I’m 58 and have been a huge music listener, record collector and concert/festival goer all my life and I just discovered Ghost recently. Wow. Tobias’ production is nothing short of stunning - pristine and flawless. Ghost is the the amalgamation of all the best rock music ever recorded to this point in time and I feel like I can hear the influence of every iconic rock band that ever existed. Also, as someone recovering from a lifetime of religious brainwashing, I love the use of church iconography and the Ghost lore to probe the depths of organized religion’s unfathomable hypocrisy and the harm it’s caused and continues to cause so many. I only wish I had heard of them a couple of cycles earlier. But at least now I have everything!!
Happy for your awakening.. Welcome to the real world.. It's all about living this life we're sure we're gonna get, in the best way possible. Ghost for me, is one of the many good things in my life. 🙂Enjoy!
The lyrics of Cirice are really sinister. It's like a cult leader, drawing you in, making the one being sung to feel like they aren't alone and the singer can see them for who they really are, but they are also taking advantage of them. I think the music video is also good at supporting that. - the video for it is really cool. Also - I've been a massive Ghost fan since 2016. Finally went to my first Ritual this year - one of the best live performances I've ever to - and I've been going to shows for nearly 20 years now.
Yep same here, bought their first album on day one and was at their first tour two times ! They've had alot of changes throughout the years but I must say the latest album is very, very tasty !
Massive song guys.. and great reaction This was from the "Meliora" album released in 2015. The song won the Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2016. Ghost almost always operates in cycles, and has a huuuuge lore that surrounds the band. This would take more than a single comment field to cover, so I'll give you a few short notes. A cycle consists most often of the release of an album, and then the band touring. Ghost is virtually a one man act, as the only actual member of the band is Tobias Forge. He writes all of the music.. Sometimes alone.. sometimes co-writing with others. If you wanted to attend a Ghost ritual (concerts are called rituals) you just missed out on the final shows of the Re-Imperatour in Australia. So you will have to wait for the next cycle. The musicians playing on the album are not the same people that are touring. The ones on stage are hired session musicians, and all of them are called Nameless Ghouls. The main vocalist and front man is "new" for every cycle. First album (Opus Eponymous) had Papa Emeritus I (killed).. Second album (Infestissumam) had Papa Emeritus II (killed).. Third album (Meliora) had Papa Emeritus III (killed).. Fourth album (Prequelle) had Cardinal Copia and fifth and latest album (Impera) had Papa Emeritus IV(Copia was ascended to full Papa from last cycle). All members wear masks when performing.. The Ghouls masks do have the lower parts of the face exposed as for those who do backing vocals. Papa has a complete prosthetic mask, covering the head, that are fitted to move somewhat with the jaw. Tobias is of course the man behind all the Papa characters, but all main vocalists have had their special habits and flaws, so on stage.. Tobias does not act Papa.. He IS Papa.. 🙂 Where you want to take this Ghost train next depends.. The Ghost catalog contains a variety of genres.. If you'd like to continue on their latest album, "Impera", you should at least listen to "Call me little sunshine" (Grammy nominee), "Kaisarion", "Hunter's Moon" or "Griftwood".. Harder stuff? 🤘🏻Check out "Mummy Dust" from the "Meliora" album or "Faith" from the "Prequelle" album.. Wanna do poppy stuff? Do "Spillways" from the "Impera" album. More into the slow ones? Check out "He is" from the "Meliora" album, the beautiful "Life Eternal" from the "Prequelle" album, or "Darkness at the heart of my love" from the "Impera" album. Feel like dancing? Do "Dance Macabre" from the "Prequelle" album 😊 Finally.. I challenge you to try "Twenties" from the "Impera" album for some metal reggeaton. Remember... if you have Ghost, you have everything. 😉 Looking forward to the next one.
But when in character, Tobias portrayed different quirks and habits that was special to that character... Papa Emeritus II was different from Papa Emeritus III 😊 aso
Ghost really hit the mark here with this one. Catchy, clean, and tightly woven. His vocals really grind out perfection. I bet when they came out from recording this they knew they had something. It reminds me of Slayer for some reason...
I like rather heavy, dark, tehnical stuff - Meshuggah, Tool, Opeth, Mastodon, Black Sabbath... But I must admit, Ghost is fucking awesome. I can't resist the warmth and passion they deliver LIVE! Watch any performance live from Mexico - absolutely mindblowing!
They just wrapped up their US Tour last month. Don't worry, they're currently one of the hardest working bands around. They'll be back out and back to the states early next year, I'll bet. Definitely see Ghost live. 🤟🧙♂️🤟
Such a great song. I saw them during their Death tour in 2019 and it was a great show. In this song, the use of the Devil's note (the flat 5th) is really present. It's really Black Sabbathish.
Ah I got to see Ghost for the first time a couple of weeks ago. What a massive show & amazing how the stage goes up & gets broken down. And how Tobias sings through that mask is other worldly lol
Ghuleh/Zombie Queen PLEASE!!! It's one song but kind of feels like 2 songs combined. The first part is actually a little slower with a lot of piano. The second part picks up pace and to me has a feel of some surfer rock similar to The Beach Boys. Probably my favorite song by Ghost.
This was the song that got me into Ghost. Glad you found it enjoyable as well. That being said.. I am curious.. as a composer has this exposure to metal bands had any impact on your compositions or given you any ideas for future material? Metal takes much influence from classical music and for it to have a mutual reciprocal impact on classical music going forward would be perfect. I know metal has many subgenres and styles and such.. but I am sure there will be something in there to inspire.
Love the banter as always and so so happy you guys are reacting to more Ghost and enjoying it! This song is about the church and religion, cleverly disguised as a love song Tobias said.
This song gives me goosebumps. Please do 'From the pinnacle to the pit' next, would love to see what Judson says about the bass line as it's incredible.
I need you guys to do more Ghost, especially something from Impera album, maybe Respite on the Spitalfields or even Twenties (now that one will trow you in for a loop 😂). I just love this band, creative and talented also hilarious live and behind the scenes.
Hard to choose but I think respite is probably my favourite off the new album - love the guitar solo in it, the lyrics and the call back to Imperium at the end aswell *darkness at the heart is a fav too!
Great reaction, need to do some more from ghost like square hammer, ratts, dance macabre, little sunshine, etc. All are catchy songs. Keep up the good work.
They were on tour in the US recently, then Mexico and South America. I think the are in Australia now. I will definitely see them when they are heading back to Sweden. Great reaction and analysis! 😀👍🏼
There was a lot of Elliott on the good will hunting soundtrack. He even got nominated for an oscar for Miss misery! The same year my heart will go on was nominated....
never hated ghost. Saw them in 2012 opening up for Opeth and Mastodon. Loved their first album but felt the second fell a little flat and thought they would go off into obscurity but then Meliora came out and WOW. EVERY SONG is a banger and Cirice is their best song IMO. I've travelled to Sweden to see Ghost headline the 30th Anniversary of the Sweden Rock Festival, which they headlined. I now consider Ghost one of the best rock bands of all time.
I just saw them for the first time a month or so ago in Austin. Amazing performance. I'm 53 and have been to a lot of concerts. Tool hands down tops the list singlehandedly (a spiritual experience). But Ghost was great.
Every time I hear Judson do the "greeeeat measures" intro, I can't help but think of Strange Magic by ELO. Not sure why, but it seems to follow the same tune in my head.
I don’t know anything other than his pants are square is my extent of knowledge concerning SpongeBob as well. This is my first Ghost experience. No idea why it happened today but there you have it 🤘🏻💥🔥🙏🏻
Enjoying y’alls reactions. I’m not an audio guy, but I think something was off on this video. Judson was coming through the left speaker Richard was coming through the right speaker. Was actually pretty distracting. Like the stereo channels were reversed.
I dig it!. Y'all should do the band 3 INCHES OF BLOOD doing 'Look Out', literally an original tribute to Ronnie James Dio. No one has done this song and that pisses me off.. lol
You literally just missed the US leg of their tour. But I think that'll be the end for this cycle as they've done a lot of shows for the most recent album. They'll be back around though...I'm in the UK and I've seen them about 10 times over the past 12 years or so (including at festivals). Excellent live band and there's nothing like them at all
Day is always a little bit better with you two. Me like Ghost too. A bit same as Richard said, it took a long time for me to "appreciate" Ghost and this song, Cirice, was that one piece of music that got me interested. Still, a bit yes/no type of a band for me, lots of good, lots of not so good. But that´s just me.
May i suggest reacting to Tesseact - Dystopia? They craft a really nice prog metal, i would dig for an opinion by the two of you, especially in matter of time signatures and composing
I avoided Ghost for the longest time. I've known about them since they first were cool, when they had released their first album, but somehow it never clicked with me. Until this weekend, and I fell down the rabbit hole.
Some people have discussed the lyrics already in the comments. I'd like to add that the music video for the song makes you favor the interpretation that this is Satan (or someone speaking for him) seducing you to his side, but at the same time it mocks the church by using the same predatory language to manipulate insecure people and offering understanding ("I can feel the thunder that's breaking in your heart, I can see through the scars inside you"), offering relief from the guilt ("i know your soul is not tainted, even though you've been told so" this verse also denies the original sin which Christianity assigns each one of us), and persuading you that you have no other option, really, you're doomed if you do not accept our lord and saviour jesus chr i mean Satan ("can't you see that you're lost without me?")
Since you've done Lorna Shore, you definitely HAVE TO do Infant Annihilator - Blasphemian. Would be very interesting to see your reaction to that song, the musicianship is incredible. All the members are MASTERS of their craft

Any semblence of Emerson Lake & Palmer "Tarkus" to you? My dad who is 64 showed me that album.
You nailed the description. Wish I had a dollar for every time I go: "This part is 100% Van Halen" or "This riff is pure Journey".

"Trust" by Konvent is another great, although much heavier, song with the same lyrical theme.
Yep, the song was written about the catholic church apparently
Ghost is suuuuuuuch a great band, really really REALLY suggest seeing them live, in-fucking-credible
I just saw Ghost like 1 or 2 months ago (live in the North-Eastern US)
Alot of ppl seem to like to hate on Ghost 😂 I got into them from their first album release and have loved seeing their progression in their sound.
Yep same here, bought their first album on day one and was at their first tour two times ! They've had alot of changes throughout the years but I must say the latest album is very, very tasty !
This is double reaction channel. Richard reacting to Judson playing piano and Judson reacting recorded music.
Duh.
That's the premise... lol
And the point of this channel 😂
Enjoy
"Cirice" - as I understand it, Old English for the word "church."
Anglo-Saxon, I believe yes it’s literally the church of Satan I think in this song
Massive song guys.. and great reaction

Perfectly said!
If You Have Ghost is an excellent cover ! Love all the covers and Impera
Wait this confused tf outta me 😅 so is Tobias the main vocalist? This song is the only one I've heard / liked from them.
Yes, Tobias has been the lead vocalist all the time 😊
But when in character, Tobias portrayed different quirks and habits that was special to that character... Papa Emeritus II was different from Papa Emeritus III 😊 aso
Please do a full cover of between the bars!! I would love that
Ghost really hit the mark here with this one. Catchy, clean, and tightly woven. His vocals really grind out perfection. I bet when they came out from recording this they knew they had something. It reminds me of Slayer for some reason...

Nice one! Two weeks ago I saw Ghost live here in Chile. By far one of the best-sounding shows I've seen.🤘
They just wrapped up their US Tour last month. Don't worry, they're currently one of the hardest working bands around. They'll be back out and back to the states early next year, I'll bet.
Definitely see Ghost live.
🤟🧙♂️🤟
Elliott Smith! Got it in the first 2 secs, great track
Between the bars
His face of approval shows right away. Priceless
Tobias is a great composer, I must say
Definitely one of my favorite songs by them. I would do year zero next.
Heard
Such a great song. I saw them during their Death tour in 2019 and it was a great show. In this song, the use of the Devil's note (the flat 5th) is really present. It's really Black Sabbathish.
Honestly, the opening sounds very much like something Jeff Hanneman would have written
Total fan of this channel.....keep these videos comin!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great guys! Keep it up. Love the ghost reactions
Ah I got to see Ghost for the first time a couple of weeks ago. What a massive show & amazing how the stage goes up & gets broken down. And how Tobias sings through that mask is other worldly lol
i love the elliot smith piano
Ghuleh/Zombie Queen PLEASE!!!

Me too
Metal is really just down tuned classical anyway 🙂
Ghost is a metal-ABBA
Not wrong. It's a really good blend of many styles.
Love the banter as always and so so happy you guys are reacting to more Ghost and enjoying it! This song is about the church and religion, cleverly disguised as a love song Tobias said.
Saw them live for the first time this year, and I can tell you, Ghost does not disappoint
This song gives me goosebumps. Please do 'From the pinnacle to the pit' next, would love to see what Judson says about the bass line as it's incredible.
100%% con clavi too
Love all your reviews, especially this one as I got to enjoy seeing Ghost live a week ago. What a show!

Elliot Smith was an amazing artist...
They were on tour in the US recently, then Mexico and South America.
I think the are in Australia now. I will definitely see them when they are heading back to Sweden.
Great reaction and analysis! 😀👍🏼
They've finished their tour and Tobias is now going back to start recording for the new album.
There was a lot of Elliott on the good will hunting soundtrack. He even got nominated for an oscar for Miss misery! The same year my heart will go on was nominated....
Pretty fitting for friday 13th in an October
Fantastic album
Awesome video, nice am now a fan of Ghost
i love the song too!

Wow didn’t expect this vid to open with some Elliott smith. That was a lovely surprise
I used to skate🛹 to this song after my best friend showed me. It’s so good!
2:40
"I Believe That It's An Old English Word"
You're correct, Richard
Cirice is the old English word for "Church"
I keep expecting him to suddenly speak with a British accent after he's done listening.
I just saw them for the first time a month or so ago in Austin. Amazing performance. I'm 53 and have been to a lot of concerts. Tool hands down tops the list singlehandedly (a spiritual experience). But Ghost was great.
"I'm ready, I'm ready, I'm ready, I'm ready, I'm ready, I'm ready, I'm ready, I'm ready, I'm ready..."
just missed them, they were in North America august/september, Now you have to wait a year :D
WOOO the snuffed on sight shirt!
Every time I hear Judson do the "greeeeat measures" intro, I can't help but think of Strange Magic by ELO. Not sure why, but it seems to follow the same tune in my head.
Hey Richard. Do a live version of Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner. Iron Maiden is a must for Judson. He will love it, I guarantee it. 🖖🤘
Call Me Little Sunshine and Hunter's Moon are two bangers from the last album that I consider essential
Miss misery and thank you. Elliott Smith is everything that means something. The saddest man
Funny thing is that they tour more in the US than in Sweden lol
I love Elliott Smith. Saw him at Glasto.
They just finished U.S tour. Maybe next year you'll catdch them. They're a great live band,
Tobias is a genius
OMG I love how he looks like Ben Folds!!!!!
Between the Bars. I didn't guess it but really kicked myself for not knowing. Personal favourite for personal reasons.
I’m ready. I’m ready. I’m ready. 🧽
They take the winter off. Tobias is very family oriented and Christmas is sacred with them
Sure it is lol
Hey, ill buy you guys beer if you are coming to Sweden, welcome any day.
I don’t know anything other than his pants are square is my extent of knowledge concerning SpongeBob as well. This is my first Ghost experience. No idea why it happened today but there you have it 🤘🏻💥🔥🙏🏻
seen em a couple times live, their solo concerts are better than festival shows if you can choose
The bass drum sounds like a Timpani :-D
Ren money game 3 just dropped, mostly a piano based track..amazing!
I think it's a Timpani that they use for the big bass drum sound, you can see it in the official music video for the song.
Only at 2:20, haven't even mentioned Ghost yet and I already love you guys 😂
Cool video.
Danzig - 'Her Black Wings' might go down well
It's all about the devil possessing this girl... basically. But as usual there's layers to it. Great song.
Ofcourse, go to Sweden. Work on that! 🇸🇪
Enjoying y’alls reactions. I’m not an audio guy, but I think something was off on this video. Judson was coming through the left speaker Richard was coming through the right speaker. Was actually pretty distracting. Like the stereo channels were reversed.
He should hear Ulcerate’s version of the song that they play entirely with spoon playing ☝️
Nah. I'm just not into that. I want the actual song.
Ghost are cheese on toast, but i like grilled cheese snacks.
Would love to hear Judson's spin on the Spongebob theme tune...
I dig it!. Y'all should do the band 3 INCHES OF BLOOD doing 'Look Out', literally an original tribute to Ronnie James Dio. No one has done this song and that pisses me off.. lol
🔥🤘😜🔥
do a reaction to Ghost Spillways please
You literally just missed the US leg of their tour. But I think that'll be the end for this cycle as they've done a lot of shows for the most recent album. They'll be back around though...I'm in the UK and I've seen them about 10 times over the past 12 years or so (including at festivals). Excellent live band and there's nothing like them at all
please do HIM´s Sleepwaliking Past Hope reaction!! beautiful keys in taht song
Yes! So beautiful. A journey. I love HIM/VV so much 🖤
Day is always a little bit better with you two. Me like Ghost too. A bit same as Richard said, it took a long time for me to "appreciate" Ghost and this song, Cirice, was that one piece of music that got me interested. Still, a bit yes/no type of a band for me, lots of good, lots of not so good. But that´s just me.
Kiss the Go Goat
11:25
That actually was a timpani drum that they'd used in this song
The voices coming from the wrong side in my headphones was disorienting lol
🔥🔥🔥👍🏽
my man likes the timpani I think
This is their best song
All their songs are amazing.
The 'guitar solo' that he said didn't touch a pick was actually a synthesizer solo. ;)
The original term is:
"Ready ready freddy to rock and roll".
👍👏👌🇬🇧
Rats would be intresting for next ghost song
Black Abbath 😅
Greets from Slayer
This song does sound huge. Except for the vocals, which is an interesting contrast.
Mastodon - The Czar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Korn! Rammstein! 😊🙋🏼♂️
If you have ghost....
You have everything,but money😅
👍🇸🇪
My interpretation is that its a cult leader trying to draw in his next victim.
you’re not wrong! it’s about how the catholic church manipulates its members into believing they are lost and meaningless without the church
Since you've done Lorna Shore, you definitely HAVE TO do Infant Annihilator - Blasphemian. Would be very interesting to see your reaction to that song, the musicianship is incredible. All the members are MASTERS of their craft
Don't feel too bad, I don't get SpongeBob references either.
