It's dying out in Kingston... The 'country' schools are those representing in JCDC Traditional Folk Form every year. The Kingston students only know about American pop culture. I pray the principals in the other parishes continue to keep our heritage alive.
When you go to Jamaica, don't focus and reggae and dancehall Go to St Thomas and checkout the Bantu people that do the kumina drumming and dance They speak the kikongo language to communicate during this dance and drumming The dance in the video is called dinki mini I think this is in St Mary I think Clarendon does it also Kingston is for the dancehall I personally love the kumina It makes me connect with the ancestors Jamaica is very deep in many culture
If you have to ask that, then I suspect that an explanation would be in vain...the drumming, the tempo, the rhythm, the attitude, the occasion and the choreography are all different.
We need to preserve our culture. It's dying out

I know for sure this dance is done in Portland, Jamaica. The kids as young as elementary school dance Dinki Mini often when they hear the drum pattern
