at 25:36 you coincidentally had passed by your tour guide. The guy that you paid to show you to your hotel room when you arrived to Morocco. He was looking at the dog and so he didn't see you.

Just like with Turkey being more Anatolian than Turkish, I think almost all Moroccans are at least partly of native origins, ie. arabised berbers. So you can’t really say the berbers were there first then came the Arabs. It’s the same with countries like Egypt. The DNA haven’t changed that much since the Iron Age.
That's right, studies have shown that all Moroccans are predominantly of Berber ethnicity (70% of their DNA) with a mix of Arab, South European and West African ethnicity for the remaining 30%.
The barriers, barricades and the special equipment that you filmed near the royal palace, are there because of the shooting of the “Indiana Jones 5” with Harrison Ford
Hey Gabe, loving the videos in Morroco. I'm here in Malaga Spain making content and keep in mind the Ferry runs from Ceuta or Melilla (Spanish autonomous cities in continental Africa) to Malaga for only 30 something Euros or you can catch the ferry from Tangiers (Morocco) to Tarifa/Algeciras (Spain). There's much faster internet here :D Take care mate
@@GabrielTravelerVideos looks like the route to Gibraltar is still suspended.. however, I keep finding daily ferry trips (with omio app) from both Ceuta and Melilla to mainland Spain (Algeciras, tarifa, malaga, Almería) etc .. it seems like Morocco and Spain can’t seem to figure things out right now for political and health reasons. I’m sure you already thought about going to Spain but it still hasn’t been 90 days since you left the EU so that’s why you wanted Gibraltar. Makes sense. I hope you find a solution or buy some time.
Hi Gabriel, Those narrow are incredibly confusing to navigate around I think the natives know this and realize they have to guide them around which is why they approach foreigners because most if not all get lost.
Yes, it is challenging to navigate. But it is fun to figure it out on your own. The unwanted hustler guides charge you as you can see in Gabe's previous three videos on Morocco.
Awesome as always! Perfect lunch break viewing, though recently while watching you, it gets me to thinking have I been wasting my life on the 9-5 hamster wheel 😂 Great couscous choice, really enjoyed one of those Royales in Essaouira 😋
fun fact: Turkey still calls Morocco Fez as it was the capital at some point in history. the rest of the world call the country Morocco which comes from the name Marrakech (land of God in the amazigh language)
another fun fact : Iran and a few countries in West Asia calls Morocco 'Marrakech' as it was the capital city under some dynasties. Actually, many languages have their own specific name for Morocco depending on which period of the history they were in contact with the country.
Great video - watching from Japan and t is really striking in all these Morocco videos at how few people are wearing masks even in crowded areas. Is the Covid situation relatively good there or are people just less cautious?
You did good on the video. Yes they seem a tiny bit more aggressive in sales. Could be because of post covid start. If you are still in that area...make sure you get a glass of tea filled with the fresh tea leaves. You went to the best location for the tannery. We also bought nothing there.
Tanger is the best city in life quality and food, it has also a beach that is mediteranean sea and atlantic at the same time. Tanger medina is the best medina in morocco (although small).
"What a door, hardcore." 😆 Spontaneous rhymes are the best. 😀😊 Fes is really cool except for me, it wasn't really good walking where there was food around because as a vegan I just couldn't be there for long.. But I survived no matter the fact that Morocco ain't that vegan country.😅
I read on the lady's dress: " life is so much easier when you just chill out "; that's a reflection of life in Morocco. I can't wait to visit.
These videos are criminally under watched.

Medina of Fez is the largest maze I have ever been to. It has more than 9000 alleys, not an easy place to find the way out.
well it is technically the largest maze in the world
Fez seems like an incredible town. It would be so easy to get lost in the maze of paths through town. This is an awesome series. Thank you!
