Mixed Media Bookmarks
I've been getting back into mixed media quite a bit lately, and i thought it'd be fun to bring that obsession into making some silly little bookmarks. It's really a fun way to work for me, keeping things small and manageable. It's also a project i can complete in a single session, which makes me more likely to want to start another session.

All the zines I made in my last session
Просмотров 36214 дней назад
I've been getting into making zines lately, these little hand-made art books, that are part comic, part poetry, part art piece. I decided that I wanted mine to all have little bits of interactivity. Little foldouts and inserts that fit into pockets. Just things that make the books a bit more playful.
Making Zines
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.21 день назад
I've been wanting to make some zines for a while, and I'm finally pushing myself to do it. Zines are sort of these tiny little handmade books. Kind of like half art journal, half poetry. They're not quite comics. There's something a little different. I've seen a bunch of really cool ones over the years, and a few years ago I got addicted to this series of books called Ley Lines. They're usually...
Making Noisemusic with the Korg monotron delay
Просмотров 16628 дней назад
One of my favorite exercises is to sit down with one or two of my music making gadgets and simply make sound. Making Noisemusic with the Korg monotron delay is becoming one of my go-to warm ups. Then I take all that weirdness into my preferred DAW, Logic Pro, and start to carve out some fun moments. Add drums, layer things to thicken it all out, and start to define a song. It might end there, o...
Multitracking with the Zoom PS-02
Просмотров 88Месяц назад
I have all kinds of new, sleek music gadgets, but I always end up coming back to these older ones. This little Zoom PS-02 is almost 25 years old at this point, and I use it all the time. Usually I use it for the ping-pong delay (which I use as a short phrase looper), but it also has multitrack recording ability. Today I'm running the Stylophone GEN-1 into it for some noise-making, and the Pocke...
Another mixed media art haul
Просмотров 223Месяц назад
I took another trip to the art store recently to gather some more supplies for making mixed media art. I found these really cool bundle packages of paints that had six different colors in them and I thought, that's a good start. Then I bought a bunch of stencils and stamps that I could use for making some interesting marks. These days when I buy stencils, I don't care so much about the stencil ...
Studio Vlog 20: Sampling old vinyl with the Korg Microsampler

After a recent trip to a thrift store, I decided to dive into vinyl sampling using the versatile Korg MicroSampler. After connecting a turntable to the MicroSampler's line-in input I was ready to capture those unique sounds. Once I've sa...
Studio Vlog 19: Making music by collaborating with Udio AI

One of my favorite mobile apps for making music on my phone is the iPhone app Figure, which randomly selects instruments, tempo, and key to inspire music creation from a blank slate. I initially takes the separate musical elements generated by Figure into Logic Pro to expand on them, adding melodies and lyrics. But i wanted to see what Udio AI can do as a tool to extend the musical ideas. When ...

Studio Vlog 17: Is it time to make a new game?

Studio Vlog 16: Painting cartoon faces in acrylic

I actually made my first digital zine last summer! I basically incorporated the same idea of traditional paper zines into a digital pdf style zine, the only one i made though (bc it was a project i came up with for an ex) was themed around cats, so there was lots of cat pics and memes and my own drawings of cats, used different cat graphics to sort of overlay some of the pages, there was a page about Egypt (because cats) and one about thunderstorms (because my cat is afraid of storms). It's a super fun way to be creative, even if there isn't a specific goal, but definitely having a theme helps a lot.

Q: What portable gear would you use if you already had the (complete) musical idea in your head, and wanted to record it as quickly as possible (before you forget it)? I currently sing it into my phone, but it would be nice to be able to *play* the actual drum beat, bassline and chords, esp if they were exportable (for use in a DAW) later. I have a Yamaha QY70, but it doesn't record audio. I recently bought an OP-1 (which CAN record audio/vocals), but (to my astonishment) there's no sequencer, no quantizing and no undo!!?
