A lot still believe they need to junk these weedy little whistles and put something on with a bit more beef., Nice paint job though I rarely saw it looking that good.
Just like the 1939 the war was on and 6233 hauled 21 coaches from London Euston to Glasgow and Perth in Scotland she was Built in 1938 at crew works and really took shap in her stride
Saw her in the museum and saw her running butterley to ironville. Live very close by and walk the dogs through the railway museum, past the west shed, once a week or so. Absolutely stunning loco. Not really a big train buff at all, but do like to see the elegant steam loco's, and some of the old blue and yellow BR diesel loco's that remind me of trips to the coast I took with my parents back in the 70s and early 80s
@@RailView_YT It really is. It's not even a mile walk from here, and through a little bit of nice countryside, fields and woods and stuff. They have also a narrow gauge track for the kids, that goes down to a canal that gathers in a bit of a pond where they can regularly see kingfishers and even badger sets right near the tracks. My friend saw this loco last year, and he said she still had her green colour then. This here was right after a fresh coat of what I am told was something called "crimson lake" or something like that. Absolutely stunning to see. We actually walked by while they were taking a bunch of close-up pictures of her. Might even have been the same day as this, or at least was within a week of it.
I worked on the steam tug Goliath for a short while, and the whistle was about 20ft up the funnel. The lagging had deteriorated and fallen off, and the steam would condense in the pipe form rust and when you needed a toot, you had to wait until the hot water and rust had been cleared. This would shower the deck with debris. I had hair in those days and getting hot rusty particles out was a daily occurrence.
There she is! My uncle Percy as an LMS top link man has been on her footplate numerous times as driver, but she was not his favourite of the Princess Coronation Class locos. I think that accolade belonged to Duchess of Hamilton. My personal favourite? Sir William A Stanier FRS....a beauty of a loco, she was cut up at Cash's in Manchester in 1967. Bloody crying shame I call it. Three weeks after Percy visited my grandfather (who was a 45 year veteran driver on the GCR/LNER/BR) he was on the footplate driving Sir William A Stanier FRS.
