Nothing like putting on a new Dr Russ vid on a Sunday morning. Really interested in seeing that new rifle in action. Love the camo print! Now I need to go fill up my blast caps full of air. Really cool stuff! Boom.
Jason .... always good to hear from you and I enjoy my blasting caps too ... not sure if the neighbors do ... but I do .... Some good videos coming... Dr. Russ
Dr Russ, I really like your rifle option for 22/25 caliber; however, I still have the same problem as on our last comments a year ago, I do not have any outdoor shooting options. I have over a $1,000.00 tied up in a 22 caliber Benjamin Akela PCP and a Benjamin 22 caliber break barrel plus an air compressor for the PCP. I only have about 35 feet in my basement where I can target shoot. My neighbors have become very against guns of any type; air or powder and they call the police just about every time I have my air rifles out. I sure wish that the USA would adopt the same airgun management systems as the UK and Europe where they have shooting clubs and also farmers who are willing to hire you for pest control against pigeons, rats, squirrels, etc. I live in Georgia, USA and I wish we could get shooting clubs where airguns would be welcome. At age 77, my eye sight isn't where it use to be. So, I am fighting mother nature and human bias against our sport of shooting and I am running out of time to enjoy our sport. As I said early in this message, I believe that the $699.00 setup is a very good offer and option. I just wished I could follow up on it.
Never been hunting there's nit much of that here in Illinois iguana hunting sounds fun wish I had the money to take a trip to Florida, BTW I finally made up my mind on the next PCP I want Air venture avenger bullpup 22 now all I need to do is save up maybe sometime in July
Bert Cochran ... it is good to hear from you. Yes, PCP air rifles cost a lot more than Springers and Break Barrel Piston air guns.... plus they need a compressor or fill tank or both too. At the same time, if you have a good one... you are able to shoot farther and with more consistency and larger calibers.... Dr. Russ
Great video Dr Russ as that was a creative way to make a backstop and gave me some great ideas. I've been looking at getting a air rifle for critter and varmit control as well getting into the fun of the sport as I love shooting but now that a solar farm has took over the backyard fun that has stopped my shooting fun. As being slient too would be a great too not only for the hunting but courteous of neighbors who might be concerned about my shooting although I'm a former law enforcement officer of 13 yrs and I totally agree with your slogan be safe. I've been looking at the FX3 but it's expensive and my buget is super tight these days and you throw in a compressor OUCH!!! But I'm really interested to see your testing and reviews on this Rainson now as I was back and forth on 22 or 25 which this air rifle would be a great option and the price for me is super as you know the FX3 is pricey and using your deal breaker guide this would be a great starter rifle without majorly braking the bank or having to save up for something like the FX3 as PCP to me is the way to go but pricey starting out and if you never really are able to get more into it at least the Rainson would be a great air rifle to have and still enjoy the sport. See more air rifles out there but I guess you can say I'm looking for a great rifle that would bring a fair price should I have to get out of the sport later. It's kind of like buying a great camera for photography and zoom lens which are the pricey as well and where most of your money goes get into photography which I enjoy as well. So to answer your question on promoting or maybe recommending I would give it a couple of reviews as I don't recommend ot sugguest something unless I have put it through my testing and use that I can honestly say I would promote or recommend something as I would be a regular user at least till it may go through a change or upgrade that I no longer use it. So Dr Russ looking forward to your videos on your backstop and the Rainson air rifle as it now on my radar and maybe a better option for me in the near furture possibly at that price. This might even be a new market for getting more people into the sport of air gunning as this could be a great starter package and with a good compressor more people like me might be able to afford getting into the sport without breaking the bank. Be safe and God Bless you both.

@@russjones6497 Yes there is a lot new with the new FX Chronograph. It sets on the bench instead of mounting to the gun. Great video. I have a question. I wash and lube my pellets as you have discussed. For lube, I lay out the .177 pellets flat on a paper towel and spray with WD 40 silicone spray and shuffle them around so everything is covered uniformly. Tonight, I was popping a few pellets, and one broke the sound barrier and scared the life out of me and the neighbors. Is that what is called dieseling? Could a droplet of silicone have settled and dried in the skirt? Have you ever had an accident like that?
Bill ... it is good to hear from you again.... and yes that was dieseling. Your air gun was probably shooting at close to the 1050 fps speed of sound already, and the WD 40 not only put you over the top, but dieseling caused it to go even faster. Velocity over the speed of sound typically causes your pellets to swirl and lose accuracy. Assuming your air gun does not have a method to bring power and velocity down, switch to silicone vs WD 40. The dieseling will end. At the same time, you may still have a problem with velocity and accuracy. If that is the case, just wash your pellets. Dr. Russ
Just FYI, I wanted to let you know that I went to Walmsrt to buy silicone such as yours, and the only thing for sale was a silicone spray under the brand name of WD40. It is a silicone spray indeed. I guess I just had too much of a good thing.
