  • Google Drive and OneDrive for Business are two of the most widely used cloud storage services for personal and professional use. Both offer a convenient way to store, sync, and share files and folders across devices and platforms. However, there may be several reasons why an individual or an organization might want to migrate from Google Drive to OneDrive for Business, such as cost, security, integration, or functionality.
Migrating from Google Drive to OneDrive for Business can be a simple or a complex process, depending on the size and complexity of the data and the user preferences. It involves planning, preparation, execution, and verification of various tasks and steps, such as:
Assessing the current Google Drive data and identifying the business scopes and deadlines
Using the SharePoint Migration Manager to migrate diverse types of files and folders.
Configuring the OneDrive for Business settings and setting up the necessary prerequisites
Migrating the files and folders from Google Drive to OneDrive for Business
Validating the migration results and resolving any issues or errors
In this article and training video, we will provide an overview of the best practices and recommendations for migrating from Google Drive to OneDrive for Business using the Migration Manager in the SharePoint admin center. We will also discuss some of the familiar challenges and pitfalls that you might encounter during the migration process and how to avoid or overcome them.
    Limitations:
Some of the limitations on Google Drive to OneDrive for Business migration using the SharePoint Migration Manager are:
You need to install the Microsoft 365 Migration app in your Google Workspace account and authorize it to access your Google Drive files and folders.
You need to have a Google account that has read access to the Google Drive accounts you want to migrate.
You cannot migrate permissions or membership of Google Shared Drives, you need to manually re-establish them in the destination document libraries in OneDrive for Business.
You cannot migrate some types of files that are not supported by OneDrive for Business, such as Google Docs (.gdoc), Sheets (.gsheet), Slides (.gslide), Forms(.gform), etc.
You have a file size limit of 15 GB for cloud scenarios.
Google migration is not available for users of the Government Cloud, including GCC, Consumer, GCC High, or DoD.
Permission issue: Files marked as restricted will not be copyable nor migrated.
Migration Manager Google is not available for users of Office 365 operated by 21Vianet in China.
