That claim is historically blasphemous and most be addressed. But as per this video, the same late Sijuade Olubuse II also betrayed Obas Adeyemi of Oyo, Adetona of Ijebuland, MKO Abiola and all Yoruba progressives after promising the obas to their face that he will insist on the announcement of the result of the 1993 elections which SDP/ MKO clearly won. He had promised the Obas of Yorubaland to their face that he'll not go against the position of fairness and integrity but after planning and eating and conspiring with the late Ado Bayero of Kano, he changed his mind and the Obas had to micro-manage him at the meeting with Babangida by sitting him between them. Still, Sijuade went out and told the reporters that the government should conduct new polls to the shock of the majority of kings all over Yorubaland and others like the Or Tiv from most non-Fulani kingdoms all over Nigeria. The irate Obas were told of Sijuade's betrayal and given a copy of the tape so they went to meet Sijuade in his room were he was again with Ado Bayero. He initially denied and then the tape was played to him and then he went mute. They asked him to verbally rescind his earlier statement but the late Chukwumerije was in charge of press at the state house and went with the earlier tape which Sijuaade had evidently planned with the Northern kings at the expense of the sacrifice and dignity of the Yorubas. The Awujale put this on record in one of his books and the Alaafin confirmed it. None of them are saints but we should be objective about their claims and logical and biological about dissecting Olugbo's claims about seniority of his kingdom by stating facts not descending to this level. From Akinrutan's claims, he admits that his people once ruled in Ife but ran from battle after Oduduwa took over rulership of Ife and set up his kingdom. He even admits that his forefathers settled for raiding Ife once in a while till Moremi also came to cancel that scourge. With this claim, it is clear to me that Akinrutan's claim falls on its face because if you don't show up for battle, you lose and if even Oduduwa had to become an Ife person, learning the culture and language to be able to lead after defeating Obatala and co, it is obvious that Olugbo's only correct claim is that his ancestors were originally from Ife as all Yorubas are linked to Ife in one way or another. Our brethren from Ugbo can comment so we can rub minds and educate each other. Peace!

Nobody has said Ugbo are not from ife but I think it is erroneous to say that they(ugbo) owned ife.
