  • November 11, 2004 - Standing at just 5-foot-5, Eastern Michigan legend Earl Boykins put on a show against the Detroit Pistons, becoming the shortest player in NBA history to score 30 points, finishing with 32 altogether in a 117-109 Denver Nuggets win. Connecting on a 11-of-15 shots from the floor, Boykins' performance was a mere preview of what was to come, as he set new career highs in 2006 (33) and 2007 (36 as a member of the Milwaukee Bucks).
Boykins played 13 years of NBA basketball, likely peaking in 2007 when he averaged 14.6 points per game while shooting 39.7 percent from three.

If you’re as short as Earl Boykins and can score 30+ in the greatest Basketball League in the world against 7ft+ giants, you are a fantastically great basketball player. Imagine what you could do if you were 6ft8

@Salt Meister naw, or else there would be a ton of short guys in the league from the same pressure . Give the guy credit he is highly skilled and would be even more skilled if taller. None of us know his motivations. Just like we don’t know Kareem or Wilts or Bills motivation and they were taller then most players

So crazy, I remember I went to a Nuggets game and they had these basketball molds next to concessions that the players stuck their hands into so you can compare your hand size to the active players. I was probably 12 or 13 and put my hand in Boykins mold and my hand was still larger than his. Dude was a beast.

Gilbert Arenas was speaking to how early in his career he played with Earl Boykins.
He says they played the Pistons and Boykins was getting these aggressive ovations and he (Gil) asked Boykins what was that about.
Boykins told Gil that he played at Eastern Michigan University so the fans were familiar… Gil asked Boykins was he a decent player and Boykins humbly said that he was an alright college player.
Gil says he couldn’t help but look up Boykins’s stats and was mind blown away by how dominant Boykins was and the fact that he was humble about it.
