Been looking at this line recently and there is not much info out there for it. I currently use the Rio gold with my new sage r8 5wt …… is this line really no good with dries at all?
Hi, the RIO Gold is a great all around floating line. The Stillwater Floater I helped develop is best suited to casting complex indicator rigs and long leaders in excess of 15 feet. Due to its aggressive front taper the Stillwater Floater the ant the best line for casting dries as it would tend to land heavy and potentially spook fish. I hope this helps. If you have any other questions please don’t hesitate to ask. Cheers, Phil
Hey Phil, I recently learned about the clean sweep lines due to a local fly shop running a closeout sale. Are they worth buying if they are being all but phased out roughly 2 years later?
Hi. The Clean Sweep lines have not been discontinued by RIO. The shop perhaps decided not to stock them anymore for some reason. They are great lines and I use them a lot when prospecting deep water and when using Loch style techniques. Cheers Phil.
Phil How does the stillwater line float? The old indicator line (white in color) floated like a cork but I have been less than impressed any other floating Rio lines for stillwater use. Thanks
Hi, I now have the new Elite Series Stillwater Floater and love it. I have had no issues with its floatation. I freely admit to being a bit biased with this line as I helped design it.😊 Cheers, Phil
@@PhilRowleyFlyFishing Regarding both the InTouch floater (in this video) and the new Elite Stillwater floater, are they designed as a heavier line than the standard AFTM line weight? If so, are they 1/2 or full line weight heavier than a Rio Gold? I have a medium action 7 wt rod (9'6" Hardy Shadow) and wonder how these lines will handle it. Currently using the Rio Grand InTouch and it is too heavy for this rod. Thank you!
@@floydk2813 Hi Floyd, the head section on the Stillwater Floater is actually two-line weights above the AFTMA standard. This was done to help managed complex indicator rigs and long leader setups. If your Hardy Shadow struggled with the RIO Grand it most likely would struggle with the Stillwater Floater. Perhaps your local fly shop might have one you could test cast to be sure. Cheers, Phil
Hi Greg, on the Stillwater Fly Fishing App we have a couple of dangling tips there. You can also get an idea of what we doing if you watch the Bomber Mayhem Vlog on my channel too, ruclips.net/video/UOQa7aBpN0c/видео.html. Cheers, Phil
