    Use. A blow dryer so the plastic can conform better to the bag and also be more pliable.

    i swear years ago I saw a pre-made type of kit that would allow you to do just this - turn a shopping bag into a tote or purse. No idea where or when I saw it, but I remember at the time thinking how clever it was. Also wondering, for the D-ring thingies that you screw onto the bag, if you couldn't somehow reinforce that area with some stiff fabric or even a piece of wood veneer (black of course) to keep that area from tearing or ripping? Seems a bit delicate, with that heavy duty hardware there. I have a Hermes shopping bag, and other than sell it somehow, I'd LOVE to do this! (because I'll NEVER own an actual piece of Hermes at their prices!) Such a great idea, thanks for this!

    Thank you for the video! Im trying to make my own I noticed you mentions 6 gauge pic plastic but the link below is for 8 gauge... which do you think makes a better bag? Also I'm hand stitching instead of using a machine.. Thanks for sharing!

    • @thecraf-thome1712
      @thecraf-thome1712  2 года назад +1

      Hi! Thanks for watching! I think either gauge is adequate. There isn’t a big difference in thickness, although if you’re hand stitching I would personally go with the thinner material. It could end up being tough pushing the needle through thicker material. The 6 gauge was out of stock when I added the link. But really either would work great. Hope you enjoy your bag! It’s such a cool project! 💕

    Hey! I love this tutorial! When you added in the 1-inch seam allowance did you truly sew with a 1-inch seam allowance or 7/8ths? I started way too close to the edge and moved into a 7/8th and it looks great so far

    Just didn’t know vinyl could be sewn. I thought it’ll break. Anyways it sounds awfully complicated since all my measures would be metric. The imperial system drives me nuts. Someday I’ll give this a try

  • @melissad8824
    @melissad8824 2 года назад

    Maybe I'm missing the point of the trend but...why not just cover the shopping bag with clear Contact paper instead of having to sew the vinyl? Then there wouldn't be any sewing required. Would it be too flimsy? The flower could be removed first, sprayed with clear acrylic spray to make it waterproof, then hot glue it back onto the Contact covered shopping bag. Add the handles as you did, the foam core board to the interior bottom, and feet.

    • @thecraf-thome1712
      @thecraf-thome1712  2 года назад

      I think you could totally do that! The vinyl, I think, gives it a look of an actual handbag rather than a shopping bag and there may be more longevity to it as well. But there’s no reason why contact paper wouldn’t work. I think the only negative would be where the seams meet at the corners. It would run the risk of the edges peeling up over time and exposing the bag. It would be interesting to see someone try it out though! Thanks for watching! 💕

I’ve never personally tried one, but they do look pretty easy. You can search on TikTok too, and that may help you find it. Thanks for watching!
