It's funny that I stumbled across this video just now. Last week I bought a second-hand GX85 (GX80 in Germany) with a 20mm f1.7 lens as a camera that I can carry with me every day and take with me on trips. I've also been shooting with a LUMIX G9M2 for a year now and especially when I'm hiking I realize that the camera has a lot weight for an M43 sensor. That's why I wanted an even smaller camera on which I could also use all my lenses if necessary and what can I say? The GX85 is the perfect model for excursions or simply for everyday use in a backpack. For important shoots like cars, events or sports, the G9M2 still comes out often enough, but the GX85 is simply the better choice for taking beautiful shots of everyday life. I would also like to take a trip to Japan in the future, so double thumbs up for this video!

Sounds like a really cool experience and I'm sure the family was grateful to have you showing them around! I've done 2 japan trips with m43 gear, and after the more recent one I decided to jump ship for Sony E. I've picked up a GX85 as a sort of last gasp to see if I can make m43 work, and I think it's tough for my personal situation unless we see new bodies and renewed lens support. I'm finding that the boom in 3rd-party support for E-mount and market situation from 2020 onwards really put m43 a generation behind.

With the 12-32mm it will go into a medium size jacket pocket and nobody even knows I have it. Your photowalk in Durham just came up on my feed. I presume it is because I was just researching Lumix cameras, including the GX85. Plus I live 20 miles away in Raleigh. Then I saw this video about Japan. My wife is there right now because that is where she was born. The excuse for this trip is a high school reunion. Anyway, I have been to Japan many times in the last 35 years. I have taken many different types of cameras from a Canon 5D to X100S to Canon G16 and early this year a Canon 6D2 (because we went on a ride on an ice breaker in Hokkaido). On the next trip, I will take my Olympus EM1 mark iii, which is weather sealed, relatively compact, and fully featured. The real question is which lens(es)? Compact primes or multipurpose zoom? I did enjoy taking my 5D and 2 primes several years ago. I think the motto will remain "keep it simple". And also, if it rains, "take a break".
