Actually, I don’t know why more people don’t insulate interior walls. Especially in a mobile home. Sound really travels. Insulation keeps that to a minimum . Great job!

If you're concerned about Noise, insulation in the walls is the beginning. Hollow core doors transmit sound like a megaphone. Solid core doors make a world of difference. From where I'm sitting, the laundry is 6' away. Yet when the door is closed, I hardly notice the noise.

When I built my house, every wall was insulated, inside walls an outside, cuts down on noise....

    • @deblong56
      @deblong56 4 года назад +5

Nancy -- I agree! If a child is ill (for example) and needs to be heard, doors can be opened, etc. I spent many a night under the crib or next to the bed on the floor. BUT it is impossible to add insulation when it is kids havin' fun!

Insulation is not for keeping noise out...................................it's to keep your butt from freezing or burning up, according to the weather! Geeze people.

This is just a dry run for you building your dream home when the time comes. You did great. Check out RUclips -RedPoppy Ranch. He bought 40 Acres in Southwest Idaho. He built his off-grid home for his family of 5or6 by hand by himself, right now he is building a massive workshop for himself. The weather he had to contend with is dramatically different, massive snow and long winters. But he did a great build, I think you might enjoy seeing his journey.

My hubby has been spending the past few months helping our son and his new wife remodel their house on a homestead. Bedrooms, bath and now kitchen. Cabinets are amazing. We've put in raised beds and seedlings have taken off. Just waiting to finish kitchen and floors to get moved in. Then its chickens, pigs and goats to do more clearing. We will move out to the other side of the duplex after the tenant moves next year. I'm getting so excited. I live vicariously watching Ben and Meg and the boys. I raised two boys myself. Loved the adventure. Next chapter starting.

My husband is away for work for more than half the year and i always feel i cant do projects without my handy dude around and i end up giving up entirely. But you've learnt how to farm, build a house, raise kids, butcher animals, preserve food, build stuff, engineer solutions....just because you want it, you learn how. Thanks, I've built my own raised beds, dug holes the size of swimming pools and chopped down trees, just because I had an idea and wanted it done. You taught me to just jump in and do it!

You guys keep the farm chores, gardening, etc. in tiptop shape, on top of the precious little spare time you have you're working away on your house! All that hard work shows, and each day you all get closer and closer to moving in!! Not only will that insulation in the walls help keep down noise, but it'll help keep it warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. It'll sure help cut down on your power bill! Many years ago when my son was about 11 (39 now) a friend and her son, my son and another boy went for a camp trip in a national forest camp ground. The boys all had their bikes and a potato gun. We had make a deal with the boys that when we got out of the camp ground we would stop off in open prairie and let the potatoes fly. 👍🏼 So, one day my friend and I went for a litte hike and the boys were riding bikes and holding down the fort/camp. When we got back to camp a ranger was there and all 3 boys were lined up sitting on a log with heads down oh oh faces. Aparently they couldn't wait and the Mom's were gone so blasted a couple of potatoes agaisnt trees. And aparently a potaoe gun is considered a weapon which is not allowed in National forest. A chargable offense. The ranger was a kind man who probably had children and got it and gave us a sly wink as he, kindly, put the fear of arrest and jail time to the boys. Good times! Fond memories! 😜

Before we did our addition we were checking studs, wiring etc and discovered the back of the house, the bedroom section was totally insulated. It all made sense because if we were in our bedrooms we didn't hear a thing going on outside. One time there had been a rather large, loud party into the see hours across the street and we didn't hear a thing. My bedroom is still in that section and I still love it!

I am all about the mini splits! I am definitely going with that in my next home. The one unit is so inefficient. I wasn’t worried about the electric. You guys have been so conscientious and thoughtful about everything else.

Nice!! Great progress, and thanks for going through your thinking on the wiring situation. I think commenters forget that *you're the one who's there, ON SITE; and every build, every job, has to be fitted and molded INTO the situation that's already in place!* Especially on a remodel job like the one you're doing! So there are always going to be adjustments and balancing of needs vs. what the present (and sometimes, even past) situations were - and are. At any rate; thanks for taking us along, Ben; I feel like you're on schedule and working pretty well towards your goal! Oh; and you're SO right about insulating boys' rooms! That's a no-brainer!!! Looking forward to seeing the progress on this job!

You two are going to look back on this venture and work even one year from now and say "Wow look at how far we have come." You both are setting such an awesome example for your boys and baby to come and to all of us watching and hoping for similar results in our ventures into homesteading. Many blessings to you! I've been watching since California and it's been awesome seeing your progress.

Seeing the framong completed must give you a reference point to be able to reflect back and think just how far you've come when the end was only a fantasy. Are you ow able to.get a glimpse of the end in sight yet?
You are the perfect example of showing those who have a dream hoping and waiting to happen. Dreams happen after a lot of hard work and perseverance. Rarely do they ever happen by a stroke of magic.
    Great Job !

Love your show and never miss an episode. Please be careful when you install the gypsom bords where the doors are, if the screws you use here are to long they will scratch your door when it slides. I think you are doing an awsome job with the mobile home the farm and your lovely family

It looks great Ben. After Hurricane Katrina flooded my home, we upgraded to copper wiring. Friends came over to help with the sheetrock. I had fiberglass coated sheetrock put in because of the danger of MOLD. I had a bunch of Sharpie pens on hand for them to write Bible verses on the inside facing side. It was a blessing. You might want the boys to do something like that before the sheetrock is put up. Sending love from South Louisiana.

I am so excited for you if I could do flips I would! Everything is looking so so good and it is a hugeeeeeee job. It's going to be so so nice! I can only imagine how you are all feeling! Actually I know as I have experienced the same! So happy for you .............. Meg is just smiles all over the place! So cute! I am praying you can get inside before baby comes but I know how schedules can go and the animals to tend to, not to mention the gardens etc. It will be so nice, I am just so proud of you two and what you are accomplishing, and on your own homestead! You are both so so talented and that is a huge blessing .......... as much as you didn't like working all those hours at the "old job" the knowledge of all of it and your talents put together have given you the ability to adapt and look what you are doing now! So so so proud and happy for you both! Prayers coming your way and best of everything!
    Blessings

Your helper is doing a great job! Always there to be company, hand you what you need when you're up a ladder, just doing anything he can to help in any way you need. Your home is shaping up nicely! I absolutely agree on the insulation to lower the boys' noise. I have two boys... they are young adults... they STILL need to insulated against their noise! It's also good to insulate against kitchen noise. Basically, I think everyone should be insulating interior walls because insulation does more than keep the heat and cold out!

Love what you've done to your place. How cool on the air conditioning. I'm excited to watch you install the splits. I've had my eye on them at Lowes....and I keep dropping hints to hubby about doing this for our place. This way you're heating/cooling the zones exactly the way you want instead of one temperature for the entire house.
    Happy Father's Day Ben!!!
