Installing Overpriced Carbon Duckbill On My 2020 WRX

- In this video I will be installing the 15+ wrx/sti JDMuscle Tanzo carbon V4 Duckbill. In my opinion this is one of the nicest looking duckbills on the market... but I could've got it for half the price of what I paid. I hope this video is helpful. Always check all of your options before purchasing something. Most of the parts you buy are just rebranded parts with a higher price tag, sometimes its worth it and sometimes its not. Keep your eye out.

I've been looking for something better than stock and this is the best one I've seen. Thanks for the valuable sourcing and install info. 99.9 percent of people will see it from the back or side. It looks great on your car.
Just a heads up I had some issues with fitment with this spoiler and ended up molding it to the trunk and painting it. So if you're thinking of getting it just be careful. Its definitely my favorite one on the market mine just had an awful gap in the center.
@@StreetInspired1 thanks for the heads up. I REALLY like this one for 2 reasons that set it apart form the rest. First, it has a lower rake or profile than most others. Second, the top edge is pretty much full width. In other words, the end corners are not extremely rounded off like so many others. That looks bad. Additionally, I do like this CF model (I have a silver '19 WRX Premium). Curious why you chose to paint yours because it looked good on your car?
@@747Durango I actually really only molded and painted it because I accidentally dropped my camera on my trunk and dented it so I was going to have to repaint the trunk anyways soni figured I would do something different.
@@StreetInspired1 OK. I'm going to review your videos again, use some fat 3M and maybe go for 2 screws.
Gorgeous bro! Did a good job installing it!
Pressure (and heat)...You need to apply more pressure for longer (and apply heat)...At least 30 seconds in each area for the tape to create a good bond...Did you clean/prep/claybar the area before install?..Use rags and weight to apply force in the center section on the trunk lid... Maybe JDM Muscle (JDMM) could have bought Burnz Auto (BA) stock as BA was going out of business and liquidating?..OR..JDMM is BA reincarnated...$250 + $30 in 3M tape doesn't sound like a bargain; just total cost redistributed among different areas, however still better than the OLM price.
Looking good!! I think I'm going this route too with a duckbill.
Just to help fill in - when burnz started going down they sold off a large quantity of their inventory. Jdmuscle and others bought some of it as they carry the same items, however it's weird to me they didn't pull out the burnz label though.
That makes sense. I sort of figured that's what happened. But like you said they opened it up to put their sticker in but left that in there lol
Definitely not a Subispeed fan. This part looks good to me. Nice work.
I use subispeed a good bit for stuff but usually I always check around first to make sure its a fair price. Thanks man!
i was definitely interested in getting one, but with that price and the small imperfections and drilling into the frame i’m not a fan
I agree, I like the look but I was hoping all I would have to do was use the factory holes in the trunk and 3m tape, now if I ever decide to take it off there will be holes in the trunk.
...with the spoiler mocked up (held in place with blue tape), raise the trunk lid and mark the spoiler through the 2 factory holes with a silver/gold marker/wax pencil....with the spoiler off the car, find the marked areas and affix a mechanical fastener or drill a pilot hole to accept a screw/bolt-washer...not hard, just time consuming 👍
This is the ONE thing I hate about modding cars; they build parts for cheap and sell them at ridiculous high marked up prices. I cant even begin to imagine how cheap it was for these manufacturers to make these duckbills.
I bought the ebay one and the quality is amazing I was surprised
also what exhaust are you running? thing is purring so nicely
At the time of this video I was running a 1320 catted J pipe and Remark Muffler Deletes
I really like that duckbill, looking forward to get one. Can you link or give me the specs of the double sided tape you used?
Duckbill gang it's true it's all the same .I never buy from these so called brands when it comes to aesthetic parts.
edit:i just say your emblems on the boot did you make that or buy the overlay/badge?
Your Rex is clean af
Thank you!!

Just wondering....I found the ebay offer in Taiwan. The product, price and delivery time look good to me except for the warnings about possible "import duties and taxes which buyers must pay and brokerage fees payable at the point of delivery." Is this really an issue or not likely?
Oh wow., I've never seen those disclaimers. That's enough to scare me out of a sale. I've ordered stuff from Taiwan and other countries and the price it was listed for was the only thing I had to pay. I would maybe message thr seller and see what they say about it.
@@StreetInspired1 that's a great idea, thanks. FWIW, the ebay buyer comments were real positive and they seem to be beating their lengthy shipping estimates. I will contact them.
So I ended up breaking both of those bolts holding on the oem lip. What can I do now?
If the bolts just snaped you should be able to just be able to pry up on the spoiler and pop it out. If the bolts are spinning and not coming out, that's the problem that I had. I used a plastic pry too to lift up on the spoiler while hitting the bolts with an impact and thats what got them free. The plastic inside the spoiler was spinning.
I’ve been wanting to get an eBay duckbill but it’s stupid the fact that the unpainted is $70 but the paint matched ranges from $150-$200
Not a terrible price depending how good the finish is. I paint cars for a living and most people would charge between $150 - 300 to paint a small spoiler like that. If you're feeling adventurous getting the $70 unfinished spoiler, a Red 3M scuff pad, a tack cloth, one paint matched aerosol can and one 2K urethane clearcoat aerosol and doing it yourself would probably save $30-70 and give ya a fun project!
@@StreetInspired1 I have to look more into finding the correct paint cause the ones I’ve seen are for the old wr blue but the new one from 15+ I believe has more pearl than the older models
@@RIVIMAX the world rally blue changed in 2013. So from 2013+ the code is K7X. The 13+ paint is a Tri-Stage paint with a pearl basecoat, a tinted candy coat, and then clearcoat. But it has been revised and you can get a basecoat version that doesn't require the tint coat on top but the color match might suffer a small amount.
@@StreetInspired1 ahh got it thanks so much now I actually understand what goes into the paint now cause I was kind of unsure
...why not buy some vinyl wrap...or, just paint it rattle can flat black, or bed liner black...does it have to match the car?
which roof "spoiler" is that?
OEM Vortex Generator
@@StreetInspired1 will definitely be my next mod since its so cheap!
Are those tail lights stock? With a wrap ok it?
Heres my video. I painted these. ruclips.net/video/1uVMZGiKnZk/видео.html
Nice car
Nice
I got my duckbill from Amazon shipping said 2 months came in a week and a half even had pre drilled threaded holes and came with a roll of 3m all for $150 don’t buy subispeed it’s over priced garbage
Damn maybe I should've went that route I'll have to just take the chance next time! Usually when it comes to the health of my engine I only run trusted parts but when it comes to cosmetics I'm all for the cheaper Ebay & Amazon stuff!
