What else should we try doing with this NAS? What do *you* use for rom storage and file management? Notes: The 10% coupon is expired, but i'm asking when there will be a new one (most likely when it launches on Amazon). Also, the specs I show at the start are for the upgraded 6/8 bay version, this one here uses the Intel 8505, 1x 10gb and 1x2.5gb network ports and no thunderbolt (you have to scroll to the very bottom of their product page to discover this).
FWIW, I have the 8 bay UGreen DXP8800 Plus model. Great hardware and as mentioned the OS (UGOS Pro) still needs some work. Last I checked USB (and Thunderbolt) pass through wasn’t yet working for docker and VM’s, which, is kind of important IMO. There is also no iSCSI support. It’s easy enough to install your own OS though if you want to go that route.
I was wondering how well it would work with ROMM and EmulatorJS? This may work for my use case because it would save me the hassle of having to worry about setting up a old computer with Casaos and have a clean looking server.
This ain't bad! It's using the same processor that was supposed to be in the base Loki. It's not that fast but does the job. The real test is video transcoding, it should be able to do that well, I'm not sure how the processor will fare. Could you do a follow up video perhaps? Emby/Jellyfin/Plex? Great review! P.S. Taki Udon II did tons of videos on that processor, gives us a good impression of it's performance for gaming and emulation.
Ah good call and insight here! Thanks. I've been using it heavily for Plex and hardware transcoding has been snappy! I'm not making a follow-up video for non retro handheld related parts of the nas, but as I find more use cases that make sense here I'll happily share my updated thoughts 🫡
@@retrohandhelds also its 1x 10gb and 1x2.5gb network ports and no thunderbolt. It's not bad specs but they are bit unclear on their site about what nas has what specs you have to go the very bottom of their spec pages to see
I should also say that I bought 4bay+ during the Kickstarter sale. I use it for Docker Plex/Plexamp, Home Assistant, and Node-Red. Also backup my onedrive with the built in app

This is some next level nerd stuff here, bro I dig it
I love it! It's very similar to my little server I built out of my old PC, but so much smaller and quieter. Could actually fit that into a console! 💚
I could definitely use one of these to get rid of the dozen hard drives on my desk
This looks awsome man 🙂
Stubbs give me the login. Give it to me now. Do it. DO IT
Definitely not something I expected to see here. However super interesting!
But I'll stick with my hdds
Can you make a Showcase video of most if not all of the things you can do with the UGreen NAS?
I want to revisit it again, I would show what's related to Retro gaming
@@retrohandhelds Please do 🥺🙏
I want to use this for my Kodi setup!
Here for the P-NAS joke, disappointed not to find it, so here you go Stubbs.
Thank you 😅
Same, I’m here for that as well

Ah fantastic! I want to try the 8800
Can you show us some input lag tests?

@@frostbyte11 ah nice! I'd love to hear how this works out!

@@retrohandhelds Ahh good to know, is that 4k transcoding or just 1080p? I mean I watch all my video's in 1080p anyways.
Thanks!
those specs are for the 6/8 bay not the 4 bay+
You mean the SOC screen shot? Yeah this is the Intel Gold 8505.

@@qbusqbus ah shoot, I went too quick on that part! You're right. I will add a note and make an edit. My apologies there.

Was your Daughter playing Barbie PS1 on your TV back there?
Ooof that expired discount code stings
😅sorry about that! There will be more sales I'm told, and I'll update the links once that happens.
Im not trusting my data on a random unknown nas company
This is always a concern, while everything appears on the up and up here, you can also load on something like Unraid OS.
A 4 bay for over $500...good luck.
Please stop stitching sentences together woth jumpcuts. I watch the podcast... I know you can speak.
Thanks for watching!
