really love this video format! can totally relate to the desire to get away from the computer too; bought an SP404mkII for that exact reason. Wish it was a little more portable though
thank you! yeah, I find that I'm less playful at my computer too. and a lot of these gadgets bring that playfulness out a bit more. I also just bought the Teenage Engineering KO 2. I think it's similar to the Roland, but it seems way more portable.
I'm a huge process junkie, so I ate this entire video up. Since the output quality of the Zoom PS-02 is so low, have you considered using it to make a reference track? Throw your ideas down it in it, bring the export file to your DAW of choice, then recreate the vibe with plugins (or even other devices).
that's a great idea! I've used some of the "beats" I made with it, as like a field recording style noisy ambient crunchy beat in some stuff, but I haven't truly recreated a full song from a sketch yet. I think I may try that.
@@daspetey Inspiring new work flow for you is the least I can do (after spending money on your merch, obviously) to express my gratitude for the joy your music continues to bring me. :D
Круто! These little gadgets are the best that mankind has come up with) I make all my music on them, and even if it sounds dirty, I like it, there's more soul in this sound.
@@daspetey it's very grainy.....Vocals surprisingly come out perfect...... we mainly do lo-fi with it.....but my husband is xperim. vocals into his dub reggae.
Very cool, nice video too, nicely put together :) I have a PS-04 I haven't used yet, apparently they're quite different each have advantages and disadvantages rather than one being the clearly better product. But I hope it can do the same (quite long!) delay with full feedback you've demo'd here. That's fun!
thank you! yeah, i've tried other gadgets that have delays, but i like the PS-02 the best for that. it's also nice, because you can set the feedback to be a little lower, which lets the beat/loop decay a little over time. that way things don't bunch up too much, frequency-wise.
I don't see a Stylophone up on that shelf... I like the Gen X-1 version myself. I also like my Calculator that not only plays notes, but reads the numbers in Chinese... Compelled me to write a song called "52 552 52 538 reset"
ha! you definitely need to write that song! oh and I do have a stylophone, I have the gen x-1, and I have the drum one. I'm anxiously awaiting the theremin as well!
Q: What portable gear would you use if you already had the (complete) musical idea in your head, and wanted to record it as quickly as possible (before you forget it)? I currently sing it into my phone, but it would be nice to be able to *play* the actual drum beat, bassline and chords, esp if they were exportable (for use in a DAW) later. I have a Yamaha QY70, but it doesn't record audio. I recently bought an OP-1 (which CAN record audio/vocals), but (to my astonishment) there's no sequencer, no quantizing and no undo!!?
i actually do think your phone is the best solution for that. i have a ton of little gadgets that are great for one thing or another, but nothing really beats the phone. i would look into iMaschine as a beat-making app. it can record audio too. that's probably my favorite tool for getting a full song idea down.

I totally agree!! I'm learning to embrace the noisy/dirty sound. I think you're right, it gives it soul.

Is that a playdate handheld on your shelf?
it sure is!! I haven't played with it in a while though. I really love the idea of it, I guess I just don't play handheld games that much.
