I don’t think this is terribly useful. I’d rather Ancestry spent their resources on fixing the annoying problems like being able to delete large numbers of people, non-response when searching for duplicates or trying to add records, able to sort the people list by DOB, DOD, location. So many little but very annoying issues that make Ancestry not very user friendly.
Ancestry should fix the problems they have instead of spending the time on historical stories. It took over two years of my complaining about not being able to access notes, left via email from Ancestry, to be fixed. Small things like being able to sort photos in alpha order to ease the search for a photo. They should also try and fix the generation of duplicate persons. They know it happens and all they can do is tell you how to work around it. How about all the erroneous records returned from a search, especially when the "Exact" box is clicked. I say it must be "New Jersey" and they bring back records from "Arizona". Just a few of the things that would be more helpful.
That looks fascinating thanks for alerting us. I don't know which of several sons is my maternal grandfather. I wonder how/if this would work for a great grandparent.
Very interesting! Thanks for your great video! I'm looking forward to giving it a try. I hope this will work for great grandparents - if not now, then eventually. Were you able to save the information from the StoryScout documents or did you have to go to the card catalog and do a search for the document?
It's not clear what Story Scout offers. How is a Story Scout found application to Sons of the American Revolution any different than the one I find from the Card Catalog? (BTW, be aware: Those Sons of the American Revolution applications have a lot of good information; but they also often contain wrong information. A lot of research and new records have come to light in the past couple of decades, so take those applications with a grain of salt. Remember, the applicant had an agenda.)
DNA Match Page: How about adding the LAST SIGNED IN DATE below the Matches photo along with the "managed by..."? Seems a simple enough addition as everyone's LAST SIGNED IN DATE is listed on their Profile page! It is frustrating to find a new match that has not been active for over a year!
Is this available to only a few people? I thought it was going to be available in June, but I do not see it on Ancestry and there is nothing in the Ancestry Lab for Beta. Thanks.
Ancestry needs to fix the problem with Newspaper.com that displays its findings as obituaries for living people. Unless you pay for “Newspaper” you don’t get to the actual fact that the name listed as an obit in their records is actually someone who’s name was mentioned in the obit.
So far I am primarily getting census records. The suggestions that Ancestry has with each are interesting. It ties the time period and events of the time to the records so you get a different idea of your ancestor. Laura Shepherd, my 2xGGm, a Laundress from Virginia was of voting age at the adoption of the 19th Amendment. As I research I am reminded of all that has changed in a short time, and all that has not. Cool idea.
Algorithms make everything lighting fast these days, I did my geneology by hand 10 years ago, only took me like a month, anyone can use the google on the internet. The DNA and algorithms at light speed are just neat confirmation
Ha! I hadn't noticed that. You're right. I think someone else must have submitted that in 1964. Clearly they have some tweaking to do. Thanks for pointing it out. Good catch!
Also, um, there's no Cable County in West Virginia. Perhaps it's Cabell? Drives me nuts these drop-downs that are wrong. It seems to draw from other locations input by people, and doesn't actually know if the location is real or not.
I am adopted. Could you or this program help me find my family. I was adopted from The Children’s’ aid Society in Philadelphia, in 1957. I wrote to them, but they would not give me a name. Thank you if you could respond.

I agree with Linda Rader: "I don’t think this is terribly useful. As much as Ancestry is an amazing resource, it mostly caters to the casual family historian who wants things found for them at a click of the button. Deep analysis like in depth DNA likely isn’t worth it. Most people do their DNA so they can “see where they’re from” (& their ads sell that) after all. Serious researchers are going to pay for memberships to find sources whether the issues are ever resolved or not.
They need a way to red flag obvious erroneous tree suggestions and let the flagger explain in detail what is wrong with grouped tree hints. We can comment on documents and pictures but grouped tree hints also need comments. One of my lines they have 1000+ tree hints that contain that exact same debunked nonsense that everyone keeps repeating. *** They also need to give us a chromosome browser or at least provide segment details on the match. They add in all the tiny false matches to the centimorgan totals.
Hi Connie, I wonder if it finds great-grandparents and further back. Since it is relying on source documents, it won't use to all the unsourced trees. Maybe it will be more accurate. If you find an ancestor whom others have added to your tree but you have no sources, it appears that you can say no, this isn't my ancestor but can you give reasoning why you believe that is so?
So these are based on other dna match trees.. What about mistakes how does it deal with mistakes because we know there are a lot of trees out there with mistakes.
Well it’s an algorithm, so if there are mistakes out there it’s going to pull those in. This is why we need to evaluate each piece of evidence for ourselves.
@@GenealogyTV I agree I think its an important point to make especially those new to research and those who just copy and paste into their tree not fully researching.
It is not yet available in Canada, so I got nowhere looking for it on the Canadian website. But I did find it when I went to the US website instead, at this URL: www.ancestry.com/stories I can’t say yet how useful it is, but I did find that I am the 8th cousin 3x removed of the American poet Emily Dickinson.
