Honestly that’s a good attitude to have, some armies got janky stuff like that and you just got to make a fight out of what you can.
I neither play 40k nor get the rules very much but somehow I stumbled upon your channel a year ago and watched every 40k in 40m episode. Your videos are just so good you wanna watch them even if you don't fully get what's going on.

Eldar need that rule update like there's no tomorrow! (And some new minis but that's a different story). Very refreshing to seeing them on the table though!

I find this so ironic as in the video games for warhammer 40k eldar are historically favorited.

Craftworlds are fairly competitive faction atm actually
Eldar used to be the most OP on the tabletop too, but the sun kind of set on them early on in 8th Edition when Dark Reaper spam was double nerfed (they got a points increase, and the "rule of three" was introduced).
But we are not even halfway through 9th and Necrons and SM already need new rules, or someone needs to punch the rules writers for Sisters, Ad Mech, Drukhari, and Orks and fix all the broken in those.
This game is not even fun anymore. Games are won in the list-building phase by picking the most unbalanced options. Failing that, they are won at the roll to go first. What a stupid system.
Maybe Steve’s victories are not in the enemies he defeats, but the friends he makes along the way.
What an uplifting way to view the whole thing. I love it.

Nice to see a faction outside of the usual. Would like to see some Harlequins or Sisters, granted the latter tends to turn into the Morvenn and Celestine power hour with really angry eviscerators in a box.

Yay, eldar! good game, i wish his path to victory wasn't "get slaughtered and score points" but it takes a champ to pull the Eldar to victory. Let us pray for a model refresh and good rules in 2022.
The secret sauce to eldar is fighting eldar is bullshit. Oh you primates though you would win by firing you guns wildly in the air, adorable.
While the Eldar view the humans as over evolved primates and all in all unintelligent... they still take the threat seriously. In a similar way you would take the threat of a Gorilla busting into your apartment wearing full plate armor waving a shot gun around. Primitive... sure... still concerning

Wow I absolutely love Steve's lists because I play an EXTREMELY cloce one to his and it's just so cool to see "my list" do well
Even when the mission is standard fare Play On still manages to make the narrative shine with the players, that's one of the reasons why I love you guys.

for real... they feel so hard outdated atm, maybe almost on par with Tau.
I mean the last 8 editions were pretty kind to them. And the last edition of whfb was also nice to elves
I just took 2nd in a small tournie with them last weekend. They are super underpowered right now, yes, but if you play them very cagey you can still get wins.
You can certainly play them. It is not easy though. But expert crafters is insanely strong.

Yeees, so nice to see Craftworlds on the channel! Very enjoyable game to watch, and very close! But it has to be said, Mike pulled out all the stops to surround the board and get some key banners when Steve was out of position, only to get blasted off the board by turn 4. He was very fortunate to get those charges to keep map control and hold the banners for as long as he did.
If Eldar are going to be the tricksy and evasive race, then their stratagems to do so need to be buffed. 2 CP for -1 to hit is painfully weak when -1 is the most you get anyway.
I just love looking at those Astral Claws. That's one hell of a great-looking army.

Great to see the Eldar on the channel!! My poor Craftworlds are in a tough position. Only started watching but you definitely can't quicken a Wraithseer.....only infantry and bikes...

Agree. You also can't webway strike a wraithseer for the same reason
@@Become_The_Hero yep but at least tactical reserves gives some flexibility there and if you let the opponent into your deployment zone you can ambush with Wraithseer straight into combat from reserves..need to be close to your edge but it works!

Craftworlds have strong psyker characters but I’d say it’s primarily a mobility army

This is my favorite battle of the season so far. So many twists and turns, great plays, an epic rivalry and lovely map to boot.

i agree except the trickery, they didn't really pull and shenanigans the elder just kinda got slaughtered to take points to victory lol. the trick was that while dying they were winning points haha
Well, there are plenty of Eldar to go around, so they should be fine. Seriously though, yeah they played for points, and sometimes that works.

Eldar need a major update, i have a theory that they killed the Ynnari plotline because GW realized if they kept with it they would have to release new Eldar stuff
Additionally want to see how little GW thinks of Eldar? look at the brand new Kill Team website that has the old ranger models as the eldar image, not the nice new ranger models the old ones

Thank you so much, guys, for this dream-come-true battle reports! Cool stories, cool minis, cool terrain, cool music. Watching it on Saturday mornings brings back the childhood WH40k fan in me.
You make me wanna play this game... until I see how much of it is just luck and how little of it is strategy. I mean, all too often a player gets obliterated but wins the match. Doesn't feel like a real battle.
You make an interesting point about how tabling your opponent doesn't guarantee your victory, and you say that it makes it unrealistic. I have to say that I think it is the opposite.
As an example, let's say that the Attackers are Steve and the defenders are the Eldar. Imagine that there is a webway portal nearby, eldar defenders are organizing the evacuation of a few seers councils who have accomplished a mighty psychic ritual here. The Eldar manage to raise the banners on the communication equipment the SM need to relay that information to their own fleet. Even if the SM kill all the Eldar here at this battle, if the Eldar buy enough time, the Intel the SM have will be useless, and the Seers will be able to get off the planet and share their visions with the craft world.
Both armies are lovely, paint-wise.
Steve says they aren’t heretics but I’m sure that Tycho’s Inquisition force already declared them traitoris?
Its a saga as old as time: Imperial commander feels underappriciated and says "screw you guys im gonna start my own imperium with blackjack and chaos!"

Great game. Great to see a classic Eldar army. Great to see two players who enjoy playing. Such a close game too the drama made it a real nailbiter. The four charges bit was hilarious too. Warhammer+ doesn't stand a chance :D
