It’s sad that Thunderbirds don’t get the attention they deserve. They are really nice cars
Both the Thunderbird and the SSR were nice for the time
@@coreyverrett8117 Too futuristic for the era but they are gems to the right people now that appreciate them
Most people including my wife who goes for fords didn't like them. I being a Chevy guy like the design. So very strange.
USA 8-yvyy
They needed to put a real engine in the car.
My neighbor has one in absolutely immaculate condition.
She only drives it on weekends during nice weather.
She often wears oversized sunglasses and a scarf and in her mind, I am sure she envisages herself as a later-day Marilyn Monroe but in reality, she could start a side hustle of being a Rosanne Barr impersonator!
😂
These are actually pretty nice cars. Not fast but fun to drive.
Keep the hard top. It will add value to it when you let it go especially if someone buys it in a region where they have snow.
I've never seen a hardtop for sale, probably pretty hard to get.
We have snow here but I would not dare drive this in winter. If for no reason other than to avoid getting road salt on it. That said, the hardtop would be good for rainy or cold days.
Randy: I don’t need another headache in my life.
Also Randy: continues buying cars from an auction 😂
That's where 88% of cars come from at most dealers
Nice T-Bird, I have a 2005 Anniversary edition with about 38,000 miles on it. It is my daily driver. I purchased a small top lifter for the hard top so I can take the top on and off by myself. The really cool thing about it is I get compliments from both young an old, male and female.
I think it’s the best T bird ever made. I’m talking reliability, safety, and appearance to 64 model.
The cougars love em for sure 😂
If you plan on selling it i would hang on to the hard top! Wiill probably bring more money if its complete.....seems like a good deal you got it for im on the fence whether i like it or not.....stay up and hard and free brother...much love ❤️ to all......✨️🌟💯
The 3.9L V8 is actually a Jaguar engine and the platform that this thunderbird is based on (Thunderbird enthusiasts call this generation the “Retrobird”) also underpinned the Lincoln LS.
EDIT: the cart contraption you pulled out of the trunk is the storage cart for the hard top!
EDIT2: I was corrected by another commenter that says the 3.9L V8 is an engine that was fully designed and developed by Jaguar before being made a part of their Premier Automotive Group in 1999.
Wdym based on a jaguar engine? It literally is a Jaguar engine, its their own in house design
Lincoln ls basically
The Jaguar AJ8, the 4.2 liter version of this engine came out in the same era S type I believe, and had a variation in some Astin Martins and Land Rovers.
@@jameslovitt994 and according to Wikipedia, a Gen III version that is 5.0L is still being used in the F-Type and the Range Rover and Land Rover Defender.
@@jameslovitt994 Buick was the original engineer of the 4.0 before it was the 4.0. Was originally a 3.5 v8 that Buick sold to jaguar/Land Rover
I was around for the first generation Thunderbird's and the first thing many of the new owners installed was a rope block and tackle to the garage ceiling to lift the top off them. The rope was tied off to the garage wall to keep it out of the way and a safety precaution in case the lock on the block and tackle failed . There was a 1957 Thunderbird owner on our street who's son and I were good friends. The biannual spring time hardtop removal and the fall replacement of the hardtop in time for winter was a spectacle that we never missed as long as he owned the car. A chance to help and pick up some new words at the same time. I'd keep the hard top with the car as added value. Great video as always. Thank you for taking us along.
Keep the hard top. In case the cloth top gets ripped up. My uncle had one, same year. His rag top got torn up after a few years. He put the hard top back and left it like that until he sold the TBird
I think you scored on a gem Randy! You weren't really looking for one, but this one happily came to you! I'm happy to see you enjoy driving it, it seems to be a very fun car!
As for the hardtop, it seems like the previous owner bought one and stuck it on there. Maybe keep the hardtop as an option for the next buyer? If the buyer doesn't want it, then you can't go wrong selling it!
Yes, it's a cool car. I own a 2004 with 28k mi. Your purchase price is about right knowing that it needs some paint, etc. You did well, and certainly didn't get screwed. It won't be a money maker for you (at least not a lot), but it's a super nice car to enjoy riding around in, and it gets a lot of attention. Top should be worth $700 on the low end and $1200 on the high end.
Personally, I love that era of Thunderbird. I'd keep it awhile and find a new parade top. Nice ride Randy.
C'mon! If he can't replace a few buttons on a bit of material then he's in the wrong job. Give it a wash and get out the sewing machine! ;) Maybe dye it a little blacker.
Nice car. The reason for the different color top was that the original owner probably bought the car without the hardtop and then decided they wanted it and found out you could not get it from ford as ford only had enough for the cars that were ordered with them. Back in the day the two big options on this car was with or without the hard top. That past owner probably could only find that color of top. I almost bought a red version of this generation at a ford dealer but they sold the hard top off of it so i walked as the tops were hard to find used at that time.
Yep, a lot of dealers sold the tops off of the trade ins.
Like the T-Bird! I would own one and drive the heck out of it. And yes I'm an old man,but a kid in heart
The Thunderbird is Actually worth more with the hard top included. I would have the hard top painted to mach the car and sell it with it that doesn't mean it ever has to go back on the car.
i would keep the top, be worth more as a package when you go to sell it in a couple weeks. not a ford guy but man i love these cars
I love that Thunderbird it makes me want one for some reason. I figured it was front wheel drive though. A little shocked that that's rear wheel drive I don't see them on the road at all anymore
Keep the hard top Randy. It will add value when you’re ready to sell the thunderbird. I think the hardtop is sought after
And the burn out was fire ..especially went it started to slide side ways
The rack is the holder for the hardtop. You strap it on so it doesn't fall off
I have been waiting weeks for this car to be uploaded and it was worth the wait! This car appears to be in great shape and believe it or not having the hard top to go with the soft top makes the car worth way more..most die hard collectors would pay a premium to have the hard top even if it is a different color..I have seen these cars with low miles like this one selling for close to $30K mainly because Ford only made them for 3 years because at the time it was a huge failure and did not sell very well but they have appreciated greatly with time and now highly collectible, not as collectible as the originals but finding one of this generation with low miles is almost impossible and I wouldn't even go by the book value because they always under value a vehicle...I would say you scored on this one! Great Find!
❤thanks❤
Not everybody wants a convertible and would prefer the top.
Friend of mine, first new car was a convertible, hated it, never bought another. Would of loved to have had a hardtop to put on.
Leave the hardtop off to go along with the car.
I have the exact same car. The engine is a Jaguar. The frame is a Lincoln.
At least you got the cover and hardtop cart..
You sit the top with the rear window on the bottom.
Get 2 tennis balls to place over the hardtop pins to prevent anymore scratches.
That platform is also jaguar
It's an Stype
Mine is a 2004 merlot/sand interior, just getting used to it no car payments.
The engine is a Jag design but built in Michigan. Use’s better cylinder liners than the Jag built 3.9.
@@derondewitz2463Not what I’ve researched.
That Thunderbird is a super cool car
It's a very unique and different car but it being different is why i like it a little bit of TLC and a spray job and man it will be a thing of beauty
Hi Randy I think you should keep the hard top for the winter time then take it of in summer time
You got the best looking model that they made.. Black with Chrome and the nice interior pass for a Guys Car for sure.. I do like the one that you got even tough they did a somewhat Cheesy Job on the exteriror. I like it but I say still keep the SSR when it cpmes down to it.. Great video once again, my friend!!
Randy, it's a Jag underneath; the V8 is the first tell...the Jagbird & SSR are definitely iconic products of the early-2000's
So funny enough, my uncle had an SSR and my aunt (his wife) had a Thunderbird. His was a two-tone silver on black, and hers was a seafoam green, it was a special edition. Never thought I'd see both of these cars on your channel at the same time. I think it's a sign from my uncle from up above, and it's bringing back a lot of memories. Thank you, Randy.
Awesome video love that car been waiting on this video Randy. You got lucky on that one this is one of my dream cars enjoy it man.
Hey Randy, it seems to me you really scored on the Thunderbird! Cool Little convertible! I would keep that hardtop, though I think it looks pretty neat, and it looks kind of funky with that cover unless you can fix it! Mixing the cover and painting, it would make a world of difference!
Love the T Bird. Living in NH I would use the hard top during snow season. Too bad you couldn't find someone to just replace the snaps on the cover. At 83 I fit the profile.....................................................NH OLDFART
I think its a cool universal car. Always did Like the Thunderbird. The design is Timeless.
Good deal , I have a 02 Brit Red , have never taken the top off , may be someday I love it , every were I go people want to talk about it , it's a great car !!!!
Yes! The unique cars are my favorite part of the channel, this one and the plymouth colt wagon with the mitsubishi engine are my favorite
So sad to see that old Chevy leave I would never sold it I miss the old videos when he buys cars try to drive them home instead of having them delivered still love the videos keep watching
Randy, I ❤,❤,❤, that T-Bird! You amaze me with some of the deals you find. Hope you don’t plan to retire the channel anytime soon.
P.S. I really like the truck videos. Between my wife and I, we have 3. 2 RAMs and 1 Silverado.
That Thunderbird looks newer than 2002. Excellent condition
FINALLY! Hope it’s not totailed and you get it fixed wuth what’s wrong! Keep it up randy! I love those 3.4’s, and that body style!!
Hey, I suggested to you to bring that to the channel months ago. You listened 😅. Jokes aside, I never saw one here. Unfortunately, ford doesn’t import lot of cars in Europe. Great video as always!
Vary awesome ford Thunderbird. Keep up the great work.
Love the Thunderbird, Same exact color and all that Jet Lee drove in the movie Cradle To The Grave with DMX... Would repaint it Black and find some nice 19 inch Black rims for it with the correct offset and have either some Flow Master 40 series or MagnaFlow mufflers installed so the V8 can really rumble. Beautiful car Randy
Good buy and keep the hardtop Would come in handy for security in the city
I'd keep the top with it, have it paint matched too, then store it just in case you resell this car because that rare top adds significantly more value.
I would keep it for the winter months it’ll be a lot warmer in the car with that hardtop and it snow will be better on it so it’s a good thing to have for the wintertime. Keep the car warmer inside I would keep it and get somebody help you put it back on when he starts to get too cold.
Hi Randy, I love the Thunderbird. I'm with you on the hardtop keep it off as long as the soft top is in good shape and works properly, then that's all you need. Don't sell the hardtop, just keep it in the corner of the garage with a blanket over it on the stand and then when you sell it, it will go to the next owner. Keep the boot (parade cover) in the trunk, and you need to store it properly, but then you will have it with you if you want to put it on, let's say at a cars and coffee. If you get it painted, do the hardtop also. 😀✌❤
I’ve always liked those. That one has potential.
Randy the transmission is so solid listen to the crisp shift real solid
It well sell with the hardtop better than if you separate them. The parade cover can be repaired at a upholstery shop. I had a 2006 lincoln with that engine and it never had to be worked on. I sold it 3 years ago with 72000 miles on it. The only thing I worried about is the fittings on the engine are plastic and breakage becomes a problem. They become brittle. It looks like the T-Bird you have was taken care of. I bought a Cadillac after selling the Lincoln, big mistake. I have 9000 miles on the cad and it is like a lumber wagon for riding comfort.
Ray
Love them. Fun car to drive around during the summer. I’ll take the thunder chicken all day long over the ssr. But if I had the money to blow I would keep them both lol
Hey Randy, I just wanted to let you know that I watched your video on the Ford Thunderbird and I’ve always liked those for Thunderbirds and I think you got a awesome car and I’m hoping you’re planning on keeping it for a while because I would like to see it on channel again and I’m hoping you’re thinking about getting it re-sprayed whatever color you’re thinking about doing it maybe the original color black would look good on it or a different color that’s up to you but I think you picked a very awesome car dude talk to you later. Have a good day. Tell Jessica and Nick I said hi. Can’t wait to see your next video on the fourth Thunderbird. if you’re planning on putting another one out
I just bought a 2004 Thunderbird with 6,400 Mi on the odometer. I love driving the car,I very impressed with the car rides. As a matter of fact it's a new car! Same color as yours black . I hope you enjoy your car as well.
My grandfather kept a 79 t bird that was my grandmothers pearl. Loved that car glad we kept it in the family. The flip up lights i loved as a child
Use the rafters in the shop for easy 1 man removal
The t-bird looks awesome 😎
I just bought a 2002 with a rebuilt title for $8500 so I think you got a deal. I do have documentation of the non-collision damage which made a difference to me. I think they simply replaced the hard-top. That thing certainly shines. Would look good sitting next to my While one! haha Congratulations!
Randy miss the will they make drive homes man. Them are the best
dude BIG FAT YES i agree
I really like the car seems like it rides really nice. Once you get the paint and the headlights taken care of. It’ll look beautiful. Also, you have some very loud cicadas in your neighborhood could really hear them even when you were driving going by trees.
Nice car! I like it!
I'm with you. The soft top looks way better than that hard top.
Youll want to fix the Soft top if you get a chance. It should be sealed to the glass all the way around in the back. Otherwise it will leak inside and rot the inside. May be why they put a hard top on it. Look up how to repair that. You can get adhesive and tools to fix that for less than $100.
Love Thunderbirds! Love the videos! Maybe look out for a Thunderbird super-coupe with the 5 speed.. it’s a blast!
Hey Randy, it seems to me you really scored on the Thunderbird! Cool Little convertible!
I didn’t realize those thunderbirds were that heavy. 3,900 lbs ? That explain the 0-60 in 7 seconds for 260 hp car.
Wonderful Video Randy! Sad to see the Chevy 1940 go!!
Randy realy like this body style on the thunderbird, dont get rid of the first part off this car its kind of hard to find, yes i would drive one
There's one local to me with a white top and whitewall tires. Nice exhaust and very happy old guy driving it
Wow, what a sweet ride. I remember seeing these on the road as a kid are used to love them because they had a V-8 nice burn out. This is actually a good car for a single person It’s the V-8 for me 😎
I say keep the hard top and have it all repainted and then resell it as on ebay they are asking like 20k for ones with good paint.
Not bad , I always liked the aqua colored ones for some reason
In my opinion, Keep the top, have the top painted same color as car but painted off the car. When you sell this vehicle with a top it will bring more value with the vehicle. So I would assume it will sell alot faster. Or... if your debating on keeping car or selling it... you may have a change of mind on getting rid of the top. You may want to be patient with this one and let it marinate a little. Good luck, and great find!
Right 👍
Keep the hard top with the car
Randy they are worth way more as a package
You already have the storage Cart
What you are missing is the in garage top hoist that was available
Just a little bit of buff up clean up repaint and a new parade top and you've got everything you need for that Thunderbird and you'll make a good flip on it too if you decide to sell it but keep it all together as a package
Love the thunderbird. But my vote overall for the car to keep is that impala SS. The video did pretty good on it and it really deserves more videos of love for it. What’s nice about it is it’s not one that’s been modded with a giant loud rattle can exhaust and cut out bumpers. It’s a beautiful car which is what the impala SS was always meant to be. It was never a “sports car”
You’re really lucky to have a good Maaco where you live because the ones around us in Myrtle Beach are really bad!
I’ve always liked thunderbirds , somehow I’ve ended up with a few and had good times in them. I really liked the 94 Super Coupe with the 3.8 supercharged V6 . That car surprised me at every stoplight race. Doesn’t sound cool but you spend time in one you know. I remember a LS1 z28 punched it in front of me and I ended up catching and actually going around him . Most wouldn’t believe it but it happened.
Wish I had ya as a neighbor! I need to be doing what you do. Love my chef job but I love the cars you fetch. ❤
I'm one of those who love this generation Thunderbird.
I've always wanted one of those, but they can be a bit pricy depending on condition.
Nice Hollywood cruiser.
OMG. Just noticed the Pontiac Sunbird Convertible next to the HHR. I used to love those cars and back in the day they were the perfect convertible for the working class who couldn't afford a luxury car.
Randy just take the parade cover to a canvas maker and they can iron that out and repair the snaps.
I had a 03, that's when Ford owned Jaguar so many things were shared with the LS and S. The car was fantastic, drove it back and forth across the US about 3 times. It's also very good on gas.
I think the Thunderbird is a nice car. It's nothing I would drive personally because convertibles are really my cup of tea unless it's a pick-up truck.
Randy I’m with you on this that T-Bird is one sweet ride I’d not only keep it and have a nice cruiser clean it up slap some new paint on it add four 18” custom wheels on, and you ridin!
Hell yeah I enjoyed it, keep 'em comin'!!
The soft top looks way better then the hard top and easier to deal with
Paint the Thunderbird and it'd be an awesome car then. the interior is spotless That's a good reason to make the outside spotless. and you should probably get twice what's paid for it.
The Thunderbird is a pretty cool car... I've never liked the headlights but other than that they look good. I personally wouldn't sell the hard top. I think it looks really nice with it on. Plus it will add to the selling power when you get ready to sell it. ✌
I recently got that exact car for and it has 156 k miles so not too bad of a deal. As for the car itself... its awesome!
Love the thunder bird keep the hard top will be worth so much more complete
I think it's a pretty good buy on the T-bird. If your plan is to just send it back to auction, sell the roof and the cart separately. Unless it's somebody's daily, the hardtop probably gets very little use. The T-bird does play to a more mature audience.
Nice car. I really like the body style & been searching for one. Bought 1 from NASCAR driver Dale Jarrett. It’s white with red/black interior with only 6,892 miles on it. It places better in car
shows with the
hardtop on. Enjoy your tbird. Really a head turner
Not sure if it was said already but that spare tire is a ticking time bomb! Replace it BEFORE it explodes. When they blow up, they usually damage the fuse box, battery, tire cover and trunk lid.
I love those T-Birds
I actually like them T-Birds more than the original ones and needs both tops in my opinion. Seems like a bargain at 7K. The SSR would look better with the roof chopped old school style; that tall roof looks dorky.
Nice Thunderbird. Great body style
Ford has a tendency to spend a ton in R&D but very little in advertising. Prime example is the Lincoln Blackwood... They spent somewhere in the neighborhood of 500-800 million to develop such a platform but budgeted less than 10 million in advertising. so naturally word never really got out. Much is the same with this retro Thunderbird. I think they just wanted to make a few years run with the platform then dump it all together. Personally, I really do like it as well.
i dig it, ive got an 01 mustang gt vert lots of fun and not like earley convertables that leak and dont fit!
I don’t care if it’s a Lincoln LS. I love it 😅
That Lincoln LS / Jag platform the Thunderbird was based on was a great driving platform.
The cars resale value goes down significantly if the car doesn't include the hardtop
That Thunderbird is a keeper. Especially in that color.
