I had the 1100ESD - very slightly refined relative to the Katana. Amazing bike. Took off like a rocket even in top gear. Fairly easy on the gas too, if you were just cruising. Modern engines don't seem to have that tractor-gutsiness of the old bikes, nor the buzz.
Hey Malcolm, a riding buddy of mine had an ESD. Blue and pearl, black engine, frame-mounted fairing. A real grunt machine as you say. A better bike than the 16" front wheel models that followed.
Beautiful bikes, Sexiest design ever!. So much character. Lovely torquey motors, even in top gear. I have a 1986 GSX1100EF with 71884 kms on it. Love it to bits. Big padded sit on all day seat lazy motor not one of these high revving motors now days.
Music to my ears. Sounds nice, looks steady as a rock 👍Katanas are just great bikes. I’ve 2 of the 650 model. The big ones are getting very expensive to buy.
At the time it was running a non-standard 18" front wheel (2.15 rim width) with a 110/90V18 tyre. A 41 tooth rear sprocket and a 130/90V18 rear (3.00 rim). So no, both tacho and speed would have been effected by a smaller rolling diameter at the front and a larger rolling diameter at the rear, add to that final drive ratio slightly higher.
I've owned 12 of these over the years and drag raced another 4. One of the best bikes I've ever owned.
I've had a bone stock 1000cc version SXZ for 25 years. I can't feel my fingers after about 50 miles. Beautiful bikes!
my favourite classic bike

いいですね~刀❗️👍️
nice
I literally just totaled mine an hour ago 😭 now I’m in the waiting room for a pretty solid case of ass burn (road rash)
How are you now?
what gearing? mine is around 4000 at 100kph, assuming either the tacho and/or speedo are correct

What a Buzz!
Well I'll go thrash my katana tomorrow
Why
oh yeah, need some milk and bread aye?
Hi old mate ;)
Motorcycles are a disease...
A wonderful,incurable disease.
And its a life long affliction.😀
Lot of buzz
Yep, carburettion was running rich on a barely open throttle due to worn needle jets since replaced.
