- Classic live performance of 'The Boomtown Rats - Drag Me Down' live at Hammersmith Odeon, 1978. Bob Geldof's new album 'How To Compose Popular Songs That Will Sell' is available here: zaphod.uk.vvhp.net/v-v/1102211.... Taken from the 'On Film 1976-1986: Someone's Looking At You' DVD
A massively underrated song. I loved the Rats from their 1st Album to their last, before their split. Such a shame Johnny Fingers & Gerry Cott aren’t touring with them these days.
It is a shame all 6 would be great as I never saw Gerry play, by the time I was old enough to go to concerts he had left. They should bury the hatchet ( so to speak ) and do a final tour, nostalgia - why not ?.
@@Paul-11 I completely agree Paul. Life is too short. Yes, when I first saw them, Cott had gone. Excellent guitarist.
@ Dave . 2nd May 1982 St George's Hall, Bradford. My first gig, got a pic of Bob that night in a pink t-shirt. Just 30 year old. Still got entry ticket. When was yours Dave ?.
@@Paul-11 June 1983 at Birmingham University. Mind blowing despite the low key venue.
@@davejackson8455 That's good memories, The university circuit that year and I went to the Bradford one, still got the orange billboard poster I helped myself to haha.
I think I saw this first at The Lyceum Theatre in Sheffield with fledgeling 'The Alarm' as support. I honestly think The Alarm were better on the night. Big guitar, drums and vocals and an immediate star quality. The Rats seemed to be field trialling mostly new and 'brass heavy' tracks and me and my mate thought The Rats were a Brighouse and Rastrict Brass Band tribute act in comparison. The Rats early stuff was the best, mind.
Loved the Rats from their early days through to when they split. It may well have been uncool to follow the Rats in their later years but, their tours were always sold out!!
Same !!
rock and roll yeah

Drag me Down reached 50 in 1984 in the UK. Good video (elsewhere on You Tube) but times had changed and despite being one of their better later tracks, liking the Rats after 1981 was uncool in the UK. This was from their Spring 1985 tour.
Yes, the excellent single Elephants Graveyard in Feb 81 seemed to mark the start of the decline. Drag Me Down was the one that got away, should have been a much bigger hit, it went down very well at Live Aid in July 85. Dave was also a superb song also from the parent album, In The Long Grass.
@plasticspastic201 I agree. At least six years astray.
😍 ♡
I doubt this was in 1978 as it was not even released until 1984.
In the long grass , was the last album before they split ! Not 1978 !
1978???
I think this band roves that you dont have to be able to sing to make good music
rock and roll yeah
