This was a really insightful cosplay log! I was wondering why you opted to use buckram as the interface? Is this to make it easier to wash post cosplay wear?

Thank you! I am a very big fan of buckram, but only in specific contexts. It is really very crisp and thin, and it works very well with odd shapes. It almost functions more like paper than it does fabric. It was great for these particular appliques because I wanted the pleats to remain very stiff, and the buckram kept the diamonds really crisp! But buckram also comes with some real downsides - under pressure it can get crushed, and it doesn't wash well at all. Buckram can be steamed back into place if it's crushed, but it can get messy if its exposed to too much water!
