Butchered many hogs with my papaw when I was younger and you are correct... a reciprocating saw is the ONLY way to go. He let me learn the hard way just like you haha... Nothing better than home grown food... You know what's in it and what isn't. To quote a TV show... Meat from the store makes me nervous... And doesn't taste near as good haha.

You need a sharp blade. Long strokes work better. But, you need a sharp blade.
