With beautiful cinematography, Ukon the Samurai tells the little-known story of one of the first converts of Christianity, Ukon Takayama who happened to be a samurai. Even Japanese people have very little knowledge about him. So, the film does a pretty good job of explaining what his life is all about in a short period of time. The film also briefly discusses the spiritual component missing in Japanese people's lives over the material success which people often find emptiness.
Thank you for sharing the faith of Takayama Ukon. A Samurai who left a faith legacy for Japan. God definitly saw his faith and doesn't leave the remnant. To pray more for Japan to be touched by GOD
The mighty samurai-ronin, and author of the "Book of Five Rings", Shinmen Musashi Fujiwara Nu Genshin, was indirectly influenced by the example of Ukon. Before he wrote the "Book of Five Rings", he climbed Mount Iwato to pray to "Kannon", Buddhists' goddess of mercy, which is an equivalent to the Christian Virgin Mary. Although the Japanese seemingly prayed to her as a pagan goddess, but that was actually the way of the secret Japanese Christians, to conceal their activity from the great persecutions of the ruling Japanese emperor at that time. While seemingly being Buddhists in their attires and practices, they are actually praying to God and to our Lord Jesus Christ.
Virgin Mary is Mother of Christ and Mother of Those who keep the commandments of God and the Testimony of Christ according to Revelations chapter 12!!! Great offense to God , comparing his Holy Mother to a pagan goddess
You could at least have strived for some orthographic correctness.... Some mistakes are embarrassing and right now are considered common knowledge! Like the name Nobunaga, not Nobunga! Damn! This is like spelling Augustus Austus!... Embarrassing...
Yes. In Japan they were undermined by the existing authority, whereas they were the ones doing the persecution in countries they colonized & conquered in the name of god, king & country.
@@MustAfaalik , Michael white. A human Frailty wanting to conquer and cause suffering. Men have done so every where for all reasons under the sun. Not many followed the word of Jesus Christ. But those who do and did follow Jesus path.... they showed the true path towards love , kindness and enlightenment. I think Ukon was one of those men and a Samurai no less, how beautiful to see one who is trained in fierceness and to kill become so bright and beautiful in the word of Christ. Amen. If only all of us trained the mind, body and spirit in that way, all would find the harmony needed in life.
@@richarddeerflame The main issue is that the contemporary Abrahamic faith does not emphasis cultivation of the mind as in meditation but focus more on worship. Having said that, there were past Christian & Sufi saints who led virtuous lives did achieved some level of spirituality.
