Shame the sad state of 'black' music today and music companies bear a large responsibility for promoting it. No harmony / melody in popular rap and many artist it seems can't even speak the English language let alone read music. Another part of the problem is modern technology with Internet social media & gaming fills the headspace of youth that should be filled with creativity not BS! I'm hoping one positive outcomes of this pandemic is that aspiring youth take the time to check out any of the Motown bands of the 60's - 70's to see how real soul sounds / feels. Best wishes Otis, Mr. Berger the rest of the Temptations & all!
The quality of “black music” is still declining! I stopped listening to it in the late 90’s. I noticed an ever increasing use of the music with new lyrics but lack of creativity!

I have so much respect for Shelley Berger...he was the "best of the best"...use to hear about him, while working at Motown...not only was he a wonderful manager, but a protective one as well!! Mr. Williams, please ask Mr. Berger if he recalls a particular day he & Billy Dee got on one of the elevators (a floor or so under the Penthouse) & a couple, female & male were standing to his left, as he & Billy occupied the rear portion of the elevator (Billy was on his right) & Billy started kidding around with the young lady, saying so when are you finally going out with me"? & the man to her left, lunged at Billy with his fist flying... Shelley, like greased lightening, jumped between Billy & the young man to protect Billy from harm...saying "cool down man, he was just kidding, he says that to all the girls"...calming the entire situation with his wise & soothing tone...please tell Mr. Berger thank you! I never ever mentioned to my husband, or discussed anything that went on at Motown, I minded my business & performed my work. No one ever knew how many times Billy, or anyone else, ever kidded around with me on a daily basis, at Motown...but one good thing came out of that incident & allowed me to clarify with Billy that I had not incited that in any way & had never mention him or anyone, to my husband (because I knew he was very possessive & highly jealous); after that incident Billy & I became "work friends" often talking about our kids, spouses and other things on the way to the elevators from the "under ground" parking there. I was almost 20 years Billy's junior anyway LOL..in my young life I quickly learned, by watching others that you never "poop" were you eat! Funny thing, word got around about how I minded my business & soon I was invited to be friends with several of the very gifted artist at Motown. I've been blessed by God to be invited into the private lives of a few of the greatest that ever hit stage, getting to know the REAL person behind the image, not the dream everyone chases & misunderstands. "Temptations Live" was recorded in Detroit at the Rooster Tail back in 1967. It featured The Classic Five (aka THE TEMPTATIONS) Ruff, E.K., Paul, Blue, and of course Otis.
