As soon as I saw this on @emmymade I had to try it!! I had to.
And I'm glad I did because... well it was actually good.
This is the .35 cent impossible burger.. the absolute cheapest way to enjoy and impossible burger!

All you care about is money. You'll pimp snake oil if you get a dollar.
12oz of Impossible Meat is much closer to 1lb of regular ground beef than people realize since ground beef shrinks by close to 25% during cooking, this isn't the case with Impossible Meat which only loses a small amount of weight from the coconut oil rendering out.
YES very true!
It shrinks because water is added to the meat
@@lechatbotte. That's meats reason for shrinking too; the water content.
😱 I never thought about this
Exactly! Whenever I "veganize" or "vegetarianize" a meat based recipe I never have trouble when using Impossible as a 1:1 ratio (1oz of Impossible to 1oz of real meat).
I mix my burgers with 50% black beans (ground up in a food processor) similar to what you did in another episode with mushrooms. It doubles the "meat" for about $1.
That's actually a great idea. Should work whether you're doing plant based meat or not too. Diced peppers are also a great addition
This is a great idea. You can add beans, mushrooms, chopped kale, spinach, anything really that’s healthy
This is a great idea, thanks! Simple, cheap, healthy
Cool idea! Personally I'd definitely add something like a Worcester sauce, soy sauce, mushroom powder, or something umami to make it more 'meaty' tasting. Def gonna try something like this tho!
@@bemccune7671 I’ve done this now - I add a teaspoon of marmite, a teaspoon of smoked paprika, and a tbsp of beet powder. Works very well
Try a Mississippi slug burger. It uses bread crumbs in the meat to make it cheap and adds a little crunch to the patty.
Thank you for always trying interesting things with vegan food! Watching your videos has made me much more creative with my vegan meats and improved my cooking for sure!!
You're so welcome and thank you!
Monica seems like such a genuine person 😊 And I love this experiment and this would be great for tight budgets!
12 oz. Its the great shrinkage trick that food manufacturers are using to deceive you that things aren't more expensive. A ton of products are now a few ounces less, but for the same price or more.
My thoughts aswell. Most people probably don't even realize you don't get a pound, but that lower unit price makes it much more competitive sitting next to the per lb prices in the meat aisle.
This is the first time I caught emmymade's video first, so i knew exactly what you were going for! I think you nailed the texture she had, even though I initially thought it might be off a bit since impossible meat is a bit less dense uncooked.
Whenever I buy impossible burgers, I get the 6 frozen patties (24 oz) for $11 at Walmart. It'd be more work to thaw those out but cheaper to start!
Anyway, I'd still prefer homemade black bean burgers in order to save money. You can really make those super cheap!
I actually made perfect pancakes without the not right ones recently. It doesn't matter to this video but I have never done that before. I was quite proud of myself
Time to catch up on your videos after my holiday trips and I am super excited to do a little marathon - your videos are just so great!
I must say, this concept is pretty wild but I am even more impressed it didn't turn out too bad :D
.
Have a great end of the month! Lots and lots of love!
Margaret!! Hi!! Thank you so much for always being here!
Yeah this one was a little wild hahaha but still not bad at all.. I was pretty shocked at how good it actually came out!
Hope ya had a good holiday!!! Lots of love back
I make something VERY similar to this but I add a drained can of corn. I've always thought of them more like fritters. I've used both the impossible and beyond bricks for it. I sometimes mix in a mixture of xfirm silken tofu & pureed beans (usually black). I generally use fresh oat flour (that I just make myself in a food processor) & I then add a little bisquick mixture, the amount of which depends on how liquidy it is. I generally skip the just egg, but I've made it with and without the "egg".
Great idea. Thanks for working it out.
Great content, very inspirational. Thank you!
The stuff you come up with! Keep up the great work :)
Awesome stuff, dude! Thanks😊👍
Dude i remember when u were 17k subs i love u awesome to see u grow
brilliant...as always!
Just tried this and it’s like having a fast food burger. Love it!
Make sliders with Hawaiian rolls and season them like pastrami?? Sausage?? Oh, the ideas are endless.
I wonder what would happen if you used 1Tbsp vital wheat gluten in the place of 1 Tbsp flour...hm
Love it will try 🤘😊
I watched Emmy’s video earlier and was fascinated. Thanks so much for making a vegan version.
Do you think it would be possible to make some and then wrap and freeze for later?
I was just thinking that😅 and maybe put some parchment or plastic wrap in a muffin pan and then fill and freeze. Pop them bad boys out and wrap or bag them? Or cook them half way and then freeze?
I saw Emmys recipe and didn't make the connection right away! Tried yours as given: absolutely fine! I kept thinking "he's reinvented the McDouble!"
I'm diabetic and follow almost a keto diet, and made a few notes for my second try.
Maybe add some more beef flavoring.
Vital wheat gluten and/or soy flour instead of part or all of flour. Maybe some oat fiber.
If it could be done without turning the burgers into a nasty pile of rubber, perhaps the addition of a little more thickener, such as Tara gum, guar gum, or xanthan gum.
If it wouldn't be cheating, maybe some pea protein or soy protein, to compensate for the "extra" ingredients in the Impossible Burger.
Looks like I have a new kitchen experiment. Wish me luck.
I was also thinking that he could have added some of his usual beef flavoring liquid to increase the burger taste, since the “cream/milk” and flour would just dilute the mock beef flavor.
I still like the idea you did a while ago of adding carrots! We make six good sized burgers and freeze four of them:). I’ll be playing around with this and a few of the other comments. Thank you for all your crazy ideas 💙
What if you used an egg ring or something like that so it could be a bit thicker instead of the product spreading out as much?
Thanks for suggesting this, I tried it and can verify it works great! With nonstick on the ring it releases easily and after a minute or so can be pulled to use for the next burger.
You are the master my friend. I'm surprised you haven't started your own line of plant-based products.
Be true artist of the palate
Love seeing the two of you!
If only I could cook that looks like an absolute dream of a hamburger, you guys make it look really easy. Thank you very much for the show, cheers
maybe adding some mushrooms or tpp would make it have a better consistency
Way back when... schools had a straight up soy burger. I was not vegan then but dang it was good. I just wish I could find something similar. Now everything attempts to replicate meat but the soy burger was dang good in it's own right. I always ate it instead of the meat. Just very good flavor.
I remember eating burgers in elementary school that I am sure must have had TVP in them. I loved them and have always wanted to find a burger with that taste again.
Ah, I've been missing that taste. My school just called them "burgers" so I'm not sure they were 100% non meat. I think that filling was in pizza puffs too. Glad I have company. 😄
love the video man
Thank you so much!!
I was surprised to see how this turned out. Great idea!
Yes! I like more this style video where you talk to the camera and also voice-over in the background at points. I feel more immersed lol. Keep up the awesome content regardless!! :P
Just wanted to say I love your content man!!! I appreciate all the vegan recipe ideas you provide!
I appreciate that! Thank you!!
Those came out awesome!
I think there’s a ton of potential there to experiment with different flavors.
My mom always stretched ham urger with oats and an egg. I wonder if oats would be good with plant based burger meats. Or what if you ground up red rice for red rice flour to ammend the plant based meat?
Oats are fine in vegan burgers, lots of recipes call for them. Personally I just use tvp if I want a meaty but cheap burger.
I used oats in my vegan mushrooms burgers
I make an entirely oat-based vegan breakfast sausage and it works amazing! The recipe is from an old 40’s rationing cookbook
@@user-zy1fz4rw4h oh cool! I should look for oat based sausage recipes. I buy a vegan apple sausage that is plant based, it really tastes nothing like meat but I love it anway. I'd probably love an oat based sausage with sage and apples or applesauce. Omg what about the addition of apple butter for Fall sausage flavor? Yum!
We've added bulgur wheat to ground meats. Steamed it, then added when frying the meats. One part bulgur to 2 parts meat worked for us.
Hey Mark, would you be willing to try making an equivalent of Soy Curls from scratch? I can't seem to get them in my country, but I'm super curious when everyone raves about them!
A good thing to try in this vein is a savoury french toast with a nice dense bread like sourdough, Nigella Lawson's Parmesan French Toast isn't vegan but is a great example.
You can add other things like black beans, garbanzos, caramelized onions, oats ...
Really not vegan but you made me enjoy a lot of great vegan foods so listen up vegan meat companies sponsor this guy because he is making those who aren't vegan buy vegan meat.
Instead of flour, try grape nuts. They soak up a ton of water, created bulk, and has a lot of fiber!
I'm excited to try this, so many memories of grandmas "stretching meat" to feed families... using oats, rice, etc....
But hey Mark. Would you be open to doing an episode solely on vegan condiments and/or sides??
Very interesting indeed!
That's a really interesting concept, thinning impossible meat out. I definitely would experiment with other things than Just Egg. It annoys me that you have to use the whole thing of Just Egg within one week of opening it and it cost like 4 bucks. I probably would add some flax seed powder. I would probably put in half as much milk as well or I would add in some finally chopped mushrooms (you can grow blue oysters really affordably and the substrate quickly pays for itself). I do love the Next Gen milk. Definitely the closest replication of whole milk on the market.
What substrate do you use for growing the blue oysters?
JustEgg is $5.99 here in Dallas.
@@joeb4142 Yeah most of the time I download a coupon to get a dollar off and I wait for it to go on sale for it to get near 4 dollars.
@@tigernips I use pine bedding from pet stores!
I recommend looking into making homemade just egg from mung beans it's way cheaper and it's a lot of product.
Soon as she mentioned “Soft” meat only I thought maybe just back off on some of the extra liquid added to make a thicker mixture for a more thick “Meaty” texture which I bet would be a tad better overall, I believe you kinda mentioned it in your last lil comments too. I know it would defeat the cheapest way of doing it but as you said still be cheap compared to using the impossible meat only. I might try this one day, thanks for the video !!!
Lentils are still around a dollar a pound. I can make a 10 cent plant-based burger from cooked lentils, onion, garlic, leftover brown rice, ground flax seeds, salt, and olive oil. Mix, mold burgers, and brown in a pan. Serve with homemade basil hummus on a bun, or not.
Great video, Mark! We featured your video on my website this week in our "Concessions" area. Link is in my bio!
Aww! I used to really like Steak ‘n Shake burgers. This is awesome! We love cheap here lol.
haven't checked your channel in a while and you still try to replicate meat all day - awesome
you even want to stretch your fake meat.. bro wake uppp
Bro this is what my channel is about hahah what am I waking up from bud?
@@RP-uu7oq just give your husband the lamb he deserves
@@SauceStache your channel is about helping vegans to overcome their urge to eat their natural diet by mimicking animal products. Just because it's the whole topic your channel is about that doesn't make it better don't get the logic here.
@@RP-uu7oq destroying your health by going against your instincts and cravings for animal foods and only eating plants is an actual issue the majority of vegans face just because I'm telling the obvious doesn't make me hysteric
You could make sliders out of them.
I wonder if you use a mold and keep adding to top a little, will it look more like the burger itself?
What do you think of the new protein SLH?
First thing I thought when I saw them in the bun, those look like Steak n’ Shake! Now I can make my own at home since they don’t have any on their menu.
Noti gang
Boom thank you!!
Thanks for making it affordable!
You bet!
I wonder if pancake molds would help achieve a thicker pattie.
i just use can dog food with salt and chilli powder, they taste great, and the kids love them, with dumpster source bread with the green bits scraped off, it makes for a cheap meal, instead of lettuce l use weeds from the garden
When do we get a Sauce Stache and Emmy collab??????
Start getting the word out to Emmy!! I would love to!
Instead of flour, use flavorless standard cornmeal, it will give a much different texture when its on the frying pan..
I know, "Amazon Evil", but they have a Beyond burger clone from "fresh" that's half the price. Worth testing?
Might just use a little lemon or lime juice instead of lactic acid.
Would work perfect!
I wonder if it could be chopped or crumbled to make some sort of stuffed shell filling.
There's something just sooo wrong with pouring milk into a bowl of "meat". I'm feeling all icky lol
Very cool indeed
I live for hearing you say “burger”😝
$8 ?! Impossible meat is only $4.95 at my local Walmart.
I'd love for you and Emmy to collab!
I think doing them as sliders would be the best option. Maybe with some sautéed onions.
Would this recipe work well if I substituted jimmy dean’s sausage
you should try some recipes with okara (soybean pulp)!
GOOD AFTERNOON SAUCYMAN.
I don't know....I don't think I want impossible yogurt lol
I'd love to see more experimentation with this "stretching" concept - what about adding 2 TBSP of flour, and 3 TBSP of wheat gluten? or doing that, skipping the just egg, and adding a bit of methylcellulose?
Plant based meat doesn’t shrink like real meat. So if you cook down real ground it will be about 12 ounces. That is usually the reason
Tofu makes sense because cheap hamburger patties are made with tofu to 'stretch' the meat without losing flavor. I used to love them back in the day.
Vegan is a great lifestyle! Agree?
That is a great hack! I wonder if they'd freeze well.....
I dont know how they would freeze... after cooked they might.. it might actually make a better burger after
They would freeze and then reheat in the toaster!
Sausage seasonings?
@@SauceStache That's what I meant.... after cooking....
The cheapest food you can make is rice, beans, or pasta, but the cheapest food with sustainable nutrition is going to be salad, sandwiches and tacos.
You made something similar to Edjeh, a Middle Eastern egg patty. Next time, add chopped parsley and instead of putting it on a hamburger bun, slide it into a pita and add techina.
I just buy beyond/impossible whichever is on sale at costco. They usually take $4 off during a sale and they turn out to be around $1 or less a burger.
Dang! I get my impossible brg waay WAY cheaper than that ..8 bucks!? Yikes. Just got 2 pkgs at $4.48 each..they were marked down to sell but from $4.98 reg price a pkg. Where are you getting yours?
Could you make a vido on the meat where you make it less runny maybe half the liquid????
I want this in a grilled cheese
This recipe was done during ww2 to stretch meat far…up here in Canada we literally call them meat pancakes and they were pretty common in western Canada .Wish silk would bring some of that almost milk up here….that’s one thing that keeps me from being vegan is that no plant based milk tastes right in my tea or coffee.
Impossible meat has a lot of flavor and can be stretched pretty far. I like to make tacos with 1 cup tvp (dry) and half a package of impossible meat
She used egg for binding purposes. JUST wasn't necessary if it isn't the binder. Flour seems like a bad idea - ground flax would have probably been better and less chalky.
There was such a push against fast food places for adding things to their beef to essentially do exactly this which was make it cheaper and go further. Now coming full circle we have at home cooks doing the same thing. Interesting video just such a strange concept, can't we just eat less meat/fake meat?
Are there vegan sources of lactic acid? I had thought most of it came from byproducts of making yogurt et al.
It's not from milk
Is there a gluten free version?
I love your videos but halfway thru this one it felt more like watching a car accident lmao I can’t believe that pepto looking goo turned into anything edible 🤣
These make me think of savory pancakes
Walmart usually has those packs of impossible burger for $4.99
Emmy is pretty cool; just ask her for the recipe!
you could fry up a massive batch and freeze them..
Is it work it? A straight type black bean burger with none of the additives perhaps better? Great people trying to push the boundaries 💚
why lactic acid?
The recipe is on all the reaction videos on Tiktok. The original video was deleted
Money often costs too much but is easier when you crack the code. -- learn more
I bet they are still tasty. Although I would be tempted to have them with maple syrup. 😂😂😂😂
burgers with maple syrup has always been a favorite pleasure when I used to eat meat. Bacon and maple syrup was especially a treat.
How about tackling a vegan ground chicken that can be formed into Pattie’s, meatballs or whatever. Ya know like your other meat patty’s but chicken.
You should've thrown in straight gluten, soy sauce, nutritional yeast and some black strap molasses: that will add beefy notes and more body.
If the goal is hamburger pancakes, then success. I think I'll stick to Myoko's Now and Zen burger.
👍👍👍👍
