    I first went to Fez in 1972, I was 18 years old and it was quite an experience, went there again a few years ago and the Medina had hardly changed, it is like walking back in time to the Middle Ages. After spending some time in Fez I had an amazing trip to the Atlas Mountains and traveled and camped with a Berber tribe, yet more amazing experiences, sleeping under the stars in the desert riding on Camels. Do you plan on going into the desert, there are many trekking groups you could join?

    Hey Gabriel, you find more dead ends than anyone I know. Lol I find it fascinating that you do exactly what I used to do. Back when I was young in the 60's and 70's I found if you look like you knew what you were doing noone would question you. My old traveling buddy would get into some very private places and no one would even question us. There were a few times we were told to leave but it was always politely done.
    I have the feeling that you are feeling more comfortable in Fez than the previous city's, me too. You don't have all the people offering to show you places or trying to get money out of you. I understand that they are just trying to make a living but when you say no to one person and take two steps and another person is doing the same thing to you it must be getting to you.
    I am looking forward to your next video my friend. It's always a pleasure seeing it pop up on my phone.

    Just like with Turkey being more Anatolian than Turkish, I think almost all Moroccans are at least partly of native origins, ie. arabised berbers. So you can’t really say the berbers were there first then came the Arabs. It’s the same with countries like Egypt. The DNA haven’t changed that much since the Iron Age.

    • @moroccanurbanmusic833
      @moroccanurbanmusic833 2 года назад

      That's right, studies have shown that all Moroccans are predominantly of Berber ethnicity (70% of their DNA) with a mix of Arab, South European and West African ethnicity for the remaining 30%.

I'm here in Malaga Spain making content and keep in mind the Ferry runs from Ceuta or Melilla (Spanish autonomous cities in continental Africa) to Malaga for only 30 something Euros or you can catch the ferry from Tangiers (Morocco) to Tarifa/Algeciras (Spain). There's much faster internet here :D Take care mate

      @@GabrielTravelerVideos looks like the route to Gibraltar is still suspended.. however, I keep finding daily ferry trips (with omio app) from both Ceuta and Melilla to mainland Spain (Algeciras, tarifa, malaga, Almería) etc .. it seems like Morocco and Spain can’t seem to figure things out right now for political and health reasons. I’m sure you already thought about going to Spain but it still hasn’t been 90 days since you left the EU so that’s why you wanted Gibraltar. Makes sense. I hope you find a solution or buy some time.

    I appreciate your videos so much, Gabriel. I found your channel a while ago and, like many others, have been silently stalking you ever since! I love that you approach things completely without ego. You come across as down-to-Earth, humble, and without judgement. You admit when you make mistakes or when things don't go so well, you admit that you don't know everything about a place and you're willing to learn. And yet, there is a quiet sense of experience and confidence about you. As an English teacher, I love that you are so well spoken with an outstanding vocabulary :p I love your 'boots-on-the-ground' approach to filming. And the sense of wonder that emanates from you when you're in a new place is really heartwarming. Right now especially, you're a breath of fresh air for someone living in the state of Western Australia where our borders are locked tight because of this darn pandemic. I look forward to bumping into you somewhere and buying you a beer. Thank you :-)

    When going to the city of Fez, it is necessary to visit its historical monuments, such as the Qarawiyyin Mosque, the Qarawiyyin University, al medrasa Bouanania , medrasa al Attarine , medrasa al Sahrij , medrasa al Sharatine , and medrasa al Misbahiya , all of which were built in the 14th century AD.
    You can also visit other landmarks such as Al-Muqri Palace, Al-Batt,ha Museum, Dar basha Al-Ghalawi, Borj Al-Shamal in Fez, or a traditional arms museum, the place where leather is made in traditional ways, and the place where furniture is made by hand, and watch the craftsmen engraving on cedar wood and gypsum by hand and watch. Artisans and they make zellij!
    Even in the narrow neighborhoods that I passed through, there are palaces inside, called Riyadh, with distinctive architecture!
    You visited Fez, but you were not able to discover its secrets.

    fun fact: Turkey still calls Morocco Fez as it was the capital at some point in history. the rest of the world call the country Morocco which comes from the name Marrakech (land of God in the amazigh language)

      another fun fact : Iran and a few countries in West Asia calls Morocco 'Marrakech' as it was the capital city under some dynasties. Actually, many languages have their own specific name for Morocco depending on which period of the history they were in contact with the country.

    Great video - watching from Japan and t is really striking in all these Morocco videos at how few people are wearing masks even in crowded areas. Is the Covid situation relatively good there or are people just less cautious?

    Hi Gabriel, Those narrow are incredibly confusing to navigate around I think the natives know this and realize they have to guide them around which is why they approach foreigners because most if not all get lost.

    • @letsexploreandtravelonadis6424
      @letsexploreandtravelonadis6424 2 года назад

      Yes, it is challenging to navigate. But it is fun to figure it out on your own. The unwanted hustler guides charge you as you can see in Gabe's previous three videos on Morocco.

    I liked both Marrakesh and Fez but did see more interesting things in Fez. I took a tour to Ifrane and up in the mountains to see the Macaques. The Riad's dont seem as nice to me and the people are less friendly.

    Maybe a dumb question, but how are you handling laundry over there? Going there for a few weeks in January and was planning on just buying some detergent and washing in my sink every couple of night so I pack light.

    • @hesback-joeysworldtourytpm967
      @hesback-joeysworldtourytpm967 2 года назад +1

      Lol 🤭 I am sure there are automated laundry facilities in Fes or in that hotel even if it is an ancient city and civilization; we are living in the 21 century after all, and just about every where in the world you can find modern amenities, especially in major cities of the world. Looks of a town and or city can be deceiving.

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  2 года назад

      Just washing a few things in the sink or shower will work for a while. At some point you might want to find somewhere to wash clothes for real. Just depends on where you are and what you find. You can always ask at your hotel and they'll probably know somewhere where you can wash things yourself or drop off and pick up later.

    • @moneyball32
      @moneyball32 2 года назад +1

      @@hesback-joeysworldtourytpm967 I ask because people that have been say don’t typically have laundromats and most people have to ask the Riads to wash them for you. Not as silly as it sounds once you look into it.
