Ambient jam with the Arturia Polybrute and Soma Cosmos

A live, semi-improvised track performed entirely on hardware.
With some busier jams coming up, I wanted to put another simple, ambient setup on the table. It had been ages since I explored the Polybrute, not because I don't like it, but because it's so big! But the Polybrute has great oscillators, filters, and effects, as well as a layout that is a joy to explore. Paired with the Cosmos, i.e. my favourite looper, and I've actually been making improvisations on this setup for a week.

Soma Cosmos - Asymmetrical drifting loop station
Performed and recorded live to a stereo output, with EQ, compression, and limiting on the master.

If Soma had not done anything else, just the Cosmos, they would still be eternally praised for that.
You never rush the outro, and that is so important when you take us so far away. It's like breaking a hypnosis meditation - you have to count us back to the real world so we don't crash. Really fine work that continues to inspire and delight. Thank you again.
I really like how this somehow reminds me of the way a good classical guitarist coaxes all these different timbres out of a fine concert guitar. It's the same instrument / sound at heart, but with different articulations the tonal changes are like different instruments. So, there's ponticello harpsichord noises, woody sul tasto muted pizzacato plucks. Then, the subtle timbre changes add a lot to the arrangement, but the fact it's the same instrument, bonds it together.
Wonderful! Loved the little hints/homages to the Tron Legacy soundtrack!

AT 3:30ish, the CLASSIC Hosking melancholy with a sublayer of hope comes in . . . and the journey begins. Been listening to your music for years now and I always look forward to the way you put music together with such emotion.
The root sounds like Philip Glass "An Opening" Which is a complement in my humble opinion. Love your playing Jay! PolyBrute is amazing too!
I just added both to my studio.(merry Christmas to me lol) Polybrute comes monday, cosmos got here yesterday. Both are superior in my style of music.(ambient & medatation) beautiful demo song btw. Kudos from Florida USA

Amazing how long we wait for great original patches on great synths. Just this month I am beginning to hear what this Brute and the HydraSynth can do. Obviously the Soma is creating all sorts of strange delays too! This jam is AMBIENCE at its best.

I so rarely hear a Polybrute, esp. for ambient - the two pieces of gear are a great combo.....so beautiful - the way you've eased out of this, creating a dynamic shift in the intensity, top end, etc. .....a really Killer ending

Never had a synth, been playing guitar for decades but have been looking a different synths. This is the kind of stuff I would love to do. There is a used Polybrute on the local CL. I'm having trouble pulling the trigger as this looks very complex for a beginner like myself. I do love this composition you posted. Very Blade Runnerish. :)
Hey, that's great to hear! And thanks for the kind words. This one is a little complex for a beginner, yeah, and with the presets would mean that you often don't know what the parameters are dialled in at. My personal opinion would be to get something that is what-you-see-is-what-you-get, i.e. no presets. They sound just as good, and also teach you how to build synth sounds at the same time. Best of luck!
Very nice use of both the polybrute and the cosmos. I'm trying to get my hands on a cosmos but they seem to be as rare as "unobtanium".

I got mine yesterday from Thomann, waited less than a month.
The matrix of the Poly and Matrix brutes is incredible, your patch doesn't sound like a normal Arturia patch....thankfully :) (I have a MicroBrute) For those who consider a modular rack, but don't want the investment, this PolyBrute is next best, or better choice.
Not totally sure where I went while listening to this, but could have hung out there for a long time.
This is my experience with the Cosmos. It just takes me places. My favourite jam tool right now.

Goddamn fine work here. I wonder if there is any solution that would duplicate functionality of Cosmos on software side. I'd love to give an ambient jam a try.

i am a modlar addict but this piece of gear was my fav on the last superbooth. i sat 3 days in a row on it. i don't own one yet, but i need to have it....no matter what. do you konw if their newer batch has the rythmic firmware on it??!! or do you stlll need to download it?? beautiful piece of music as always my man!!!

Yeah, great patch! (Added a bunch of reverb, of course.) Ribbon got bonked by a stand! First time I've had it happen, too.

Just the standard firmware it ships with.
