In our test with these three modern muscle cars, we just had to figure out which was fastest in a quarter-mile setting. Over the course of three races, including a rolling start...we found our answer!

When we got the opportunity to test three modern muscle cars side by side - the BMW M8 Competition, the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, and the Polestar 1 - we knew we had to line these three up against each other in a straight line.
You're probably thinking to yourself: There's no way these three wildly different cars really compete, right? Well, they're actually more evenly matched than you might think - at least on paper. The Shelby is technically the most powerful, churning out 760 horsepower and 625 pound-feet from its supercharged 5.2-liter V8. And in perfect conditions, Ford says this car will sprint to 60 miles per hour in just 3.3 seconds.
The BMW M8 Competition's twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 pumps out 617 hp and 553 lb-ft by comparison. But with a highly advanced launch control system and all-wheel drive, BMW says that this car will hit 60 in just 3.0 seconds flat. That makes it the quickest car of the three.
But don't count out the Polestar 1. The coupe's hybridized, supercharged, and turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder produces 619 hp and a whopping 737 lb-ft - that's more torque than both the Mustang and the BMW. Since this Polestar is heavier than the other two (it tips the scales are more than 5,000 pounds), it takes closer to 4.0 seconds for this car to hit 60.

Can we mention how all 3 of these cars are engineering masterpieces in their own aspects? The BMW is yet another addition to a line of great cars. The polestar is very unique. The mustang is just pure nasty American power. All three are amazing in their own respects

That first one was actually a very impressive launch for the Mustang. Just enough slip to smoke a little but still a lot of traction. The 2nd one definitely deserved another shot.

what we learned: 8 cylinders is faster than 4. AWD is faster than RWD. not particularly surprising.

Kind of true up to a quarter mile. Example Agera RS(twin turbo V8 1360hp RWD) vs Bugatti Chiron (quad turbo W16 1500 hp AWD) chiron could beat Agera RS to a quarter mile drag.... But what after that? Agera RS better acceleration....

GT500 didn't hook at all, specially on the 2nd race & it was still called as best as it gets! at least from the video it looks like a spin, bogged down & then acceleration, lowering rpm should help.
My guy turned it up to 3000rpm and called it good🤦🏾♂️

The shelby GT500 base model actually weighs less than 4,200lbs and its around 4,187lbs. The carbon fiber package GT500 weighs 4,056lbs

M8 is a beast. See a lot tuning the platform on the new M5 but not really seen anyone do it to the M8. Would love to see even. Stage 1 tuned M8 to see what difference it makes.

We already know a stock Shelby GT500 runs a 1/4 mile in 10.5 seconds while a M8 competition runs it in about 10.9 seconds.
I really hope ford quickly launches a fix for the massive delay on the launchcontrol for the gt500

I think M8 is just too Germanish sharp and too perfect, but Mustang is freaking pure muscle American car. Both are amazing!
That's not saying much when you can buy 2 GT500's or 3 GT350's for that price lol. They ruined that launch on the Mustang really bad though, you can see the burnout. The GT500 is faster in the quarter when hooked up properly. Either way the GT500 would still beat it around a track. Kind of ironic when a German car is good in a straight line and an American car is faster on the track

@@ishra8926 GT500 hasn't gone on the Nurbergring, but has beaten every GT3 RS on pretty much every major track in NA. It would definitely beat an M8 considering that lol. And on a high speed track like the Nurbergring the GT500 would walk the M8 easily. Look up the track times on NA tracks.

Not sure I get the GT500, is it a drag car or a track car? What kind of lap times does it do?
As a pure drag car it might do ok on slicks, but on street tires or on the street it doesn't seem to hook that well.
It’s a muscle car also made for the track: it’s not a pure drag car like the dodge demon.
As much as i am a pure mustang fan an love the cars, that bmw is beautiful in green, best bmw ive ever seen 👌👍👍

The track is a little short for the GT500 to really show what it’s got.
It's the base model version not the GT500 carbon fiber package track version which has stickier tires and more downforce.
The GT500 would have hunted down the M8 and game over.

Tell me where you would find a 81k shelby? They are over 100K at any dealership, some go up to 120k
There are dealers that sells them at MSRP, you have to look to find them. I got lucky and mine is currently getting built at MSRP.

The m8 is a gt car. It’s night and day difference in drive ability and comfort compared to the Shelby. That’s really what you are paying for is luxury.

Good content but I’ve seen Mustangs owners play with the setting and beaten m8cs from a dig. It’s just not a car you get in a drive. You gotta get use to it. TC off change rpm and a few other techniques than just smashing the gas which causes that wheel spin. It can be done but you gotta tinker it

The 625hp is the European version - the American version is 617 because of the exhaust restrictions.

In Mustang Launch control only works when esp is on and esp cuts the gas when burnout so mustang couldn’t go full gas at launch
I will rather spend that $175k (BMW M8 Competition Prices) for the 2020 Shelby GT500.

Set the launch control rpm too high on the gt500 which should have known from the first race lol if you're spinning and have to let off the gas to get traction then you're launching too hard and that kills your 60foot and ultimately the 1/4 mile; Just helping for the future
