Thanks for the recap. Firo has 2 classical chess weaknesses in my non-expert opinion: 1) Openings are not principled enough, especially when playing black. It is not uncommon to see him slightly on the back foot before move 20. 2) he is so desperate to unbalance his opponent that he takes unnecessary risks when he should be a bit more conservative (especially with black). Whereas this may work in blitz where short calculation and intuition are of the essence, supreme (non-tired) deep calculators like Magnus and Fabi outcalculate him in the classical format. He is then often left holding on desperately to scrape a draw from an inferior position. Nonetheless, I hope he will fix these issues in the next few years. If he manages to do that, and if he doesn't become too distracted by a fashion career, he will be nigh unbeatable.
I definitely think he has improved with the second issue. His opponents keep playing ultra safe trying to get him to overreach. He still does, but is becoming more disciplined I think.
The problem with the SuperBet tournament is that each player you see as an opponent gets white or black, and you don't see him again in the normal set of rounds. Duda played white, and he won against Alireza. They should double the tournament to 18 games, or cut down the number of players. Round 9 should be interesting, with Caruana either leaving the field behind, or losing to Rapport. Lots of possibilities on May 15.
I would love the idea of extending the number of games to 18 where by each player would had the chance of playing both colors on the board with a same opponent.❤❤❤❤
I think he had just had multiple ways of winning at that point and he wanted to weaken black's king with h5. Also, he probably wanted to make sure black could not create a kingside fortress.
Exiting game, very instructive endgame. 😮
Such a brilliant player, a breath of fresh air and optimism for the future

I agree - he is getting better at it. And very exciting to watch
The Colle system. I nice simple game of chess lol. Always good analysis.
Unfortunately, yesterday he was taken down by Duda😢
Second? I Saw It in candidate tournament.... 😂😂
Rat 2793 Alireza🔥
The next candidate is Caruana
Caruana is definitely a more mature player at the moment and I wouldn't bet against him.
Karuana is past
Great commentary thank you doggy
And then there was Duda??
Indeed, Firouzja is a risk taker for sure. He is still number 2 on the love ratings after the Duda game though.

9:13 Why Firo not take the pawn right away?
