If it helps re audio problems, I had similar issues when creating videos. One thing that worked for me was to have multiple sources of audio (usually camera mic, a dictaphone and voice recorder on my phone). It took a lot of extra work while editing especially due to having the busy task of aligning the audio with the visual but it really did improve the audio on my videos.
One thing that helps while doing this is making sure you press 'record' on the camera and voice recorder at the very same time, that way it's easier to edit when you lock the audio and visual together (if that makes sense).
Keep doing what you're doing though, Julia. The quality of your videos are amazing!
Multiple recording devices for audio, definitely. Microphones can be very picky on which directions they pick up sound - this is by design and intentional so that the user can filter out noises coming from elsewhere. For recording spoken narration a clip-on microphone can do the job just fine. It doesn't need to be fancy or expensive to do the job.
As for syncing audio well movies have long used clapboards for a good reason: they provide an image and a sound that is not intended to be in the final product and stands out against everything else being recorded. You'll sometimes see streamers checking if audio is synced by clapping their hands or making some other noise. It's the same principle.

Use acrylic, not plexiglass, because it's not prone to cracks or brakes.
Suggestion: since you mentioned that Lumi often takes a stroll in the living room … please film it!! ( do you hide goodies under the furniture?)

I don't tame guinea pigs, they tame me hahahhaaha...
I prefer videos with bad audio over no videos :)

Question about long term guinea pig herd keeping. I had 4 and as they aged and got sick, I racked up thousands in vet bills. With your multiple generations of piggies how do you budget for that?

Check or replace the cable on the microphone. They kind of tend to fail after a while. That would be a good first place to look.
