We raise chickens and those as you know they produce waste. So, when we clean out their coop we have a composting pile. So we can reuse the stuff to make garden beds.

Hi Mr . Smedes: Hope you are well. You are really helping me in APES . I have a quick question: Does over recycling in some ways hurt the planet more than not recycling at all?

I don't understand why it's not common practice to wash Ziplock bags. Particularly the nice ones with a zipper. You could buy one package of Ziplock bags and use it for years without having to buy new ones.

I completely agree! I even wash the little snap seal one and reuse those as long as I can. You can also buy heavy duty, rubber sandwich bags which easily hold up for years.

That's a good idea. However, I ziplock bags do tend to rip and get thinner as they age, but yes, you could use one pack of ziplock bags for years. I never thought of it like that before. Yeah, why do people throw away ziplock bags after one use?

I imagine the same reason you should not reuse single use plastic water bottles, which leach carcinogens when filled with tap water. (In the factory those bottles are filled with deionized water)
However, there are plenty of alternatives to ziploc bags, including wax wraps, glass, reuseable silicon bags, etc
