As a professional locksmith for over 40 years I find this exceedingly fascinating. Your skill as a wood craftsman and artist are on full display with this type of video. Thanks for sharing your passion with us.
Copying my comment from the other thread: As a beginner... How would you go about picking this one? With my first training locks, see-through padlock and normal padlocks, I am resting the first pin on the tumbling part... This is like a pin tumbler but it doesn't rotate to rest that first pin on top of the mechanism. Here all of the pins need to be lifted at the same time for the board to slide out. To my beginner eyes this almost looks like a safer lock than a modern padlock(!?). Edit: I guess you could MAKE a key for this pretty easily but I'm talking about picking on the spot to be clear. Doable? The weakness I spot, this is just me speculating, is that it's so wide that you could get three L-shaped picks in to lift the pins all at once(?). Since they just go straight up and don't have a point that's too high it'd be easy to hold. If the opening was thinner, the pins heavier or both it'd be less easy(?). Anyway I knew about this design already but it's pretty cool that locks were this good so far back. Would be such a cool feature to hide the key for something like this in another wooden feature in your home. Nice work it looks great.
Hey I made the original for the show! Very cool to see your process. It was one of my favorite props to make, process and finished product. Really happy it caught your eye!

Nicely done with all electric tools, imaging no electric tools I am really proud Assyrian. Thank you for sharing our Assyrian history engineering technology.
I did that with my daughter 20+years ago and she does things around her house now. Put up new molding, painted most of the inside of her house and other things. She keeps buying new tools for new jobs in the house.
I have an older brother, but he did not like to watch our dad repair or do something, that's why I always helped him, and now in my home I am the person who repairs and creates things, but I still have to fight for new tools (usually I'm winning ;p). Now I am getting my husband used to the thought that when we buy a house, a lathe will be in the workshop :)
Andy, thanks so much for recommending The Chosen! I had heard about it around the time of its release but never got around to watching it. It was so uplifting in these weird times. My wife and I were laughing and crying in almost every episode. God bless you and yours, sir.
Andy, I saw the chosen and wondered about that lock! Thanks for showing how Jesus would have made it. Your craftsmanship is wonderful. Thanks also for recommending The Chosen!
Love watching craftsmen at work. Working with wood it reminds me of my grandfather who was a carriage builder by trade and then went on to make cedar furniture. Two things he didn’t use was a mallet and a straight edge. For the former he used his hand (yes a smack hurt) and the second was by eye. He was accurate to at less than a sixteenth of an inch. I did test him once
Andy, this is so amazing!!! Thank you for sharing this with us!!! Only hearing the sounds of the wood as you were working was incredibly mesmerizing! The Chosen is such an amazing show, I’m so glad you shared your journey! Thank you!
I see two small woodworking bench video builds in the near future. Great lock, great detail, and really heartwarming to see you teaching your children. Happy Holiday’s to you and yours and as always thanks for sharing.
Love The Chosen! It was very cool to watch you build this, to see exactly what it was He was building and how it works! Thank you so much for making this video and sharing your skill with us :)
Your work is amazing! Big fan. Can I submit a request? A portable camping kitchen or Chuck Box. We camp or glamp these days (renovating an Airstream for future creature comforts) but until then... this is a project I want to take on too. Would LOVE to see your version.
Having got hooked on Leo Sampson’s Tally Ho rebuild, the similarity in his work and yours is attention to detail and your work ethic. It makes for a beautiful end product.
Am a recent subscriber & native Texan awed by your skill level! You will occupy much of my RUclips wormhole participation! Your children's appearance was a big highlight!
This is seriously cool! I’ve always had a lot of respect for you, but I think that just went up a couple notches for several different reasons. Also, I love seeing you teach your kids about woodworking, even in those small moments!!
Wow. Thank you for sharing! I actual just started the series and watched the episode just yesterday. I was so intrigued with the lock. I wanted to know more. Thank you again. New subscriber here.
I love this creation and I always enjoy your videos. Your skills are fascinating and it is always amazing to see what you create. Thanks for sharing your skills and talent with others through these RUclips videos. I would love to hear the story of how you became interested in and became such a skilled woodworker. Blessing to you and your family during the Christmas season.
You’re right and that crossed my mind as well. I was thinking about putting a channel in it so water can escape. Or just use it somewhere there’s plenty of cover.
It’s really good to see someone who claims to be a carpenter use his hands instead of machining every last piece and calling it hand made. One tip....if you extend your knife wall down the edges you want to cut, it will guide the saw and help stop it drifting to the side. Also, invest in some good chisels. Barr are the best. Hellishly expensive, but you only buy them once. Subscribed.
He could have made the first pin bigger and made them smaller as you go in. Then on the latch part you make the first knotch small for the last pin and increase their size as you go down the line that way the pins can only go into the correct hole.

As an Assyrian and woodworking hobbyist, I did not know about this lock!
Thanks for investing the time and effort in making one.
Love this style with no voiceover. Haven't seen it in a bit
And no music, just the pure sound of tools and work
As a little girl, I used to help my dad in his woodworking shop all the time. I love that you involve your children in your craft.
How noble is carpentry and what a blessing to have your own children as students. May God bless you with skill in everything you do

You must have an interesting life. The Chosen is awesome!

Ya probably got a 👍from the original design builder/patent holder . However you will be held to court one day and meet him! .

Awesome to share this trade with your children. God bless.

Hello fellow Tally Ho addict!
Hey, I just binged the whole first season today! Absolutely loved it.
Love the classic AR style man, simple clean build. Would love to see more lock type builds, maybe some sort of secret compartment dresser or gift box.
Thanks for posting! Very interesting.
Excellent skills nice and clean very well executed
Wow, thanks for sharing that

Very cool project👍👍
Great work sir👍
I am trying to apply at my workshop thanks to share your skills
Love seeing the kids in the shop. Start 'em early, great job dad. The lock is awesome too!
Pretty neat. Being Assyrian, someone figured that out between 2500 and 5000 years ago. Amazing!
Andy, you are an inspiration. Not only as a woodworker but also as a father, husband and Christian. Really enjoyed this video!
The design is really impressive.
Great mini build! Really enjoyed watching that one!!
That’s awesome !! May have to try to make a couple of those for the barn!
This was awesome, thank you! I wondered how this lock worked when I watched that episode of The Chosen! So interesting watching your video!
So satisfying to watch the lock in action!
Your finesse scares me. Lol I work with power tools but I love the hands on that you show! Great work.
Exzellent Work, perfect Result
Watching you work with the expertise that you have is amazing.
That was simply amazing Andy!
That lock is pretty cool!
Oh, I never heard of The Chosen. The first few minutes looked pretty interesting. Thanks!
Merry Christmas!
Very cool project and nicely done. And, The Chosen is an excellent series! Filmed also in the great state of Texas!
You are a amazing craftsman and a very blessed man keep the kids working also they will have amazing memories of it huge thumbs up 👍
Wow!! That is so simple, yet so detailed! I might have to try making one! Also I really like The Chosen, and I'm excited to see season 2.
That's a really neat project.

Nice work! So satisfying to see it work four times in a row at the end. 😄😄😄😄
Fascinating! You make woodworking look easy.
The way you have it is clever but the key tunnel will fill with rain water and rot. It should go upside down with springs behind the locking pins.
You’re right and that crossed my mind as well. I was thinking about putting a channel in it so water can escape. Or just use it somewhere there’s plenty of cover.
Absolutely love it, thank you for sharing 👍

Love the natural sound! Amazing work brother !
I enjoyed watching your helpers! ...such a great way to make memories.
Gonna send this to the lockpicking lawyer? 🤣
Or BosnianBill
to be fair, you could take a compressor to open it... So I don't think it'd be with it still cool though

Wow! Beautiful work! And I love how you were teaching your son. I picture Joseph doing that with Jesus.
Very good. This is so cool. The best to you and yours.
Great seeing you include the kids dude! 👍
I really enjoyed this, when I saw the chosen I didn't get how the lock and key worked at all but this is great :D
I really enjoyed this video! Your talent is awe inspiring! Thanks Dallas for bringing it to my attention.
The key and the pins make such a good sound

Amazing work, very creative
A very interesting project; loved the video. Thanks for sharing. Best wishes.
Great build, drawn from an excellent show!
Wow. That’s awesome Andy!
Amazing work brother!
What keeps the first pin from falling into the hole if it’s pushed in slow?
You noticed that too! That's why he pushes it in quickly. Otherwise I think it would've. That's why keys have angles between each tooth or ridge.
He could have made the first pin bigger and made them smaller as you go in. Then on the latch part you make the first knotch small for the last pin and increase their size as you go down the line that way the pins can only go into the correct hole.
Obrigado! 🇧🇷 Thanks a lot! I will made this one. 😊
