    For those asking, Sam Long came out of the swim dead last, had to face a penalty and still put in the fastest bike and run of the day to finish second.
    Youri Keulen, the winner, was taken to hospital for checks after collapsing at the finish line (check out our highlights for the full race story).

And I’d disagree since they didn’t say “it’s huge he got second place after a 30s penalty” the announcer said “he knows how huge second place in this race is” so I’d assume just getting second place at all is extremly impressive in this race. Especially since a month prior he got the same place in a marathon that was probably as hard.

I've done it 2-3 times and the sole of your feet start hurting after only a kilometer and when you're done you have a big skin bubble on the sole/ball of your feet. I don't particularly mind it because it's a tolerable pain but I also don't run the distances an athlete does.

    For those wondering why he was so behind: he said he paced himself during the swim and the 4min time lost was all to plan. The 30 second penalty was a result of him leaving his swimming gear outside of the designated box during the transition to cycling.

      I know someone already answered, but to be more specific: Shoes create a lot of friction when your feet rub inside them, the socks will protect your feet from this friction. This is also much worse on wet feet because they slide around more.

    • @julaGutz121
      @julaGutz121 2 месяца назад +6

      I know someone answered this more specifically but to be unnecessarily specific: Shoes can create significant friction when your feet rub against the interior surfaces, leading to discomfort and potential injury. This friction occurs because as you walk or run, your feet naturally move within the shoe, causing repetitive contact. Socks serve as a protective barrier between your skin and the shoe, reducing direct friction and preventing blisters, chafing, and other forms of irritation.
      The situation worsens when your feet are wet, either from sweat or external moisture. Wet skin has less friction resistance and tends to slide more easily within the shoe, exacerbating the problem. This increased movement can lead to more severe rubbing and quicker onset of blisters and sores. Socks help manage moisture by wicking sweat away from the skin, keeping your feet drier and more stable within the shoe. This added layer of fabric helps maintain a better fit and reduces the likelihood of excessive sliding and friction.

    Congrats young man. Shoot i wish i could still go out there and do my thang. Me my wife and my kids go out every year to support runners and cyclists,,,, back in 93 i met the love of my life in a Marathon that was in L.A, we got married a year later. By 95 we already had three daughters. In 97 i lost my left leg because of a motorcycle accident that was 💯 my fault and i regret every single moment thats the only reason why im 25+ years sober now. The only substance that i will take is probably only caffeine and thats super rare cause i dont like coffee or energy drinks like that like that. Stay healthy, curious and ballsy young kids and girls dont let time slip away DON'T go to N.Y for a "vacation" go to another country, go to norway so you can go see the northern lights. Go to Egypt or Mexico to see the pyramids.
