Incredible swim! Katie continues to prove why she's the distance queen with such consistent dominance over the last decade. Remember, she first won GOLD in the 800m at the 2012 Olympics in London. She has 7 Olympic Gold medals and 19 World Championship Gold medals, the most in history for a female swimmer!
I picture some of the competitors thinking, "Wow, I'm keeping up with Ledecky!" No, you're two or three laps behind her. 10 seconds is huge. Congratulations Katie!
@@bertorrrr Not in the heat of competition. All you know is where people are immediately adjacent to you (anyone outside of lanes 3 and 5 probably had no idea where she was and didn't care).
@@ikepigott Yeah I tried looking for the other swimmers times but couldn't find them. Thanks. I did find that In another race recently she won swimming 22 seconds slower. Do you know if this is due to the difference swimming 25m vs a full 50m in the larger pools?
She's just incredible... It's got to be disheartening to even get in the pool with her...."how many seconds did Katie beat you by? 250m". You know all these other swimmers are fantastic themselves, which just makes Katie Ledecky that much more impressive.
I'm a gymnastics fan. I had a conversation with someone the other day on the topic of "Was gymnastics more or less interesting when Simone won SIX all-around golds in a row?" We settled on MORE interesting because there were kinda 2 simultaneous competitions -- Simone vs. her past self, and everyone else competing for silver and bronze! I imagine it probably feels similar for fans of women's distance swimmers in this era.
I just swim for exercise, and the most I've gotten in one workout is 1000 yards in roughly 30 minutes. Ledecky went more than 50% farther in half the time. That's hard to even wrap my mind around.
Imagine that you are one of the elite swimmers in the world, in the finals against 7 other great swimmers, and then feeling the wake of this incredible athlete! I mean the 2nd place swimmer actually swam a fantastic, but it looked like she had an anchor compared to Katie's pace.
I'm reminded of the story of the four minute mile, when it took just the right conditions - including the 3 strongest runners in the world taking part - and pushing each other forward - for the psychological record to be broken. And here is Katie just doing laps in blissful solitude, as if in the world of her own, lapping the competition left and right. Amazing.
Stunning to see that her closest competitor was 2 laps behind, others 4 or 6 laps back. Just, wow!!!! I wonder whether there will be someone soon who can at least keep up with her . . . What an impressive athlete!
@@brahmburgers Not true. 35 feet would be about 19% greater than the existing world record for the long jump and accomplished in a single jump (over 16% for the javelin improvement). In this race she set the 1500 short course world record by a little over 1% and her other world records are a little over 2% faster than the person with the world record before her (after multiple incremental improvements). She is the most dominant female swimmer ever and certainly agree she is an inspiration to girls everywhere, but she hasn't done anything remotely close to what you are suggesting.
50m pace with 1500m/5000m technics, she opened an other class of competition. incredible is the work behind, which is not only physical or mental. congratulation
Holy smokes! I had a 30' length pool in my backyard & was happy to do 3 sets of 7-8 laps w/rests in between. Wouldn't even think to time it. This is phenomenal.
I just had to see it to believe it. Amazing! The smooth turns gave her a body length on everyone. The rest was God-like stamina driven by her own passion and skill. She likens to another great one-of-a-kind athlete: Secretariat. The world may never see a better.
This is a short course record, which was already lower than ledecky's official world record in the long course pool(50 meters). That record remains the same.
The Brazilian in lane #5 really did not want to get lapped by Ledecky. Looked like she was really giving it her all and did a commendable job fending off the the inevitable "Ledecky Lapping" ...for a while, but once Katie lapped her she faded quickly. Looks like a few girls got lapped a few times.
Es la reina, definitivamente. Esta es la prueba donde demuestra más su dominio, ya que en los 400 ya cedió el primer lugar con Australia, creo que con el ritmo que mantuvo, bien puede ir por el oro en esos 400. Felicidades!
Katie Ledecky turned on Beast Mode soon as she hit the water. She is phenomenal, I’ve never seen anyone better… 👏🏽 👏🏽 👏🏽. I hope she reigns over the pool for a very very long time…
🏊It absolutely amazes me how she dominates her races ! 10 seconds is an eternity in world class race times. World records are usually broken in tenths of a second , this is just incredible.🏊
10 seconds! Folks thats HUGE! 10 SECONDS, KATIE is like watching secretariat in the Belmont. HISTORY i got to see HISTORY, thank you KATIE and AWESOME JOB! Congratulations!🇺🇸
The time she beat it by works out to over 1%, which is the really crazy part. When thinking about the top 1% of athletes in the world it is crazy to think that one of them could be far enough ahead of every other athlete to compete in that event ever. By comparison, you would only have to beat the Women's 100m dash, an event where strategy is no existent because it is just 'sprint', you would have to beat the WR time by over 0.11sec against a record of 10.49sec set in 1988, so no one has beat that time in over 3 decades.
I can’t wait to see Katie Ledecky and Simone biles and Ryan Murphy at the gymnastics events and swimming events at the 2024 summer Olympic Games in Paris France 🇫🇷
